My uncle had a conversation about this song with me many years ago while I was in high school. Stranger was one of his favorite songs. He just had a stroke last week and it's heartbreaking seeing him how he is now. Everytime I hear this song now, I think of him.

What can you you say about Jeff Lynne? He is an absolute musical genius.He is a truly gifted man.He probably should have been the 5th Beatle.I remember growing up in the mid to late 70's,and I was raised on ELO's music.They inspired me so much ,I got into Orchestra in 6th grade,and learned violin.My brother got into band(trombone),because of his influence with Chicago,whom was also big at that time as well.I know your a long way from El Paso,Texas Jeff,but your music has a big following down here.Thank you for all those wonderful years of great music and memories,you made growing up listening to ELO in the 70's a lot easier!! We love you Jeff!!!!

Jeff Lynne ... One of the most underrated artists. In 2014 he will receive his star on the walk of fame in L.A. I wish I had 10 % of his talent. This song makes a bad day sunny, and calls mr. blue sky with little floating white clouds.:) May his music be eternal! In my mind, this song, 1983, and Alan Parson’s “You Can’t Take It With You,” 1978, sound very, very similar. I hear it the most in the vocal melody. As a musician, to me, it sounds blatant. I mean, I doubt it’s a coincidence. Thank you from Cincinnati.

This song and album as a whole paints such a complex yet ambiguous picture, as many of Jeff's songs do, they are so universal. This song could be about a million different people in a million different lifetimes and would fit perfectly.

One of the great songs of this great album. Funny how rock and roll is king was the single. Secret messages and Bluebird also spring to mind as great songs among others.
And the cassette had a bonus song _Time After Time_ that helped complete the concept album vibe. "... one day they'll remember, one day they will know..."
In _Bluebird_ the lyric that sounds like "work, work" is actually "help, help" played backwards. Both _Time_ and _Secret Messages_ are the lost gems of the early 80's. The 70's crowd just didn't get it I guess.
Love this type of video. Bravo to whoever created this and I believe they should make some more videos using the magical fantastic music of ELO. Made me want to watch a Will Ferrell movie! 😮
Really glad I stumbled upon this video. Have always loved Stranger as a song and it has recently gained quite a significance on my life due to recent events. Also watched Stranger Than Fiction after watching this and really loved it. Can't believe how well the song goes with the film!

Your going to love this. A very tiny station in Johnstown pa played this song. One day I was in an old geebees store n it came on.thank God the clerk knew who this was. Bought the record that day. Great great song
