Ellen Pompeo will return for more episodes of "Grey’s Anatomy" in season 21. Pompeo, who has portrayed Dr. Meredith Grey since 2005, will appear in at least seven episodes. She will also continue as the primary narrator. Pompeo had reduced her role in recent seasons, appearing in eight episodes of season 19 and only four in season 20 due to writers and actors strikes. She shifted from a series regular to a recurring role after committing to a Hulu limited series, "Natalia."
Despite her reduced screen time, Pompeo's Meredith remained integral to the show's narrative, returning for key episodes and continuing as the voiceover. In season 20, Meredith and Nick had a happy ending, planning to settle outside Boston. Series creator Shonda Rhimes and the show's team have always kept the door open for Pompeo's return, emphasizing her importance to the series. Rhimes, though no longer showrunner, remains involved in key decisions.
