why hasn't anyone mentioned that the last 5 years of his career has been under TERRIBLE coaching and defense other than the 11-5 year. His defense 4 out of the last 5 years has been statistically in the bottom 10 of the league in all categories. He's also been subject to some of the worst offensive line play the last 5 or 6 years that we've seen in this league. It's atrocious.

Yes i just rewatched that full game. The defense was great with sacks, but they only created 1 turnover. 2nd quarter with 10 seconds left in the half on the 50 yard line. They created no short fields. Eli had to make 80 yard drives to come ahead with the score, twice. Btw they were mostly throws because the running game wasn't going well. Because the defense gave up a TD. His last drive he escaped from 3 defenders who almost had him in the dirt and complete a pass to a player who was double teamed. He managed to get that pass where the defenders couldn't intercept it. The defense did play well but they by no means "carried" Eli.

@nygm984 Год назад
@@denniswilliams1425 First of all, you should try to reply to a post when it is relevant and not 2 years later. Second, you did what most trolls and critics do by using red herring and paper tiger arguments. When a team defeats a favored team - that is a team effort. If the "defense beat" the NEP, they would have scored points, caused a few turnovers or given the offense great field position - they did none of that. They were great at point prevention. Eli was equally great by putting up near Top 10 numbers against the 4th ranked defense (while leading the offense that won the time of possession) and leading a last-minute GWD. In 2011, the NEP defense ranked 15th in points allowed (you failed to mention that) and 31st in yards. Also, you failed to mention that prior to the SB, they held their 2 PO opponents to 30 points (those teams combined to average 21.5 points per game during the season). Don't bother with a reply - I'll ignore it.

Stop just reading headlines. The defense carried him through both post seasons. Top 10 stats? He's only top 10 because he threw A LOT. His average pass is actually very poor when compared to other QBs that he competed against. Guys like Tannehill, Mayfield, Cutler, and Bulger, guys that no one would say are HoF worthy have mostly better stats than Eli. He was lucky twice. Be happy. But, he'll never be worthy of the HoF.
@citizenghosttown
@citizenghosttown 2 года назад
@@tomknapp6194 Still at this? You can keep saying that the defense carried him but they sure didn't carry him in 2011. Defense isn't the reason why Manning still holds the all time passing record for a postseason. And defense isn't the reason why Manning is behind only Brady and Elway for most postseason comebacks of all time. Luck? Nobody is that lucky. That's clutch. Sure he threw a lot. But LOTS of QBs throw a lot. And plenty do it with more talent than Eli had. (Matt Ryan for one). But they don't win Super Bowls. When guys like Tannehill and Mayfield can accomplish what Eli's accomplished over his career, they'll be considered for the HOF too.

@tomknapp6194 2 года назад
Absolutely NOT! If you read headlines, it sounds like he had some fantastic games. Until you actually watch the games and look at the stats of him and the opposing QB. In 2007 against Dallas, GB, and NE as well as in 2011 against GB and NE, Eli wins games against QBs having one of their worst games (if not the actual worst) of the year. Also, Eli never beat a single team in the playoffs that scored more than 20 points. Some things that headline readers don't realize: 2 SB wins carried by a defense that shut down opposing QBs that generally had fantastic regular seasons. In most of those games, he still needed a lucky play to pull out the win. In 16 years, he had a top 10 passer rating ONCE. And that was 7th. Also in 16 years, he never led in completions, completion percentage, yards, yards/attempt, TDs, TD percentage, or the passer rating (as just mentioned). But, did lead in interceptions x3. In fact, his most common stats to be in the top ten were attempts and interceptions. He barely ever lead any of those in his own 4 team division. 2011 is supposed to be his best year. Let's look at him and Romo: Eli 359/589, 61%, 4933, 29 TDs, TD % 4.9, 16 ints, 92.9 passer rating Romo 346/522, 66.3%, 4184 yards, 31 TDs, TD % 5.9,10 Ints, 102.5 passer rating Eli basically threw 67 more times (about 2 games worth) for 10 more completions, 2 fewer TDs and 6 more ints. Out of all that, Eli had more attempts and yards. That's it. And that was his best year. 4x pro bowl. For 16 years? That's supposed to be good? 0x all pro. Not even 2nd string. 0x League MVP, you know, for an entire season and not just for one game that the defense truly won for him Not even a single MVP vote. Top 10 yards and TD? That is a result of longevity, not actually being good. His TD percentage (TDs per 100 attempts) puts him at 72nd all time and his yards/attempt is at 91st. Tied with either QBs that didn't play in the same pass friendly league or would never be considered for the HoF. Andy Dalton, Jay Cutler, Marc Bulger, Chad Pennington, and Ryan Tannehill are all examples of QBs that had better percentages and career passer ratings than Eli. Which ones out of that group are you going to put in the HoF? And how did "Mr. Clutch" do in those other "SB runs"? Let's summarize: 4 postseasons, 4 games, 4 losses, 3 crushing defeats, 1 shutout, a combined 3 TDs (less than 1 per game), 7 ints (almost 2 per game), 1 game over 169 yards, and a 54 passer rating. He had a passer rating of 111 when throwing to OBJ Jr. To everyone else he had a 79 passer rating. Never missed a game due to injury, but was benched twice for consistent non-performance. This is just getting started. He was lucky, but he just wasn't that good. Seriously, Tony Romo was a much better QB who carried his team. Eli? He was just kind of along for the ride shedding blame because of 2 lucky wins.

