If they get rid of their “diverse board” and put in a board that makes good movies that 50% of the US would go see I would get their streaming service!

I mean its the same company that just last year tried to blame the weather for declining Disney Land visits or covid for movie failures despite plenty of other movies doing great recently. This company isnt led by any competence. Its not a company they built and they dont care if it crashes and burns as long as they can cash out enough for selling their stock as possible

Depends on the use of diverse. Diverse as in diverse portfolios, fine, although the point about lack of industry experience stands. But given we are talking Iger's Disney, it's almost certainly meant the way we're all thinking.

The funny thing is all businesses are naturally diverse, diversity is something that doesn’t need to be forced through agendas and propaganda. If the Hollywood elites actually left their bubble and travel outside the USA they would see natural diversity everywhere.

If I were running Disney in the state it is in, the last thing I would be concerned about is diversity. In fact, unity would be better - a sharp focus on profit.

Strong arguments could be made that Iger buying Fox Studios set up Disney to lose A LOT of money, even if they hadn't screwed up the MCU! Sometimes, buying a bunch of stuff only hastens the demise of your business. That is what Iger seems to have done, in the past decade.

Since the 90s. Disney has had more money than brains. They spent money like water. On the most petty things. They promoted DEI, and when, the people that were hired because of DEI. Started taking over upper management and board positions. They destroyed every bit of things they had and invested in.

Star wars TFA did crazy at the box office simply riding on audience good faith that we were getting more star wars and maybe better star wars since the prequels declined in viewers each entry. TFA made a billion but I think at this point they've probably lost money due to failed recent movies/shows.

Add to that Indiana Jones, and also Pirates of the Caribbean.

Some of them simply took the audience for granted, thinking that the old fans would watch as long as the franchise logo was on the product and new fans, interested in "new" (read non-white male) characters would show up. Some of them certainly really believed that there was this vast, untapped "modern audience" out there, somewhere. Some of them extrapolated that a topic's popularity on Twitter would equate to high sales. Some tried to fake popularity (the way the Captain Marvel movie conflated interest in the franchise as a whole with Carol Danvers' popularity as a character) - or engineer popularity (the way every time Captain Marvel appeared in a comic, any comic, the line "the most popular superhero in the world" appeared with her). But it became very apparent fairly quickly that this was not the case, that "wokeness" didn't sell very well at all. Twitter interest did not equate to ticket, book, or merch sales. The much ballyhooed "modern audience" was either mostly myth or didn't spend money on things like movies or comics - even ones specifically crafted with them in mind. "Woke" comics flopped. Every Star Wars movie performed worse than the last. Every Star Trek series performed worse than the last. In a normal Hollywood era, Kathleen Kennedy would have been fired or sidelined once the box office numbers for Solo were in. Feige would have been replaced or forced to pivot once Shang Chi and Eternals underperformed. But the entertainment industry as a whole became so thoroughly obsessed with sticking it to the country that elected Donald Trump president - that I think they burned their own industry down out of sheer spite for their audience.

It's been done. The audit took about a year and was released about a week ago. It's 88 pages long of high level criminal activity. Everything from bribes to faking the books too tax evasion. Basically if there was a shady illegal way to deal with money, Disney did for more than 50 years. It's really bad.

Bob Chapek had less than 12 months without Bob Iger as chairman of the board. Yes, he definitely wasn’t able to do anything significant. I‘m not a fan of him and doubt he was the right man, but he at least seemed to try, before he always got stopped by Bob Iger loyalists.

Some people are going to jail over the Reedy Creek district corruption being exposed. But who it falls upon is hard to say. Technically there is enough prima facia evidence uncovered by the audit to bring a RICO case against Disney, meaning Iger himself can be named in the charges for just being associated. Like how they took down the Mafia bosses in the early 1980's.

The board is way too big and filled with friends of Bob Iger. I doubt two votes will get Bob Iger kicked. But if he is on the board, he will get access to a lot of information and that may be the real danger for Bob Iger.

To be blunt: Reedy Creek malfeasance is only a disaster for the shareholders due to it being revealed, before that they benefited from it. So who is responsible for it to become a problem may be the bigger question for them. Imo bringing in a former Disney CFO reeks of trying to get a hold on the actual books and see what’s going on behind the curtain. This actually could bring the threat of shareholders suing management if they find fraud or the likes.

I thought the exact same thing...chances are he was well aware of all of the shady corruption and fraud going on while he was in charge...he was too high up NOT to know, so he's one of the execs that will be on the hook for it I think.

It isn't that they are promoting women and minorities... it's *how* they are doing it. "Swapping" comes across as "theft" or "cultural vandalism"... or even a different "-ism". "Bait and switch" comes across as cancellation... and we're talking about characters that were popular, like Luke Skywalker or Iron Man... so that is also *not* perceived as being a good thing.

Yes, but he's not nearly as smart as he *thinks* that he is. It appears that he instigated the mess with Florida in order to back-stab Chapek... so that he could get his old job back... and now he has to deal with the results. In addition, history isn't going to allow him to blame Chapek, so he even failed on that matter, as well. Like the meme goes, "Congratulations, you (Iger) played yourself."
