Only days after Elon Musk explicitly called out Bob Iger in front of the entire world, he doubled down, calling Disney’s upcoming slate “unwatchable”. The Marvels and Wish losing Disney half a billion dollars between them is certainly a precursor to that.
Bob Iger appeared at a New York times summit though, hoping to restore confidence, but curtesy of Elon Musk … and himself, but mostly Elon Musk, that backfired rather tremendously.
In this editorial, @AndreEinherjar will begin with an extended look at how Bob Iger blamed literally everyone and everything but himself for Disney’s current troubles of his making. Then we’ll see how Iger created a new adversary in Elon Musk, and how the single greatest problem facing Disney right now, is the company’s own employees!

@@sailormatlac9114 Musk owns twitter. He knows there is a significant intersection between Disney haters/bashers and his fanbase. He's playing to them and the adverts they follow. He jumped on Iger because he knows it will play well to his audience and because Disney bashing makes money. I'm not a fan of their recent offerings and I never signed up for Disney+, so while I love the parks, I am critical of Marvel and Star Wars, but not because they're "woke", but because they've just told bad stories.

Bob Iger, Disney, Lucasfilm and KK are all embroiled in very public conflicts with: a majority of the former fan base, FL Gov and legislature, Southpark Trey Parker and Matt Stone and now Elon MUsk. Actively picking fights with very successful persons and organizations. All the while Disney is failing at their industries (US theme parks and movies) Former billion-dollar brands now being beat out at box office by much smaller studios and a whole hell less expensive films productions.

Godzilla Minus One, a subtitled movie made more in US theaters it's opening weekend last weekend than Wish and The Marvels took in combined over the same weekend. One point of disagreement: Disney is NOT being boycotted. Disney is an entertainment company. They lost sight of this. People spend their entertainment dollars on, well, entertainment, not woke sermons. Many who previously felt well entertained from Disney films, just prefer to find better entertainment elsewhere. To Bob Iger: The marketplace has spoken and current Disney projects have been found wanting. It's really that simple.

I personally disagree with your assessment. I can definitively tell you that *I* AM boycotting Disney, actively avoiding giving them any money at all. And based on lots of comments I have seen on a wide number of videos similar to this one, a LOT of people ARE actively boycotting Disney. Although I do agree that lots of people are not going to see Disney stuff simply because it is no longer any good. But there definitely ARE lots of people actively boycotting.

I haven't seen or heard of an organized _"boycott"_ of Disney. I have heard from a lot of people who simply aren't interested in the products (films, Disney+ shows, or parks) Disney has been providing lately - certainly not at the price Disney has been asking. That organic decline in interest is a much bigger problem for Disney than an organized boycott would be, because it's a lot easier to make peace with the organizers of a boycott than it is to win back the attention and affection of an alienated public.

The reason for that is, that it is no longer a simple boycott. It is apathy and abandonment. I think even normies think it is not worth paying for subpar value. And families think it is not ok letting their children watch shows made by p3rverts unsupervised, who publicly admitted they want to manipulate their children. You know, a boycott means people care and will come back. I do not see that in the situation Disney is now ever happen. They are done for the next two generations, even if they would change tomorrow. This Disney saga is going to be studied in Business faculties at colleges and universities for decades as a case study on what not to do. It is mind boggling how the cardinal rule in business of "the customer is always right, (even when they are wrong)" is a completely foreign concept to the highly paid leadership of a multi billion dollar corporation. The market has spoken, not once but several times, that Disney is on the wrong path. Instead of listening to the market, Disney leadership keeps doubling down and calling out their own customers for not buying their product. Combine this with zero accountability by the leadership who now take the position of blaming and firing their own employees that they hired. The Disney Formula: Make a crappy movie the audience doesn't want, thereby alienate the audience, unsurprisingly the movie flops, blame the audience, don't learn from this, make another crappy movie, rinse, repeat. This whole situation would make an excellent movie or, at the very least, a good Twilight Zone episode.

And it's reflected not only in Bob's sanitised corporate reaction to a unanimous rejection of woke culture, but also in the characteristic opinions that experience social media downranking, express unpopular (yet somehow also majority) political opinion, v@x theories that start out as conspiracy theories but eventually turn out to be true, and, wait for it, wholesale public rejection of ESG scores and all the rest of the elitist consensus generating tools. According to the narrative pushed in the business/ finance press, Iger is the genius who built Disney into the behemoth moneymaking machine it was before COVID, with multiple billion dollar box office movies in 2019. The collapse under Chapek is not Iger’s fault, and Iger’s current difficulties are portrayed as him trying to clean up Chapek‘s mess. Regarding the interviewer asking Musk about people boycotting Disney, how "some" are for "various reasons," he must be the type that needs things spelled out for him. The HUGE ratings drops aren't comparable with a boycott lest the people not watching it outright declare it a "boycott." They're the same thing, just instead of an organized boycott movement, households have decided to do it on their own.
