Elite: Dangerous | How To Setup VoiceAttack With An API  

UPDATE: If you were struggling with the link to EliteVA that is now fixed and should be working (shoutout to Somfic for reaching out to me on that) Also, I am not actively maintaining this project anymore. You are still free to use the project and this video is still relevant for it, but I will not be updating the project any further from the point represented in this video. (Reason being that I have stepped away from ED as a whole and am onto different projects and do not have the bandwidth to maintain this one)

Hey awesome video. Even works now in 2022. That said I wanted to bring up 3 things: 1. For any players watching this now and trying to get it set up: just remember that the latest EliteVA zip folder contains more files than the 3 he got in the video. The process is ultimately the same, you're just extracting all the files, not just the 3 he mentioned. Still using the same folder and everything. 2: ED has gone through some updates since this video too, and the Odyssey expansion also dropped so a lot of people may see a different menu. Instead of being able to load the binding file for everything at once like he did, you'll need to go to general, ship, and SRV commands and load it in each of those. (Idk if this binding is a good idea for Odyssey's on-foot controls, but I always use KB+M for that anyway.) It should still work at the end though, at least it did for me. 3. This is mainly for the uploader: the only command that seems to be giving me trouble is going in and out of supercruise. If I'm already in supercruise, it doesn't matter if I say "Toggle f s d" or "Drop out" or "leave supercruise" it still just charges the FSD to jump to the next system en route instead of dropping me out. The gamepad bindings are way different than I'm used to so I have no idea what I would do to drop out of supercruise manually. Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise, great job on the video. The other commands seem to work like a charm and I've been trying to figure VA out for months.

SERIOUSLY... I have nearly every HCS Voicepack and in 30 seconds your API gave me more information than I could get in the years I've been using them. If you found, perhaps, a more 'pleasant' voice you'd rocket to the top!

So, in order to make a reliable "target subsystem" command we can use the ShipTargetedEvent's Subsystem property? Does that event fire also on cycling through subsystems, or do we have to somehow keep retargeting the enemy to fire that event? Does Elite remember the subsystems we cycled through previously for that to even work?

Thank you very much CMDR. I installed and all appear in order and I can hear outputs except it won't recognise my inputs even though it shows both Elite & VA are the only two apps using the microphone. Any ideas?

Hi.Such a great video and i have followed your steps and have everything installed. ( i had to copy all the elite va files over to bindings, but that was the only difference). Voice attack tells me what is going on but only responds to a couple of commands-how far can we jump bring the main one. There is no response to anything else. I think i have done something stupid, but i would really appreciate any help. Thanks alot

does this have any sort of commands that will give you info from inara or even use the information from inara? for example if i need a mat trader for raw mats could i ask the AI to target nearest system with a raw material trader?

Hi great video, I'm having an issue at the profile import stage. The file is not showing up. I had this issue when I tried to import an arma profile as well. Do you know what the problem may be?

i use VA for horizons and was wondering if there is a command to repair srv sythensis? sometimes you can be falling off a cliff in the srv and be taking damage and just thought a quick command could save time to sythensis a repair... i actually can say the command but it only opens the side panel and kind of scrolls around then says its complete but it really doesnt do anything. perhaps its a timed issue, like each step needs a certain time because its a multi step command. i think i seen something similiar when doing the request docking command? thanks

Firstly thank you for this. I have not tried it but this is what should have been in the game from the start. I just wanted to check, have you managed to get someone with a HOTAS to help you? I use one and would love to help if I can, if no one has yet.

This is a very well structured video. Brilliant work. I have a question though, that I hope you can answer - will this work (completely or partially) with HCS Voicepacks? Ive used HCS since I got VA - but you include some other things that I either haven't found within HCS or dont exist within HCS.

back when i used VA you could set a different voice rather than the basic robo voice in this video. Is this still possible or no ?

have you made a hotas bindings for the game as i use both keyboard and hotas including a controller for the odyssey version for walking etc and other using weapons etc i have liked and subscribed as there not many out there that has a update for voice attack or its bindings

Hey mate, I'm not sure if you're still around, but if you are... Most of the commands do not work on my end, I'm getting messages along the lines of "[x] variable not set" (x being stuff like EliteAPI . LandingGearToggle, IncreaseEnginesPower etc). I'm on Odyssey. Got any hints for me?

I have my profile setup to use my hotas, but also have most of my key bindings on my keyboard to run off of my stream deck. would this still work for voice attack?

The link for EliteVA seems to be dead. Is there an updated link out there? I saw the .vap file in the Goggle Docs drive, is that enough or do i need the .INI file and the mapping folder as well?

Hello! I've followed this guide up to activating EliteAPI in VoiceAttack. It appears that it's stuck on "Plguin 'EliteVA' initialized and is not moving beyond this point. The processes that have occurred are: Starting EliteAPI, Processing Journal, Applying EliteVA bindings, and then EliteVA initialized.

hey is this out of date now from the new patch? I have tried getting it to work but all the commands are missing shows 301 commands but only shows DO NOTHING (IGNORE COMMAND) I have managed to solve my issue I needed to add the new file profile Elite-VA-espanol-profile to voiceattck profile and everything works great now looking forward to the updates.

Can you set a button to toggle the system listening? I don't want my ship engaging frame shift if I talk about friendship. 😅 I'm assuming you don't HAVE to have the system talk back?

Is there any way to still use this now that the download link isn't working as it shows in the video? I spent a long time watching the video and I was excited about using EliteVA.

