A movement to tax non-profits in a city mired in poverty has hit an obstacle: The richest institutions claim they already pay enough. Subscribe to our page and support our work at therealnews.com/donate.
Desiigner And they arent even real J-s. Frauds. The Bible in Revelation 2:9 and 3:9 calls them J-s who say they are J-s but are not, but are of the Synagogue of Satan.
A country or Governments that allows this does NOT deserve to exist... This is Government by and for the 0.01% Plutocrats dressed up as non-profits. What a damn abomination... and it doesn't matter WHO is in Government because they are BOTH for sale to the Plutocrats
The rich control humanity so if you want to make the biggest impact sadly you will have to find a way to become wealthy yourself. Not enough wealthy people in the world so there’s only so much one man can do
@Brother Jake's Konservative Evolution says a guy who doesn't understand dirt pay creates poverty. It's systemically designed that way and built on the whims and desires of people who owned other people I might add. Let that sink in. Conceived in inequity. Not difficult to predict the outcome won't be worth having. Unsustainable, violent...and all not possible without ignorance, which it sorely depends upon.
It's not printing money that created inequality. Inequality existed when world was using money backed by gold. Capitalism creates inequality even in situations where it can be mitigated.
@@LEO-xo9cz I used to give to Childreach and United Way etc, until I saw the salaries, I have come to realize take care of those around you directly, it's the best way.
The small mom and pop non profits would not be viable like rescues and sanctuaries. Having experience with those myself, they really barely have enough to cover cost as it is so I disagree. Even small half way houses for battered women or the homeless, or any soup kitchen just make it by the skin of their teeth. All those would not survive and each community needs their services. Be well :)
@@HalfB Good point Cynthia. I hang with a roving soup kitchen supporting the homeless in Tokyo. Rather than non-profit, it depends on altruistic behavior by volunteers who realize that helping others is also self-therapy for the volunteers.
Either tax all organizations, or none. When the government picks winners and losers, people always lose. "Organizations" have more power than private individuals and do way more damage.
We need to stop choosing the poorest CITIZENS or the programs that serve them and put the cause in the spotlight ... the ROOT PROBLEM OF WEALTH HOARDING!!!
No, I can see a case for not taxing organisations that are TRUE non-proits and serve a public good and I'm happy to see them untaxed. Many could not exist as businesses. But I take your point that the system seems broken.
If the capitalist class wants to survive, they'd do well to start making space for meaningful reforms that benefit the lower classes. Of course that won't happen. Power concedes nothing without a demand, and the plutocracy's sense of entitlement and invulnerability, their utter disconnection and lack of concern for those they rule over is too complete. That's why they're working to build a police state. History repeats itself.
When they say "let them eat cake" we say "It's Bastille Day!" what's going on in Russia against Putin is a good example of society fighting back. We put our guns away in favor of laws so we must USE THEM or keep suffering the consequences.
Janet Baker Janet you are right on! Since the act of 1871 that turned the country into a corporation, the Jews have gained control over us and now people are not able to get rid of the Fed! And their illegal IRS bit bull collection agency. I am a Jew and have great shame for what my people have done to the world through out history. Taxation is theft of our wealth!

#1 A Ponzi game should not be tethered to any person's access to needs. 2) It was built on greed and inequity, not need. And the outcome is a no brainier. Look at the world.
This was very eye opening. The people in the impoverished communities aren't aware that their wealthy neighbors aren't paying taxes and using their tax dollars
I am so glad that I discovered this channel. You guys are the only news source I know that is incorporating class struggle and inequality into your reporting. I am so grateful that you all are speaking truth to power.
So as far as the nurses, has Hopkins brought in foreign nurses for lower pay? Kaiser did this out here in San Diego County, CA, where I currently live. They brought in foreign-Filipino nurses, got rid of full-time workers (nurses, etc.), & brought in more part-time. I used to go to Kaiser & i noticed these changes when I would go to my evening appointments. One of the workers told me they had "re-organized" & changed their employment system, where they put more of them on a part-time status. This started in the mid 2000s.
