Thank you for taking the time to do this video, very helpful and if any of you have an HMD ( VR ) ..... this program is an absolute must and improves immersion while eliminating the blind man fondling of your keyboard as your getting pooned in outer space in a game like Elite Dangerous !!
Good informative video mate. I have been using Voice Attack (VA) for ages now with ED and other games. I recently got back into Microsoft Flight Simulator X, so i created my own profile for that too. Got my wife to record a voice pack to work with it too, so when i say "Gear Up" i have the wife's voice telling me to stop playing and get the car cleaned....lol....no not really its recorded to say Gears Up, like a copilot.
thanks for this tutorial, i have the latest edition, i had no idea what the heck i was supposed to do, but thanks to your video, was able to get ets 2 up and running with voice commands, and man its so much easier than having to continuously use the keyboard for certain keys!

Thanks for another great video, sir. Ive been using this with E:D for a while now. Brilliant piece of software. Never fails to impress me with how good it is at understanding your commands and executing them flawlessly. If I ever have a problem with a particular verbal command, I go into Windows Speech Recognition and teach it to recognise that particular word and it's sorted. I imagine this is an absolute godsend to VR users who cant see their keyboards while playing.
@AdoredTV I finally just bought Elite Dangerous and VoiceAttack a couple of days ago. Got a headset today, did a search for ED with VA, and yours was the second video in the list. Doesn't get any better than that! I've got an old Saitek X45 HOTAS and a Logitech G13 Keypad that I'm using. The G13 is a bit of a pain, since I have to remove my hand from the throttle and look at my cheat sheet while using it. I plan to get an Oculus soon, which is why I got VA. I like what I see from others who play ED with VA. Lets one focus on really flying the ship, instead of fumbling around with keys and running through menus, when the shit hits the fan!. Many thanks, TBH I find the Scottish accent really pleasant. and a really consise clear video. I used to have some customers I dealt with in Cambuslang in a distribution centre for I.T. Support in B&Q, I used to get them to say "Theres been a Murder Sir (re Taggart) or Curly Whirly" what am I like??? 🙈 Re Voice Attack really great value for money, please support the dev and buy it.
One of my favorite VA macros I call "engage". If I decide to submit to an interdiction as soon as I drop into normal space I give the command and VA: puts max power to weapons, opens my hard points, targets the nearest ship, and finally sets my throttle at 50% (for best maneuvering). I can really get the jump on the NPC that interdicted me with that one. It seems to take the NPC a while to get into action.
+Riverboat Been planning something like that for a while but never got around to it. I have stuff like "end salvage" though which puts away weapons and my cargo scoop then starts jump drive though. I think I was planning on one that targeted the cargo hatch too...
G'day M8.. great vids champion.. Please help.. with the send commands to.. option' (active window.. or add your own target?) if its add your own target for elite .. do you just type elite... or is there a more accurate path that's needed?
Thanks for the vid. How did you train Voice Attack to understand your commands? I tried the voice recognition applet in windows still having trouble for VA to understand my accent.
First class presentation of how to use Voice Attack. I got it yesterday and have been looking around for a tutorial to learn its programming from. I am looking to set it up with DCS A10C and whilst a different programme to ED the methodology is well explained with both demonstration and explanation. Your video is going to be by my side when I start setting VA up. I imagine that it will work fine on other games containing a matrix for keystroke mapping/editting such as IL2 and Silent Hunter 5. BTW, what part of Scotland do you hail from???
@@adoredtv Ayrshire. Where my Mum was born, I thought the accent was familiar and I was guessing the west side. Do you recall the Gaiety Theatre Ayr, well my Grandmother, her parents owned that place or ran it after the first big fire in 1903. Always planned to go there to Mums birthplace but never have so far. Well anyway, thanks for this very useful instruction guide. Its going to get well used. Have you ever thought of doing an advanced useage version.

Hi. Can anyone help? I followed your instructions- though, it seems there have been a few updates since you uploaded this vid. I keep getting, "sound initialization timeout" (x3) followed by Error accessing sound file". Any thoughts?
You can just set up a command for voice attack to listen or stop listening. The mic still works, and it still hears it. By telling it not to listen you are just saying "don't do commands"

Here's a horror story. I recently decided to start experimenting with using a game pad for ED because i'm developing carpal tunnel issues using the mouse so much. A HOTAS would not work for me because I travel a lot and play ED on a laptop. Well, the first time I changed a key action on my game pad ED created a new custom commands file, which deleted all of my previous key binds. All of my keyboard key binds that Voice Attack uses were lost. Argggggg! I've got to go back and rebuild my Voice Attack profile.
+Riverboat small tip, when your in ED and using VA then ensure you have your ED keybinds set to default if your going to use the HCS Voice Packs. and i would recommend those, some of them are amazing. I have the ASTRA (default) voice pack and LEO voice pack recorded by Norman Lovett (the computer from Red Dwarf). chuffing amazing, much better than the normal ED default voice.
+Tony Austin Yes and no. I've decided to leave most of my key binds as default when I use voice attack because, well, why change them? That way if you accidentally loose your custom key binds (like I did), it's less work to set them up again. So far as voice packs go, I'm glad you are enjoying yours, but I find the ship talking to me pretty annoying and the last thing in the world I would want to do is have it yammering at me even more.
Lovely that you wife is willing to do that for you. Mine would throw something at me and tell me to stop playing video games so much if I asked her to do it! LOL!
Here's a brain teaser for you. In ED, and other programs, when you want to interact with other players you have to open a text window and then take you hands off your controls and start typing away. It's an awful way to communicate in a game, of course. Voice Attack can open the text window. Can you think of a way to turn on windows speech recognition and then pass the text to speech to your chat window? That would be the holy grail of voice control for me. Just can't quite figure out if it can be done or not.
+Riverboat Sorry jim if im butting in, but i think not. Voice attack (VA) recognises commands not speech to text. although you can set it up to write words via spelling, you have to set up the commands so when you say "a" it will press the "a" button, when you say "b" it will press the "b" button etc, so if you want to go to Lave you say "Galaxy Map" then in the box where you would normally type lave you ensure it is selected then say "l" "a" "v" "e" and it should type it for you. or if you go there often you can setup a command to type the whole word out, saying "lave" will result in VA typing LAVE for you. Now i have shown you how voice attack works this way, hopefully you can see that speech to text wont work the way you want it too, unless you want to create the whole oxford dictionary of word commands then it will, but i bet you it will take a little while to create those commands.
+Tony Austin Yes, obviously true, however not what I was trying to suggest. Voice attack uses Windows native voice recognition to listen to you but Windows also has a voice to text dictation tool. I'm trying to figure out a macro that would open the texting window and then turn on the windows voice to text feature so windows would type the text for you. Then turn off voice to text. Hmm.. Just seems there must be a way.
+Riverboat I've been looking into this a bit because of YT's hilariously bad attempts at figuring out what I'm saying in most videos...I'll check it out further - I didn't actually realise that there was a Windows voice to text. It'll be doable though it might need a couple of programs.
+Riverboat I have to say that while chatting to jognt last night it was pretty hard to do with a HOTAS and large mic in front of me, so something like this would really be the holy grail yeah.