Looks fantastic, I've been playing on PS5 for a year love Elie Dangerous, first played it in 1984 on a 48 k spectrum. Wanted to play Odyssey so bought a new gaming laptop as its now confirmed not coming to console. Would love to use Voice attack as to many keys for me. Out of practice with Windows as been on a Mac for the last 10 years, followed all the instructions to the letter and checked many times cannot get it to work. Took it to a mate who is proficient with Windows who double checked but to no avail we cannot get it to work. Has something changed I'm not aware of maybe?

Cannot access the somfic site for the three files including the dll. It times out on page load every time in two separate browsers tried.

Could you perhaps advise how to solve problem with messeage "11:03:12.541 Key press by variable [EliteAPI.SystemMapOpen] not set. No keys pressed."? Happanes on all commands that simulates keybinds.

So far so good. I got to the point where I am trying to load Elite VA but the home page looks different (Discord enhanced) menu does not show folders with EliteVA.vap, Mapping and EliteVA.dll. Instead when I unzip the file it is a list of stuff - a long list of .dlls. Am I missing something? Or is everything there and I just have to cut and paste the lot into VA? In the end I created the folders in VA and put the vap into vap folder, the dlls in the dll folder. It shows everything enabled in VA messaging so cross your fingers and I'm going to take it out for a spin.

Okay, so I decided to delete my previous messages and write a new one as the troubles I was having did not actually come from this VoiceAttack profile as I first thought. It turns out that if you have a USB hub that turns one USB port into 4 USB ports then you cannot plug both your X56 throttle and your X56 flight stick into the same HUB. It kind of goes haywire and starts sending off all kinds of signals. In game it is annoying as hell as it is like there is a ghost randomly bushing buttons and dials in your cockpit.

The Elite VA webpage isn't working. I am enjoying the V1. Works wonderfully.

I cant get the elite va site to pop up. it says it isnt there.

Can anyone help me with the silent running command? If I say "go quiet" it will engage silent running, but if I say "go loud" the API will speak and say it's disabled but doesn't actually turn it off in game. Any Help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hey I have a logitech x56 hotas I don't have a Twitter so what would it take to get ahold of you to make a profile for it?

I only use a HOTAS for any and all flight games. Who can I now use one of your profiles if I only intent to use the HOTAS for flight?

as far as I know I followed the tutorial to a T but Voiceattack doesn't recognize the EliteVA plugins Can someone please tell me if i'm being dumb, I got elite dangerous and voiceattack just to control a ship with my voice.

Have you tested with Odyssey much yet? I just installed it today it seemed to be working fine but I am getting some weird behavior where some voice commands just bring up the pause menu. I'm using the controller binding.

i am unable to get your profile to work i have the curent verion of the elite api and you bindingf but it can not seem comunicate with elite in horizon or odyssey For exampe cargo cpasity says unknown variable

hello the api initializes when i boot the game voice attack talks to me but it doesnt recognize any key presses

I am having a slight problem. I am getting no readings on my fuel status, cargo capicity, jump range,or station info. When I ask for jump range i hear, "Jump range is ." I have tried installingeveryt4hinng 3 times and followed the steps listed in the video all three s and I still get the same responces. Everything else works however.

I have VoiceAttack *v1.10.6* on Steam. I am running into problems. Question: Does this work with Odyssey? Also get a version conflict when installing the *.vap file. Also noticed that my "Actions" in the profile for all commands are empty, ed: Do nothing (ignore command)

Is this compatible with HCS Voice packs for Voice Attack? If not, how do I uninstall - just remove the files and restart?

Hello there, i've done everything according to the guide. All the status updates work as it should but it doesn't do any keybind. I keep getting the message {10:27:15.876 Key press by variable [EliteAPI.SetSpeedZero] not set. No keys pressed.} Is this something on my end? Keyboard setting is on united-states international. Great video and easy to setup; however, for some reason it doesn't seem to work with virtual reality. I can't only get it to work when using flatscreen. Any ideas what might be going on there?

So I tryed to do This for the Steam Download version of my Voice attack, I am sure I got it in the Right place, But Voice Attack is not detecting anything on the Elite VA part where you make a new Elite VA folder, not sure what I am doing wrong, The Voice Attack folders is not in my Windows x86 its in a steam folder. I tried to fellow it, but its at that point I am stuck

Not sure if anyone still gives answers here but after installing the eliteVA plugin, dropping it into the the APP foulder and running VoiceAttack the only 3 messages that pop up are: Plugin support enabled. [EliteAPI] Connecting to EliteAPI Hub ... Plugin 'EliteVA' initialized. That's it. EliteAPI does not seem to be installing, for all commands that require a key press print out the following: Key press by variable [EliteAPI.LandingGearToggle] not set. No keys pressed. (and messages of similar caliber.)

How altered is the keyboard profile? I use a HOTAS but if I just use that profile should it still work or were many keys changed? Edit: The answer is the API needs to have a keyboard command connected to it. So for example, if you have your x55 profile on, turn on lights aint gonna do nothing. But, if you go into keybinds and bind it to whatever you want, it will work. So the quick way is when you find something not binded, just quickly go in and throw a keyboard bind to it. Luckily with HOTAS, there are very few keyboard binds there so really its not hard to find an empty key (and it doesnt matter what key)!

The Elite VA link appears to be non functional. The google folder link contains a .vap file but I see no Mappings file or .dll file
