You can't really compare Divi with Elementor because the target audience is different. There is some overlapping, but Divi is essentially built for developers while Elementor is target towards DIY users. For example, let's take the pricing. Last year I built 13 websites. I didn't pay a dime for Divi theme nor will my clients because I got the lifetime option years ago, but I would have paid $199 if I chose Elementor and for every next year my clients would have paid $49/year. So for a developer Divi is the clear winner here, while for a new DIY user Elementor might make sense as they need only the basic functions. Or let's take some of the other criteria you had. In terms of interface you prefer the left sidebar. In Divi you can put it left, right or have it as a popup. Just because you don't know how to use it, it doesn't mean it's a clear win for Elementor. Besides, a lot of developers including myself prefer skeleton mode, not visual editor. Elementor doesn't have that at all. Last but not least, you didn't even mention the core features such as Divi library (incl. import/export, global elements etc.) which is why a lot of developers prefer Divi in the first place. You also mentioned Elementor add-ons and 3rd party themes, but you didn't mention any Divi plugins that upgrade its functionality tremendously. I get it, you prefer Elementor while I prefer Divi and that's fine. However, if you make a review then it would be great if you get someone who is advanced Divi user to present its pros. Most of the videos like this are one sided. And I know my comment is pushing Divi, but if I was doing a comparison I would get an expert from both sides to state their case.

Very well said i also noted that in all of his assessment he missed the very basic question that who is using these tools just a DIY guy that is only going to do this one time or a person that does this for a living each day as a Developer/Designer and with that perspective Divi should be the clear winner.

I have built over 50 sites with Elementor and I have used both and quit using Divi because it lacked the features of Elementor. Divi is not for developers more than Elementor. Elementor has over 3 million downloads and is highly popular with developers, like myself. Divi is nowhere near as popular. Divi is slow and clumsy to work with. Elementor has tons of templates and blocks, in fact Envato Elements designed a free plugin for Elementor with well over 100 templates and hundreds of pre-made blocks. Many other themes are available for Elementor with hundreds of templates to choose from like Astra and GeneratePress, to name a few. Divi got left in the dust. Don't know where you got the idea Elementor is for DIY?????

Each time I start with a new website using Divi It is fast but on the end when everything is finished it’s so slow and heavy. Always I have to use wordpress rocket plugin to fix this annoying loading times. It’s like the more you customize the slower it will be because the code it’s too long.
@RickAnderson1
@RickAnderson1 3 года назад
The white elephant in the room is the coding for Divi that makes it a sluggish builder which adversely affects page load speed. for the average site this might not be an issue but for anyone interested in good seo it might be a deal breaker to the more astute technician who has a preoccupation with ttfb. Time to first byte (TTFB) is a measurement used as an indication of the responsiveness of a webserver or other network resource. TTFB measures the duration from the user or client making an HTTP request to the first byte of the page being received by the client's browser.

I think Elementor and Divi are not the same. Elementor is a complete page builder. Divi is a theme with its own page builder. If you use DIVI you are stuck with the theme, if you use Elementor you can choose and need to add a Theme. Elementor has infinite addons and complements from third party developers like Crocoblock so you can fully customize a chosen theme. Divi is almost a close theme with less addons. Elementor is far more superior for me.

So to anyone who genuinely loves building multiple websites for clients, DIVI is the best. Round 1 - Having trained a great number of clients over recent years in how to update their pages I can honestly say that Divi is not intuitive. The mouse-over and hover actions are confusing and slow to use. Most users are not designers. They repeatedly have to ask what each icon means and struggle to edit text. Dragging of margins/padding may seem like a good idea but I often have to fix these. I even have colleagues who regularly forget to save text edits (due to having the text dialog open at the same time as inline editing) and then complain that Divi is bugged. Elementor to me feels faster to use and I love the docked side panel. When training clients Elementor they display much more confidence using the interface and they even remember to save their edits! I have been a long time Divi fan but I see myself using Elementor more and more going forward. Edit: stupid spelling, missing word...

I just bought Divi today and attempted to figure it out on my own and ran into every single frustration you identified. I’m going to watch a tutorial and play around some more, so it will probably get better, but I was shocked that such a graphical UI felt so unintuitive. If it continues to frustrate me I may have to just unhappily pay the annual fee for Elementor. Brizy shows promise but feels a bit immature right now.

