The HDI transducer will give you downscan and chirp sonar. The total scan will give you both of those as well as side scan Sonar

The biggest reason to upgrade would be to get a unit that has more networking abilities or live sonar

+Bruno Walkowiak The Elite Ti is the best of those units. I'd go with the 73sv as a close second. If it was touchscreen it would be a lot better

Thank you, I'm somewhat confused how insight genesis works, I am really interested in mapping my local lakes, is it free to use like garmin's quick draw? Does chirp only work on structure scan or does it work on sideview + downview or only structure scan? Is the HD7 gen 2 a significant upgrade for the money or unnecessary? +Bruno Walkowiak Yes Insight Genesis is free right now from Lowrance. I think it's usually like $99/year. So you go out record, upload to the internet, then they notify you in a few hours when your mail is ready to download. I've done it all year on my lake and it's very easy. The good part about it is you get bottom hardness and vegetation layers that you and put on the map. The plus to quick draw is that there is no uploading. You get it live on the water as you record. I think the Garmin has chirp on their side and down. Lowrance does not. Chirp is only on the traditional fish finder. But in the Elite Ti you can't use chirp fish finder and SideScan at the same time. They unit has to be on 200kHz when using SideScan. The Gen 2 will give you the Ethernet port so you can network with other units easier. But you'll lose the wifi and chirp. And the Gen 2 will be slower than the Ti. I'd go for the Elite Ti over the Gen2.

The Elite Ti models can only do a 3 panel split.

Touch the negative terminal of the battery or put the transducer in the water and it'll work.

+Jim Strunk I would go with the elite ti over the Helix. The touch screen and much easier to use menu is why. Also the RAM mounts available for the To are much nicer than the Helix so on a kayak where space is limited the Ti is a better choice in my opinion

I just go into the menu under System and then look for Simulator and in there you can turn it on. Make sure you leave demo mode off though

+Jeremy Logsdon The built in GPS will tell you where you are. If you want detailed mapping you need a card. Lowrance bundles these units with a Navionics+ card which covers North America. That is the one to get.

+Dave Fields All the Elite Ti units have the same software in them. So it depends on which transducer you get that will determine what you see. In this case this was a DownScan unit but if I bought a TotalScan transducer it would plug right in as the unit already had those features. In the simulator mode the unit acts as a TotalScan model where you can view all the features.

Yeah that is normal if you have it set to "heading up" and are moving a slow speed or not moving at all. You can change the trail update rate to auto, and that will help, but the accuracy will go down. Or you can add a Point 1 heading sensor to the network which will then keep your heading true all the time regardless.

That's correct. If it does happen in North Up there is another problem.

Yes. You will need Lowrance's 7 pin transducer to 9 pin unit adapter and Minn Kota's 7 pin Blue Lowrance US2 adapter. The in the Installation menu set the unit transducer selection to Generic 82/200

Its excellent. Go with the DownScan version as the TotalScan will be hard to mount on the trolling motor

Lawren Wetzel perfect, because the boat I want to order has the elite ti 7 but charge an arm and an leg to upgrade to gen 3 hds...7k vs buying my own kit and installing would cost only 3.5k and the transducer was my worry since I was hesitant drilling another set of holes and removing the old one and plugging them. with what you said, I would simply just plug in the new hds and use the same transducers that came with elite ti correct (assuming they are the 2016 and newer model)?

You can, however you will not be able to share sonar chart data. Only the digital depth number will share over NMEA2000

@@InDepthSonar yet literally all of the nmea 2000 lowrance accessories are not compatible. Right down to the lowrance fuel consumption line

You can use the DownScan on the Elite 7 CHIRP as long as you have the HDI Skimmer transducer plugged in.

I mean can I use my same HDI transducer that came with my elite 7 chirp which does down and chirp/traditional sonar on the Ti with the adapter.You confused me when you say "if not interested in down scan or side scan"..also, I just sent my second elite 7 chirp back due to screen freeze.Others complain of this.Someone said to upgrade to the Ti not the Hook which is the same as the elite series.Any thoughts?

Sorry I understand better now. Yes with this adapter cable 000-13313-001 you can use your HDI Skimmer 7 pin transducer on the 9 pin Elite Ti unit. I wouldn't go to the Hook because you'll lose the NMEA 2000 port. I would upgrade to the Elite 7 Ti if they offer you that on their 5 Year Advantage Program

I do not need the NMEA 2000.The Ti seems like too much machine for me on my 14' jon boat and have read bad things about those too.thanks

Press the power button quickly and then select Edit OVerlay. You can add or change the overlay data in there to select whatever you want. You'll have to do that for each screen.

The unit is set up to allow you to swipe out of the box (in fact I don't think you have the option to turn it off). It can be tricky at first but you almost press it for a second while you swipe. On the 7, 9, and 12 Ti units its usually not a problem but on a 5 Ti I have had trouble with it because the menu is so small. If you can't figure it out let me know what software version you are using and I can check into it. Maybe they changed something on the newer software. Glad you liked the videos. The Ti is one of the best units Lowrance has ever made! Great features and reasonable price.

Thanks Lawren, I will give it another try tonight. If I can't get it to work I will post the software version - I really appreciate your help. I am very impressed with what I have seen with my 7 Ti and on top of all the features is the ability to make my own maps - Hydrographic maps of small lakes here in Canada are very poor quality so this is a big bonus to me. I am very anxious to get out on the water - my biggest frustration right now is that the lakes are still covered in 3 feet of ice. :-(

Lawren, The 7 Ti is working fine - the problem was with the operator :-) I was trying to swipe from the edge of the menu to avoid pressing the "button" and was activating the cursor on the main screen. After watching your video more closely I realized that you were touching/swiping on the menu itself. Works great now. Thanks for the support! Have a great season! Hank

+Rob L. Yes the transducer needs to be in the water to create a ground. I just ran a short wire from the neg terminal of the battery and touched it to create a ground that way. Thanks for the kind words

+Lawren Wetzel you saved my day. I just bought the unit and me and the guy at the shop drove ourselves crazy trying to understand what was wrong after trying and having the issue on different units. Lowrance told us it was the power supply not delivering enough power...we tried with different power sources and still the same issue...touchscreen freezing...I tried your solution it immediately worked...Thanks again for your knowledge and keep up the good videos.

+Lawren Wetzel I have a small table with metal feet, I just put the wire on it and it seems to work fine. Better than holding the wire between my toes...My GF gave me the weird look
