I had this game on the spectrum 48k when i was a kid. Absolutely blew my mind. Had to use a special lens which came with the game, which you put onto your tv screen to discipher a code to unlock the game. A primitive form of antipiracy i guess. Those were the days, and my God they were incredible.

Even as a child, I wanted to play "Elite" on my ZX Spectrum 48K, but my knowledge of English and the mechanics of the game itself was not enough, so I still want to do it, before I die... ;-)

I had a Speccy, but fortunately one of my friends had a BBC Micro and the two of us would play Elite for hours on end. Thanks for bringing back the wonderful memories!

Just had to look up the storyteller song. Wow! Hadn't seen that intro since I was a nipper. Somehow still knew the words even though I couldn't remember what it was from. Loved the 🦊.

I seem to remember a cheat on the zx where you lined up the space station jumped and ended up in the destination station. God I loved this game.

One of my most memorable moments in gaming was in Elite on my Amstrad. Battle with the Thargoid and the destruction of over 30 Viper police ships near a Coriolis station. I don't know about other formats but the Amstrad versions mining laser was unbelievably powerful.

I still have a working (although I've not tried it for a few months) BBC Master 128 and Elite on 5 1/4" disk. I also had the Archimedes version back in the day which was great because it was basically the same original game but with the (filled-in) graphics and responsiveness you always wanted.

I had a copied version on the C64 and had no idea how to play it - could start up, fly around a little - didn't really understand why it was so good until I played Frontier on the Amiga