This is the backbone of the Elite's plan to break American prosperity, bring in cheap foreign labor and put American's out of a job. This is an ongoing event which has been happening for several decades. It's not enough that business has every advantage as far as taxes and market manipulation, they also want to cut their labor costs while breaking the back of working American's!!!
Jobs are not the answer. The idea that everyone must work all of the time worldwide is the single biggest driver of climate change. Add to that the hideous greed of conservatism and you have a recipe for disaster.
Nursing Homes did that crap to #ADOS in the 70s - 90s. They imported tons of foreigners from the Caribbean nations and paid them cheap wages. That's why nursing home care is so crappy today. So, what goes around, comes back around -- now wypipo are getting their turn "in the barrel."
@Captain Maxwell and you're why we're stuck in the system. you can't even imagine living life without this system. he's pointing out that this system shouldn't be what it is an you're sitting here talking within the confines of the system refusing to think outside of it. and in this case it doesn't take any effort as someone literally said "we shouldn't have to depend on money to survive" and honestly, yes, currency is at this point where we are producing at post-scarcity levels a bit primitive.
This shit happenin in Cleveland......minimum 1000$ a month for new apartments yet you have busted ass homes and buildings right next door.....and these apartment buildings are going up faster and faster.....where are all these people who can pay for this???
So John Hopkins controls Baltimore? Hmm. I'm originally from Baltimore (city/county). After graduating from Morgan (1988-1993), I went into the army. I remember when Hopkins took over the old baseball stadium, Memorial Stadium, I don't know, or something like it......it's been a while. I remember back then, the running joke was that Hopkins was going to take over/run Baltimore City. Back then, Hopkins had a 24 hrs computer lab; i used to use it when our computer lab at Morgan (business dept) closed down at 12am. I thought that was pretty cool then. But now, wow. Baltimore better be careful & reign this organization in because if it is up to Hopkins they will appoint their "mayor" or "city manager" to run the city making the whole Baltimore City council, mayor's office obsolete. We are moving closer to having corporations strictly run our "government" making our present day politicians, government agencies, legislation branches, judicial branches, & executive branches obsolete, invalid, null, & void institutions. It's coming, if not already here.
Absolutely true. An even larger and scarier example of the corporatization of the Government is the US military. The military has grown so large and compartmentalized it is the most inefficient, money consuming dragon that our forefathers could not even imagine. The agency heads are all corporate elites whose sole purpose is to build up the military even more which inevitably requires a"boogieman" for an adversary. We have now it seems put al Qaeda to bed and are resurrecting the old Russian bear as our new enemy. In addition, China is also a new adversary, after the west industrialized China for the past 40 years. The globalists are the commies of old. Not so hard to figure out.
You mention Morgan State College. How is it that Johns Hopkins has become such an economic driver in Baltimore while Morgan State remains in the background? I grew up in Harlem. Columbia University has been part of the fabric of Harlem before Harlem was Harlem. The City College of New York (CCNY) has been part of the community's fabric for several generations as well. Hunter College now has its School of Social Work in Harlem. What is no longer in Harlem or in existence period is Malcolm-King College. It folded 40+ years ago. What do we need to do to make institutions that are supposed to serve us become stronger? How do we make institutions that are supposed to serve us be accountable to us? If Johns Hopkins is such a behemoth of an institution, what should people do to curb its power? How can Morgan State re-position itself? How can grassroots movements influence these institutions and those who hold public offices?
First and foremost. In nevada las vegas. Mayor goodman has made it I'llegal to be homeless in that city. Or be charged 1000.00 They dont have that. They need help. They are going to do just that. Jail them for beeing poor and homeless. Sad just fukking sad. So yeah it Is driven by greed. With no substance.

This is what I been screaming for years. Education should be free for American citizens. If they can do health care they can do education. The United States shoots themselves in the foot by not supporting their citizens the way they should.
