Finding Life Again

I have been battling severe depression and anxiety for seven years. I have tried many different medication combos and all have failed to improve my symptoms. I am undergoing a treatment called electroconvulsive therapy which is a treatment for depression that has a much higher success rate than any antidepressant. For the length of my treatment, I will be keeping a video journal of my progress. Due to the lack of testimonies about ECT on RU-vid, I have decided to share my journal with the community. Thank you for taking the time to check out my channel. I hope you find my videos informative and helpful.

Thank you for your willingness to be open and share your experience for all of 'us'! I went to my dr today and after treating me for 11 years and trying endless combinations of various meds, he finally reached the conclusion that I need to consider ect. I am experiencing feelings I have never felt before and almost feel like I am in shock. I found your videos and I believe it was supposed to happen! You are a blessing to me and I am sure many others as well! Bless You !

Thank you. I have scared of ECT. These videos help me to feel less afraid.

Douglas Bloch There is nothing to fear. I talk to the other patients when I get a ECT. None of them seem like damaged goods to me. Just don't get bi lateral or too frequently. The short term comes back.

I'm considering ECT therapy and your posts have been very helpful in giving me hope and easing some of my fears.

Jenny, I am getting ready to start ECT. I will be vlogging it as well and will publish it. I'm just wanting to thank you for being one of the positive testimonies on RU-vid. I will add my story as well to hopefully shed light on the reality on ECT and get rid of the "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest" stigma that is attached with this treatment. I just found your channel and started at the beginning. I hope things stay positive as I watch the rest of your story unfold. This day gives me hope. Fingers crossed! Thanks for helping lift the veil and also settling my nerves! I will be in touch. All the best!

Hi Betty! Thank you so much for your kind words. It means so much to me. I am so glad that you are going to be vlogging as well! There is definitely a need for more personal testimonies about ECT experiences. You're exactly right; we need to get rid of the negative associations and assumptions about ECT. I am very much looking forward to watching your videos. Please do keep in touch! Best wishes!

I know this was a while ago for you but I can't get over how positive you sound in this video....compared to the last two videos?. Something must be working. That's great news.

So far, it's helped a little bit. My doctor says that it may take several weeks for the full effect to be felt. I will continue to update.

I've seen ECT patients get giddy about their next treatment because of the relief it's given them. This isn't always the case, but keep going and lets see what Friday does for you. Shoe shopping? Well, of course!! Shop therapy is almost as good as shock therapy! Kudo's!!

Hi Jenny! First thank you for doing these videos. I'm thinking of having ECT as well. I have found these videos really helpful/inspiring. I haven't made it all the way through them yet so I apologize if you have already answered this but I wanted to ask you if you have history of depression in your family or if you experienced any trauma as a child?

I had this in the 80's 10 times in 84 and again in 86, at the time the shock was probably 10 times as strong , I think there should be class action law suit at least those of my time as it has damaged most I remember from this time is permanent, Don't get me wrong they have made improvements since my time and I believe it could now actually help.

I'm most likely going to be starting ECT soon after 15 years of depression, and I have a quick question. Are you able to drive yourself after treatments, or do you need someone else with you due to the meds and procedure?
@douggbloch

+Sasha Rabinowitz You need someone to drive you to the treatment and back.
