ur actually a legend, dont know why but making an octatrack tutorial more incomprehensible and chaotic makes it more understandable. The extreme use cases of showing how ur doing p locks is just a moment of "oh yeah u can just do that" and the flex track thing never made sense to me before seeing it now. even if its mad its still the most artistic and straightforward octa tutorial anyone could find. I guess u can say cheers for making the octatrack more user friendly

Oh I am so glad to hear this! I really don't try to make things impossible to understand, though it could certainly be argued that I have a little too much fun making these... BUT I am generally trying to get the point across that I don't really have any sort of "work flow" with these boxes. I really just sort of do stuff and see what happens. Again, really glad you were able to at least get a little bit of something from this!

The most original and inspirational Elektron vids. Thanks for another great one man! 🤟The cross fader is one of the most powerful sections of the Octa! You’ll love it. Get those scenes glitchin!😎

Thank you so much! Glad you’re enjoying. Yeah the slider is so much fun to play around with. I was just messing around because I generally don’t perform. I’m mostly into sequencing stuff. So I’ll use it scenes with the arranger from time to time. Otherwise I mostly use to resample sample mangling and stuff haha. Thanks again for watching!

@@userfriendlysounds Awesome man! Love the octa! Recently picked up a Syntakt as I fought off the GAS when it was released due to having all the other elektrons haha. But man I’m happy I have it now. I do love the OG “Machine” structure in the Digi form and the FX block is super powerful. 🤟 pretty ultimate groovebox!

@@digitalghostmusic Yeah it's truly a fantastic synth. I was kinda hard on it at first. Seemed stale to me. But like any Elektron box, the longer I've had it, the more I'm blown away by it.

I have octatrack a few days and it seem so cumbersom because i am used to syntakt tap tap tap and i have made thing but i am on a high high fence to return octa track and use money to get some other box think digitakt since new firmware or digitone or A4... Maybe more useful to me. I am lost. Am I coward? Should I lob fists at the door of the cult of octa or is it really all hinged on that damned fader vs digitakt? It does sound dank which ppl complain but I think i like the character... I just don't know. I would sleep with it under my pillow to help me decide but that would require the further commitment of a decksaver. It never ends, when you give a mouse a cookie, or a man that has gave himself an octatrack.

This is tricky. On the one hand, a few days is not a long time at all to study the octatrack. It is very strange and takes time and a lot of work to wrap your head around. On the one hand, if you really like Syntakt, that means you like the Elektron workflow. So in some sense, you should like octatrack. But it will take a long time for you to like it. Here is my advice. Return the octatrack. But don't say "goodbye" to it. Say "I'll see you later" Use that money to grab a digitakt or digitone or both. Either one will compliment the syntakt REALLY well. I don't recommend going A4 or AR if you KNOW you like the Syntakt. I would build on that workflow. Overtime you will will start to really understand the Elektron workflow and you may find yourself wanting to do certain things that those boxes don't allow. Then you will know WHY you want an Octatrack. That will make it easier to learn because you'll be trying to make Octatrack do specific things. That's what's really important with it. You have to KNOW what you want to do....most of the time anyway. Or maybe you will find yourself very happy with the Takt family! In that case you won't need to do anything! If you decide you want to keep the octatrack and really study it, I would suggest that you pick something particular you want to do. Don't try and use it for everything it is capable of. Just pick one thing. I think the best thing to start with is using it as effect box. Take you syntakt, plug it into A/B on the octa. Select a Thru machine and select tracks A B. No just play around with sequencing different effects. Once you are comfortable with that, try adding a Neighbor track and add more effects. Basically, you have to take the octatrack in pieces to learn it at all. The bottom line is that none of the elektrons are able to replace the other. They are all so different and have many strengths and weaknesses. Octatrack is probably the most powerful of them all, but it is also the most difficult. I hope this helps!

@@userfriendlysounds A huge help, thank you. Very good advice. I've actually been messing with the effects after watching your video. I was able to sync the syntakt and make some scenes and such without much issue. A foot in the door. Getting the syntakt hooked up on a thru makes me feel like I'm not completely lost, lol... And I set up my phone on c+d to listen to tutorials, kind of hilarious... I think I'm gonna keep it and learn bit by bit like you said. You're right though about knowing what you want to do, that's one of the big mental blocks. I was playing with the demos with one big long "duuuuh..." in my head, lol... Also I've been into synths and sequencing, sampling and things you can do with samples is pretty new to me. I think my goal rn is to sample a syntakt pattern track for track and see what havoc I can wreak with that. This video was really good, now that I got something basic accomplished I feel like I can build on that. I have an angle of attack now, lol.. Thanks for your help.