@@charonsferryold Nixon took us off the gold standard. So, banks were given unlimited amount of money by the Fed at an interest rate that continuously compounds and creates more debt--creating a financial bubble. That pushes down the value of the dollar. So, the dollar is worth like 3 cents from when it was worth 100 cents. And, the lack of schools creates more demand, so they raise prices. So, students are forced to borrow to afford to go to those remaining schools. So, if the government paid for tuition, then, there would be more schools--because, more people would be able to pay and less would go to just paying interest. So, it was basically, the Fed and poor leadership at the top that created this mess for future generations. If they don't pay for tuition, there will be an education collapse in this country.
@FloAnn Gordon You're racist. So, you focus on race. You should be an economist and focus on the economy--and, who's in charge of the economy. One's real, the other one isn't. Right now, you're basically a slave to the 1% because you're allowing your mind to be controlled by them with divisive propaganda.
@@MichaelAPoynter It's too late to stop the collapse of our education system. As I've said, unaffordable tuitions have created a society that outright fears colleges and would rather get vocational training or get right to work. The question of "should college be free" should not be considered a subject of debate. At this point, the debate should be over how to rescue student loan victims.
Churches, especially prosperity gospel and evangelical megachurches that have political pull need to start paying taxes. The reason they don't pay taxes is they are not allowed to be active in politics...yet they are constantly pushing right wing political agendas. Its time to make these people pay their fare share.
@@biggmixxo yes, the rich just hoard their money! Ever have an extra bit set aside? Ever notice that the more you make, the more you spend? Yeah, that....
Then there would be no Military to protect our Citizens. Taxes fund schools- government workers salaries- Infrastructure- etc. Taxes are the life blood of our economy.
Our society has become too complex, it is extremely difficult for anyone including institutions to keep up with societal justice, easier to just hold the excess and pay cops to protect it.
uh? a few blocks from the white house? which direction, head west and you pass through GWU then Georgetown.. very high income areas.. head east and you'll be met with more downtown dc (expensive AF) then eventually Noma which is now gentrified completely. heck I'm working a few blocks away from the white house.. All of NW DC is basically gentrified. SE DC across the river and NE DC tend to be "the hood" but those areas are starting to get gentrified too. If you wanna see 3rd world poverty. check out Alabama. Mobile, Alabama. See how black folks living there. omg you wouldn't believe it.
Yes tax all institutions, including churches (and I am a Catholic)... When any institution is tax-free, clever legal minds move in to exploit the tax advantage, it's just the way life works, an advantage is exploited. Just tax all moneymaking enterprises.
If you tax everything it will never end because the government never has enough money. They will tax businesses to Extinction and the United States will end up like Rome. Then everyone will not have a job
Churches? What about all Chemical plants especially in Louisiana that make a billion Dollars a day and pay practically 0 taxes. Leaving Louisiana without money For education, city services, Low teacher pay, police, nurses. Louisiana has highest Illiteracy rate in USA. Talk about corporate greed. Louisiana compared to Texas Relating to chemical plants. In Texas these oil and gas Producing plants pay higher Taxes and highways, schools, Education for its citizens Are so much better than Louisiana.
Unfortunately, this is all too common. In Detroit we have billionaire Dan Gilbert buying up distressed properties in the downtown area (so many properties that the local media is now referring to Downtown Detroit as "Gilbertville") yet in order to build the brand new Little Caesar's Arena, Gilbert secured a huge tax break in exchange for a promise to invest in the surrounding neighborhoods. Well, Dan has his LCA and the affluent can take in events there but the surrounding neighborhoods are still languishing in distress. Our previous governor, Rick Snyder courted Foxconn enticing them with a $10Bn over 10 years tax break to come build an iPhone factory in Grand rapids (which fell through and Foxconn went elsewhere, most likely due to our decrepit infrastructure here). At some point the politicians have to see that giving away future tax revenue to the wealthy is a bad idea and eventually the bills will still come due! We all must pay our fair share, from the uber wealthy to the impoverished (true charities like Churches or Soup Kitchens should get a tax break though). By the way, the Foxconn deal would've brought thousands of jobs but they would've only paid slightly above the state's minimum wage - a rotten, lousy deal for the state's residents. As a society, we are incentivizing community failures with public money. Over 70% of Michigan's bridges are structurally deficient. People have died waiting for an ambulance to come, not because of a shortage of ambulance services, but because they had to be rerouted around bridges that have been closed for safety reasons! But hey, c'mon downtown (Detroit) and take in a Redwings game or a concert at Dan's latest money maker (if you can afford the ticket price)!