For me - it came down to cost because I don't do this as a business (a pipe dream.. maybe) Divi is miles cheaper than Elementor. So it was no contest. Would love to have the option of playing around with both, but *that* I definitely cannot afford. so Divi it is - and there are times when I think ... hmm.. that's getting a bit too fiddly for a builder that purports to be easy as heck. But their support has been brilliant and it is cool.... Thanks for the comparison. Funny how so many YTs stay relevant for long time.

You are forgetting one major issue that Divi has. I am talking about the shortcode mess which means that if you want to switch from Divi to anything else then be prepared to clean up all the shortcode mess it leaves behind. Elementor does not have this issue.
@gmailtammandre
@gmailtammandre 4 года назад
That's not really accurate. Yes, Divi does use shortcodes, but let's stick to the facts here. 1) You can't switch from one builder to another even with Elementor. Take off Elementor and install Beaver builder. None of the content gets magically into Beaver builder modules. You still need to rebuild the site. 2) How many people actually switch page builders, especially if you have Divi? There isn't much you can't do with Divi and every decent developers knows how to write custom code when needed. Even if Elementor has a feature that Divi doesn't then with the next release it's the other way around. Responsible businesses don't switch their builder over 1-2 features that are soon to come. 3) Regarding shortcodes, there are plenty of ways to remove all shortcodes. If you don't know SQL then you can use plugins. I know people keep banging on this shortcode point, but in reality it's not an issue. Besides, most websites use 10+ plugins so sooner or later you will use shortcodes anyway.

The best is to code your website because it's gonna be lighter and you can implement any feature or design you want. No limit. Whith a page builder you are limited to its features and the code is heavier. BUT if you can't or don't want to code or don't have time to learn, Elementor has plenty of features to make great websites and the code is not that heavy, lighter than with Divi anyway. Your can start selling cheap Elementor or Divi websites once you are confortable with them and study the code for a later use if you want. I feel you should have covered page load performance as one additional point of comparison. Neither Divi or Elementor is particularly good at generating optimised page loads, but Divi is by far the worst. Given that Google has announced that page load time will be a future metric for ranking sites in searches, Divi has to be the looser all round. Elementor is definitely the builder of choice for beginners but to recommend a builder that produces bloated and slow loading sites for the more advanced is not sensible. If someone has experience there are other options that might be more challenging but should not present any issues for someone with experience.

It is a good topic to discuss ... but deepening the web is not for everyone, we are not all interested in being experts in this, many are photographers, or designers, illustrators, modelers, publicists ... and being honest many web projects are not It requires you to be an expert, with knowledge of weights and optimization of photos, and correct configuration of hosting will be more than enough for the majority of projects where you are asked for a commercial website ... for a product or for an event or service, I think that with elementor it is more enough not to have to go asking for help from programmers who often have less notion of web design than a graphic designer because they are so focused on their world of programming and custom-made systems that ... I think yes there is a niche for each project ... elementor and wordpress is a great alternative for those who do not want to deepen the programming issue but we do need commercial websites and functional ... optimizing loads is our responsibility.
@marcusadler5082
@marcusadler5082 5 лет назад
@@theredmaster_superbee I agree. "deepening the web" is not the focus of my comment. I have been a code Jockey for literally decades and I avoid it like the plague when setting up websites for clients. Without proper comments and documentation, it is impossible for me to revisit a build let alone have someone else continue work. So, unless there is a specific need for some extra special functionality, deepening the web just doesn't enter into it. So, if you are looking for a page builder that has heaps of free features, free add-ons and won't overly bloat your site (impacting load times) Elementor is my pick. If you want to go deeper (having gained some experience) Divi is not the answer. There are other page builders that are just as feature packed and easy to use as Divi and will produce a much better optimised site without programming/programmers.

When you add the Unlimited Elementor Elements plugin and the Envato Elements plugin Elementor surpasses Divi by a long stretch. The Unlimited Elements plugin has hundreds of predefined elements but more significantly you can create your own elements giving you complete control over what can be customized in each element. The Envato Elements gives you almost 2,000 predesigned pages divided up into 100+ sets and hundreds of additional blocks. While I do like the Divi interface for working with the design sets the Envato plugin wins as a tool to come up with ideas and starting points for custom sites....

I just started using divi but seem to have problems with almost everything that seemed promised and easy in the beginning. For instance: they say you can customize your header/menu background colour for sepparate pages. Yet, when I run through their tutorial for this, the customization options shown in the tutorial are nowhere to be found in the actual divi customizer menu. Also, divi's responsive view to show what your site looks like on a tablet or phone simply does not work at all. Might try out Elementor on my next project but first need to get over the loss of money I invested into purchasing divi.

