I think the elevated line seems reasonable. Not sure on the scale but there's bridges in the US that are elevated for tens of miles. 22 mile bridge over atchafalaya basin on interstate 10 You have the US 1 bridge over to the fl keys chesapeake bay bridge.

You should keep the elevated train line the way it is, because usually, when we have super high speed train corridors, especially the ones where bullet trains run, the whole line is elevated to not cause accidents with say, stray animals on the track. Australia, with abundance in fauna, should have elevated tracks only, for high speed train corridors. Besides that, that stretch is too short for raising and then lowering the line, which would look stupid. Maybe you can keep the tracks on the ground for the line you will make for the East-West train corridor.
