Elgato already has a lineup of products designed specifically for streamers, and now it’s expanding into audio with its Wave line of microphones. Much like everything else it makes, Elgato went out of its way to cater to streamers when it designed the Wave 3...and if you hate distortion when you yell into a mic, you’ll definitely want to check out our video.

I can live with streamers that have graphics issues or webcam problems if the sound is good. Audio is EVERYTHING.

This is a fantastic review - the best I've yet seen on the Wave 3. But it is awfully old. Would you consider doing another review, but include a deeper dive on VSTs and the Wave software?

This seems like a good product. I've been using a Blue Snowball and I was always wondering how to avoid audio clipping without having to be too mindful of how loud I speak. I'll have to look into this mic a bit more.

wave link is only if you want that extra features the mic works without it except the peek filter they use is on by default and can only be turned off with wave link. Other than that you can use it out of the box plug in play if you do not need or want to mess with the dual audio stuff.

I bought it for meetings, I'm tired of poor quality audio. I was in a webinar last week where one of the presenters used a headset plugged in with such poor quality audio I couldn't concentrate. I know it's overkill but it should last me a heck of a long time and my initial tests are showing it is a significant improvement.

I know someone who's dad is known for holding a dynamic handheld mic an inch away and will still cause audio clipping by yelling into it.

I've been streaming on twitch now over 8 years. 9 years...?? I've had my blue yeti for the vast majority of that time period. I ordered a Wave 3 so we will see how it works/sounds in comparison. The software seems awesome and I didn't want to go with a full mixer set up due to cost/space on my desk. So I will see next week and compare for myself and my (small granted) viewer count what people think about how it sounds. Hopefully El Gato can get VSTs added in soon also...

so i use the Hyper X Quadcast S Mic AND it does do that clipping thing and it sucks cause i do yell a lot and it get distorted OR it cuts out. Thank you for this review i might actually get this one for my streams!

When you were recording on the mic for this video, is this true to what the audio sounds like, or did you add filters and gains?

Editor here. I didn't adjust or manipulate the audio from the Wave 3. I did adjust the XLR mic to match the levels of the Wave 3. Ashley recorded her audio directly into Audacity and I synced with her video it in Adobe Premiere. So what you hear is unfiltered or gained audio from the Wave 3.

Too bad it doesn't work with anything. here's what they told me this morning about it not working with their newest capture cards: Regarding capture cards - Only certain devices are supported, ones that use the UVC interface. At this time thats Cam Link 4K and HD60 S+. Other devices wont show up as an available input. We're exploring ways to add our other capture devices as inputs to Wave Link.

I use the Audio-Technica AT2020. I've been using it for a couple of years and really have no need to replace it because it's still a really good microphone.

@@ArcticZombie I've been doing my research and it seems like the best setup is a Samson Q2U and a Behringer U-PHORIA UM2 audio Interface. That's what I've just ordered along with a high quality XLR cable, a shock mount a long with an aluminium external stereo card adaptor for my headphones to ensure that there is no ground loop interference going on. I already have a boom arm from a previous mic. So I think I'm good to go. A dynamic mic like this one suits my situation compared to the condenser that is the at2020. Make sure to find a setup that works for you! Good luck in your findings!

The streaming specific features make this mic an easy recommendation for streamers. As for voice over work, this mic is a great option as well. If you are a streamer first and foremost then this or its younger sibling seems like a great buy. I would wait to purchase it over the holidays as the deals will be great.

Whoa, 😂! I didn't think too much about Elgato microphone (including clip guard). @3:48-@4:04, yikes! I got Blue Snowball & FiFine microphone. After watching this review video, I've to choose which microphone I'll get in the future.
