It could have been so good....but everything went cheap...I don't understand why they didn't design this around an enclosure since that is certainly needed. The location of that USB drive is really bad. You're correct - a machine this big will want big nozzles and some big flow rate. It's too bad they didn't consult with someone like Slice Engineering to put a Mosquito Magnum in there or the like. It'll be neat to see what the community mods this thing into.
@colinmetzger6755
@colinmetzger6755 3 месяца назад
It would certainly have been a good idea to have that as an upgrade package. Even at 2.5k it's very cheap for what it is, though that also opens up so many issues. It would also have been really nice to get an option for a powder coated welded steel frame. Could have opened up the potential for speed quite a bit. For just a bit more cost in shipping

You did not make a mistake by not connecting the filament sensor, the design logic needs to be reversed so that if the filament sensor cabling is not connected, it shows that the filament has run out. This is simple failure, logic design.

Based on my experiences with my RatRig V-Core 3.1 500 I would say having 5k acceleration on this huge printer is very respectable. I don't use more than 5k accel for printing moves on my 500x500x500 printer either. I use 10k for travel moves. Setting it for more seems to lead to occasional missed steps. Elegoo seems to have used a thicker and stiffer gantry for the X-axis than the V-core stock one but that makes it heavier too. So it is a fight between having enough spare torque on the steppers to overcome at least slight drag of the nozzle on imperfect print while at full acceleration on one hand and having stiff enough gantry to avoid forcing the input shaper to modify the acceleration too much on the other hand. I would say Elegoo did a decent job here and got a good compromise for such a huge printer.

Great video. It was very good to see someone having good success with this printer. I always felt it had great potential if Elegoo could get past all the previous issues so many others have had. Even though i dont have room for a printer this big or the money to get it, it would be a lot of fun to print some big items on. Love all your videos and always my goto source for checking on Pros and Cons of printers.

8:05 I wish Elegoo makes the SD card reader more accessible to the bottom or the top of the panel instead of cracking the panel open. 12:02 20,000 mm per second? I would like to see that in action! 14:40 I guess I was expecting more for something at 1mm nozzle. Shows how much I know about 3d printing. 19:07 Is that a Grammy? 17:38 Ah, it's an Oscar. This was a very good and detailed video. The printing quality I think for a huge machine like this should be better. Normally with bigger machines you have enough end room to work with where you can put better tech in and more of it. The quality of the prints should have been able to beat out the rest. Also, curious to why the name change as well

Another great and extremely thorough review. No one does it better and I really like the pros and cons lists you do for all of them. I think Elegoo released this too soon and really made some poor choices for hardware and setup. It should have had a top of the line hotend and there is no way a printer with this large of a print bed should have to be manually adjusted with set screws. That is unbelievable to me with all the other printers being entirely automatic for both the bed and Z offset. At this price point of $2500 there isn't much excuse for that. The components they are using are certainly not top of the line and other than the frame itself, I think the design choices are very lacking. I was so excited when I first heard about this printer and they hype certainly doesn't match the end result. I would never pay this much money for a printer with manual bed and Z offset. I am not an Elegoo hater, and I do like many of their other printers and their Rapid series filament is awesome.

A kit that would allow stackable heated bed, would make it incredibly productive, and if the process was automated, it is a contender for larger volume orders on a print farm. One printer that could take care of a single order is less logistically challenging on the print end....

Why no mains powered beds? Also 30 cubic millimetres per second is pretty bad if it doesn’t increase with really large nozzles. That’s something I’d change in the settings to see how far you can push it. 60W is pretty small too, considering a 70W heater will fit in a normal V6 heater, let alone something like a volcano.

@oleurgast730
@oleurgast730 3 месяца назад
Actually, I think they should slow down heating of the bed. At least for 115V. Going near the limit of the power you can get from one line isn`t great. Alternativly they should use 3 phases to connect the printer to an outlet for ovens. At my home (in Germany, so 230V) renovating my kitchen I actually used a Perilex plug for my oven (Perilex is a 3-phase+neutral+ground connector for 3*16 Amps, esp for ovens) to be prepared for the future. Even it means to buy takeout food for a few days on a big print, this might be better than to overload your electrical system. For 1mm nozzles: Imho there is one function missing on all modern slicers: Different layerheight for outer layers. Why isn´t it possible to use 0.6mm layerheight for a print, but with printing outer layer first with a layerhight of 0.2mm for theese (so the printer would print 3 outer layers on top of each other, with 0.2mm laayerheight each, than the inside of the object with 0.6mm). This would increase the printing time only for the outside perimeter. But as you only can see the outside layer afterwards anyway, this should improve the quality by a lot. Combine this with variable layerhight to get more detail at the top, and you would get great results with only modare increased printing time. Also this printer definitly needs a toolchanger. Not (only) for multimaterial, but for different nozzle sizes. If - for example - you print a landscape, print the bottom with a big nozzle, but change the nozzle if you go upwards for more details. For the design of the printer: It should be more modular. The base, the top, left, right and back side should be made as seperate parts with each having a few thumbscrews (and of course plugs) to connect them together. So you could assemble and disassemble the printer in maybe 20 minutes (+calibrating after assembly). A printer this size does not fit through normal doors.