Little late here but I think it’s important to look at the teams he was on. He was never surrounded by another HOF caliber offensive player like many QBs in the hall. I agree that stopping that undefeated season is an integral part of the NFL story and a quarterback leading his team to a championship twice is also quite a feat. It is often said that quarterbacks are given too much credit and too much blame and nothing could be more true. Top 10 all time in yards and tds p, scored on the last drive while the giants d gave up the lead in both super bowls, had a bottom half defense in both championship runs and the giants were never a great team without him.

If youre only argument for putting someone into the HoF is who they beat on two games then Nick Foles should be in the HoF too. And what happened to the people that say winning is a team stat when it comes to downplaying Brady's accomplishments? Eli Manning has led the league in INTs 3 separate times. There was never a point in his career when Eli was considered the best or even top 5 at his position. He will get in, but only because he beat the Patriots. If he beat any other team this wouldnt be a discussion.

eli is top 10 in completions, touchdowns, and passing yards if that along with the 2 superbowls the 2 superbowl mvps and 4x pro bowl isnt hof worthy then i dont know what is
@Ashar121
@Ashar121 4 года назад
@@degonedrebaker5579 I mean, he did play a long time and didnt miss any games. So his stats are mostly longevity. Im also not saying he sucks. He was good to very good at times. But that, in my eyes, isn't what the Hall of Fame should be. That's just me

Hall of Fame is all about what makes you a famed icon in the NFL. Those super bowl runs and his all time career numbers speak for themselves. You can't tell the story of the NFL without Eli.

@@Ashar121 not every QB in the HoF is as good as Montana... and I don't get why he should be penalized for beating the greatest HC/QB combo in NFL history... he beat them both twice, that SHOULD mean something. Not only did he beat them, like Nick said in the video, he beat the Bucs back when they had a great D in Tampa, the 13-3, 13 pro bowlers Cowboys in Dallas, Favre at Lambeau in 0 degrees temps, and then the 18-0 Pats! That's an absurd run... Then you add the '12 run, his top 10 stats and never missing a game to injury, he's a shoo-in

Eli is a nice guy but his whole career was average. So you don't know when to say it was time for him to retire. Only lasted this long because he was in NY. I thought those Super Bowls appearances were lucky myself. He's not like his brother or dad and that's ok. He's not a Hall of Famer.

Lucky SB appearances??? That does not make any sense! Eli is 7th all-time in passing. CLEARLY above average
@dsales2011
@dsales2011 4 года назад
@@abc_12333 Eli should've retired years ago. Cut it out. I laugh at 7th all time passing. He's still hasn't had a history of getting to Superbowls and winning or even showing up in big games. He LED the league in interceptions at least 4 times and is below .500 in wins vs loses overall for his career.

@@dsales2011 Why do you "laugh at 7th all time passing"`??? What could be better than that? No " history of getting to Superbowls and winning or even showing up in big games" ??? How long have you been watching football??? Eli won Superbowl 42 and 46. SB 42 was the BIGGEST game ever because it was against the best team! The Patriots were 18-0. Your comments do not make any sense. Eli is top 20 all-time in 6 categories: 7th in passing TDs and yards 19th in passing yards per game Top 5 in Superbowl MVPs 1st in most passing yards in a single post season! 1st in a Superbowl win with the lowest ranked defense (25th) 2nd in consecutive games played (never missed a game due to injury) Eli is a Hall of Famer.

@@abc_12333 bet I've been watching football longer than you with that Mickey Mouse name. Eli benefited from receivers like OBJ and Plexico Burress.That's the only reason he looked remotely good at one point. How many years has it been that he's looked mediocre?