Divi is okay but you need to know a lot of codes because a bunch of stuff doesn’t work properly and you can only fixed them with codes, Even the google Recaptcha badges doesn’t display without writing codes, too many headaches

Great video. Thanks. I've designed and run websites for all but 20 years: for my own F1 fanzines, for rugby, for friends and just to play with. I used various WYSIWYG software - Zara and WebPlus mainly (let's forget my time with Front Page). I moved onto Wordpress three years ago when Serif were dropping WebPlus. I felt limited to an extent, the themes restricting creativity. Then I discovered Elementor. It was a revolution for me. A friend has Divi and I have played with that, and like it, but the free Elementor does everything I need for my two sites, one selling my books, and the other for a club. There's much more than I need, and I would assume that goes for most people. I create WP sites for friends, and Elementor gives them choice without making it difficult for me. I agree that the multi-page template offering is a big bonus for Divi, but only if you're working for someone else. I love messing with individual pages. Templates are great for starters. As you say, it's not clear cut, but the free Elementor is magic. I've got three plugins for it, all free also. It's great. There's a selection of videos on RU-vid and helpful pages on Facebook. I'm not sure there is a big difference between the two. Elementor's business model is to get people on-board with the freebie and then get their return on investment with the pro version. Divi's is to get them paying right from the start and offer concessions. It would appear Elementor's is working better given the downloads. Both are impressive bits of software, which are so far ahead of Gutenberg that there's no contest.

I think you will change your opinion about Gutenberg in about a year or so. And I'm pretty sure your WordPress websites will be made of Gutenberg blocks in the future. It's the direction WordPress is going. Right now it is very time consuming to figure out which blocks to use, but it is already possible to make a decent website by using Stackable, Ultimate addons for Gutenberg, and some other blocks. I already started to make new websites with Gutenberg blocks exclusively because I wish to avoid the hassle of convering to Gutenberg later on. Btw I remember FrontPage too, and GeoCities :)
@WritewheelUK
@WritewheelUK 4 года назад
@@DeRen179 Thanks for your reply. I take your point. A couple of weeks ago, my club website went down after I added a couple of plugins. My hosting service advised me to delete Elementor, which I did, and everything was lovely. I tried to reinstal Elementor but it refused. I had a number of updates pending so I ran with Gutenberg blocks. Then today there was an upgrade to 5.3 and I was impressed. I've decided to run with Gutenberg for the club site. I've got Atomic and Ultimate Blocks. It's improved no end over the year. My only criticism is the use of the name. Gutenberg revolutionised the world with moveable type. I can't see a modification of website software doing the same.
@DeRen179
@DeRen179 4 года назад
@@WritewheelUK yes a site built by these blocks is also the most lightweight and it is faster than other solutions. It still lacks options but it is doable. Check the plugin "Gutenberg Blocks - Ultimate Addons for Gutenberg" (made by Brainstorm Force -it's the same company that develops the Astra theme). Some beautiful blocks there. Also I'm using a plugin "Editor Full Width Gutenberg" which as name states it enlarges the editor to full width.

I’ve been using X theme which uses Cornerstone as the page builder and I absolutely love it. Super usable and quite similar to Elementor in many ways but you can add dynamic content and header/footer customisation in X. And lifetime price! Really not a fan of Divi though but I know it works for lots of people. Who else has used X and can compare with these?

This may be a little off topic, but I would be interested to know if you’ve had any issues with Elementor. Some people are suggesting that Ad companies may have a harder time placing ads on your site if you are using something like Elementor. It appears some people avoid page builders for their posts. Can you tell me what your experience is with this, and have you ever had an issue with getting ads automatically placed from companies like Ezoic/Adthrive? I’m currently setting up my site with Astra and Elementor, and I’m trying to anticipate any future issue I may encounter. I appreciate any feedback you may be able to offer. 🙂

I don't understand this comment. Are you suggesting using a bunch of additional plugins and templates to work around the free Elementor's missing pieces? That's a huge pain, a lot of work, and makes for a shakier site where one plugin update can mess up a site. Not speaking as an expert, but as a newb who has been learning just how limited Elementor free really is.

Only problem with Elementor is that its not a theme, so when creating custom headers/footers/navbars you might experience some inconvenience such as changing hover effects/colors in different places. Also custom css for html element disappears whenever you reload the page and talking about custom css - in Divi Builder you can set different css for different devices, when in Elementor you'll have to use @media to set up different values for different screens
