-UPDATE-
2017: The PS4 is a beast now ! I still prefer the elgato since it will allow you to stream through OBS but to each their own. For recording gameplay only they are almost the same now. Make sure to tell me what you think about the ps4 now !!
I did not think about it until after I recorded the video but no Elgato did not sponsor me to make this video. This is how I genuinely feel about their product. The ps4 share function is decent but It cannot compare to the recording quality of the Elgato (or probably any other capture card). Throughout this video I will show you a side by side video (one from the Elgato and the other from the PS4) and then I will display a split-screen view that shows the PS4 video skipping a frame.
Hopefully someone finds this video helpful!!
I made this video entirely based off of observation so I do apologize If I say something that is incorrect. If it seems that I am ignorant about something please comment and correct me down below.

Thanks for the comparison! my qualities werent great but the reason was that i streamed instead of capture with ps4, will keep ps4share for now!

the difference between the two are interesting and that delay on ps4 sharefactory could cause sync issues. its good start but again, youre right. investing on an elgato is a good choice. good vid fam. subbed

I’ve got a great solution for EVERYONE. Create a twitch account, stream your whole gameplay, then when you’re done you can go to your stream video and download it to your PC.

Ps4 share is great for recording gameplay, clips, and livestreams, I use it all the time. It can record up to an hour of gameplay and however long for livestreams on twitch and youtube. The quality might not be the best sometime on clips or livestreams due to your internet connection though.

I just use the share feature. It's simple and gets me decent quality gameplay and that's all I need. I went for a high quality mic over getting an HD 60.

Honestly speaking yes the better approach would be to focus on a quality mic over video when you already have the PS share, I wish I would have mentioned that in the video. However the difference in quality is In fact nice to have, plus you can use the Elgato to record your PC screen too (I'm sure people like using OBS but Elgato works good too)

I do all the time record 60 minuets 1080p with ps4 pro, the quality still awesome, i uploaded to my RU-vid channel and turn out still 1080p and still smooth 60fps. Depends on the game i guess, for example Tomb Raider, i recorded 60 minuets with ps4 pro, edit with sharefactory and uploaded to RU-vid, still 1080p and 60fps, doesnt look like 30fps. Totally smooth and clear.

If I am wanting to record gameplay to edit in Final Cut Pro x, without live-streaming it, would you recommend the PS4 Pro? Right now I use the share option on my PS4 but the quality isn’t as good as I would want it to be

Ps4 records up to an hour. Not 15 mins. You have to change it in settings from 15 to 60. But I have the elgato and enjoy it more. Just fyi about the 15 min thing u said.

HBAReZurk if you have a PlayStation 4 and a computer then I say go with the blue yeti, if you have a really good computer and a mic already I say go with the elgato. Because of the new update done to PS4 this video has become obsolete because now the PS4 is capable of so much more that's why I'd recommend getting the yeti, but even though it can do more, it still can't output at 1080p 60fps like the legato so it's up to you Glad this video was helpful:)

I dont think it will record at 60fps, but then again I have not tested on the ps4 PRO yet. but I can tell you that the standard is no longer 720p 30fps. If im not mistaken they increased how long you can record and the dimensions to 1080p30fps

Ok biggest staple for me is you need a pc for the elgato and not just a good one u have to spen maybe $569 on a decent pc for good results and then u have to wait about 2 to 12 hours for rendering after edits plus the elgato its self is $100 ill stick with my ps4

I stream alot idk if I should buy a PS4 pro cause it can stream at 1080p unlike the slim at 720p or should I get an elgato and a decent laptop or something my internet is pretty good I think 41.80 download speed and 4.75 upload speed it's usually higher but it's the weekend

JayxMonster 101 it sounds cheaper to buy the ps4 pro, but there are benifits to using the elgato, but the ps4 pro is very easy to use

well you gonna need a really really good pc to record at 1080P/60FPS with an ELGATO HD60 anyway and not all ppl have that luxury nad by the way you can record at 60Min with (All)ps4 share and at 1080P/30FPS if you got a PS4 Pro

Original Gaming you're absolutely right, though you want to keep in mind that the video was posted months before the update that allows longer recording and months before the pro was even announced. As for needing a really really good PC, I disagree. My PC has specs from 4-5 years ago which you can build fairly cheaply. I wouldn't recommend it though since it's outdated and can't do very much with new programs coming out.

I know many people who do in fact use the PS4 share option and you're absolutely right, it's not bad at all. I went out if my way to get a capture card but if I didn't I for sure would have used the PS4 share.

El Gato obviously has more quality, but it is more convinient since PS4 Share can be used so easily. El gato you need an extra computer/laptop and many cables to be able to record. Not to mention other settings you have to do for the El Gato.

No. Im a small time beginner youtuber and i know that the ps4 records 720p 30fps. The pro can run 1080p at 30fps however, but the OG and slim ps4 only have 720p 30fps. Im buying a 1080p 60fps capture card soon and i suggest others do the same

I agree with you, but I've had people tell me that the ps4 share is just as good. PS4 share is still a decent method of getting content but can't compare to the Elgato in the long run of things.