Are you saying that Dan should not have received any tax breaks for his high-risk investments in downtown? Do you believe that the city would have been better off the way it was before?
@@illumiNOTme326 dan gilbertstein was part of the mortgage crisis , sold & rebought one co. at a 5th of his selling cost. There he now cuts off downtown streets at will for private employee parks.
Distressed property stays distressed until someone invests in it, correct? Distressed property also sells for less, so there's no reason to get such long tax breaks. Perhaps for the short term to gain some momentum.

He also believes in the "absolute authority of the scripture," baptism by immersion, and evangelism. Hagee publicly has stated that he believes the Bible commands Christians to support the State of Israel and the Jewish people. > Not too smart either and of course a science denier. In 2007, Hagee stated that he does not believe in global warming, and he also said that he sees the Kyoto Protocol as a conspiracy aimed at manipulating the U.S. economy. Also, Hagee has condemned the Evangelical Climate Initiative, an initiative "signed by 86 evangelical leaders acknowledging the seriousness of global warming and pledging to press for legislation to limit carbon dioxide emissions." I'm reading the comments and I'm realizing every statement you all have said is correct and added to the depletion of Baltimore and many cities like it. I am learning the homeless problem is growing more and more. It is like they are trying to push the weaker people, financially weak that is to the edge and plan on letting them die off. It is sad we are all people with many of the same needs. Where is the compassion over the greed. I have never been a greedy person who takes more than I need to survive. There should be plenty for all. This is mad shameful.
Underground, maybe. To the Moon. To Mars. Private islands. Sprawling gated compounds in the most scenic areas of the world. Sounds like science fiction but I wouldn't be surprised if some of oligarchs were considering genocide against the poor and people of color. They seem to consider the rest of us as dead weight and are steadily pricing us out of everything.
Thanks for reporting on this. I live in Las Vegas, one thing you learn after a while is that the famous Vegas Strip is not in Las Vegas, it's in Paradise. Paradise was zoned to provide a tax shelter for the big casinos, resulting in crumbling infrastructure and the worst schools in the nation. If you walk a mile from the Strip in any direction you are surrounded by poverty and homelessness yet the casino executives are worth hundreds of millions of dollars (if not billions). The rich create their own socialist institutions when they buy off our government it's time to take it back and make them work for us.
Honolulu is a prime example. Our politicians sold out to luxury developers. There are luxury apartments multi million dollars opulent apartments.Right across the street are tent cities of homeless and overflowing sewage. Hawaii has one of the worst roads in the country. The airport is an embarrassment and has not been updated in decades. Our zoo , which used to be clean and kept up, now is dirty and depressing. We have terrible public schools.
Some non profits are Legitimate! Some non profits are bogus fronts! Some humans are Legitimate! Some humans are bogus fronts! The problem is it takes copious amounts of time and energy and most importantly the desire to investigate and expose these corrupt individuals.
If they are exempt from taxes they are exempt from services....when it catches on fire, let it burn. Raise taxes on doctors and JH employees...there are many options, politicians lie to the public and say there is nothing they can do.

a lot of the large ones are pretty much just tax shelters for the wealthy. there are a lot of small non-profits that work hard and actually do serve the communities they're in. But a community shouldn't be dependent upon non-profits. they should be able to have a way to support their institutions which creates an ecosystem for growth..
Can someone please help me? I have been asking this question for years and I havnt gotten a answer yet. I thought a large percentage of the lottery was suppose to go to schools what happened?
What I heard about lottery funds is they put those in the general fund. So it all doesn't necessarily go towards the school. I don't know how true that is but that's what I heard.
In Maryland the casino money ended up being a wash. It simply replaced existing funding that had been diverted elsewhere, so it certainly did not increase funding to education
