Song brings me to tears all the time’ this is my first favorite song as a child’ remember singing to it while on long drives with my dad and siblings.. ❤️
Kelly actually probably wrote this song, it was one of the four songs that he singled out as ones he wrote/co-wrote when he sued Jeff Lynne in 1983 over songwriting credits. Of the four (Strange Magic, Mr Blue Sky, Sweet is the Night, and Midnight Blue) I’d say that Midnight Blue is the one that he probably wrote the most of. It’s very similar to Kelly’s own writing style
As spectacular as Lynne's current road tour is, there are certain songs that don't come off quite as well in the absence of Kelly Groucutt, like Shine a Little Light.
What a line up. You've basically got ELO, here....with the exception of Lynne. for gosh sake‘s, the bass player and the drummer and (one of the) string and choir arrangers for their golden period. Yow!
I met Kelly groucutt after a orchestra show, it was the last tour he would do he died later that year😢 he was a really nice down to earth guy he was happy to talk and have photos with me he even let me go onto the tour bus and ask for Eric Troyers autograph
It reminds me of a time as a younger man when I wanted to get intimate in the dark hours of the night( midnight Blue) we all know what it means and in the song it somehow never happened. there is an opportunity for love that reseeds when the dawn breaks. I think this sums up the song at one level at least. Never mind the passion the songs beautiful for all that.
