Ark Invest Founder, CEO, and CIO Cathie Wood - whose ARK Innovation ETF (ARKK) holds nearly $726.8 million in Tesla shares - is forecasting that Tesla (TSLA) stock could climb to $2,600 per share by 2029, in her firm's latest call on the EV maker. A long-time supporter of Tesla CEO Elon Musk, Wood joins Yahoo Finance to discuss the value Musk has brought to Tesla through his leadership
Tesla shareholders have ultimately voted to approve Musk's pay package, valued at around $46 billion based on the company's current stock price, with the results revealed at Tesla's annual shareholder meeting early Thursday evening.
"Elon Musk has been incredibly important to Tesla and still is, not so much on the electric vehicle side - that's on automatic pilot, it's on the autonomous side," Wood says, emphasizing Musk's commitment to autonomous driving functions and integration of AI as to why she sees the stock soaring to $2,600.
Wood goes on to say that there's no other company that will be as impactful for humanity as Tesla under Musk: " What many people don't understand is, the most important variable - once you've got the domain expertise and the AI expertise - is proprietary data. And Tesla has probably more proprietary data, than almost any company in the world. Elon Musk is the CEO of this age that we believe is going to best capitalize on the convergences between and among technologies..."
Wood also comments on Tesla's position in the ARK Innovation ETF as the tech-adjacent EV maker maneuvers auto industry headwinds and a higher for longer interest rate environment.

WOW! Great job Kathy! First time I've heard the real value of the pay package when assigned! Waiting to see if it's also discussed that: The cost to Tesla was accounted for in the annual financials per Accounting Standards as it was required to be included in costs 'when it's probable' to be awarded. Lastly Elon can't simply take and sell shares NOW, as there is a requirement to HOLD the shares for 5 years AFTER they are exercised and Elon has not yet exercised any shares!

Other solutions on the market are geo-fenced, need extremely detailed and up to date maps and rely heavily on an expensive sensor suite that they have to pay for up front. Not to mention the high ratio of safety drivers to cars needed at this point to make it safe and reliable which kind of defeats the purpose. Cruise is already collapsing in on itself and Waymo can’t scale profitably. Tesla’s customers pay for the privilege to drive their cars and they have a massive fleet of over 6 million cars collecting valuable data on every little backroad in the country and abroad. It’s comparing apples and oranges.

@@Matis_747 You're missing the point. Fact is, these "other solutions" are fully operational autonomous taxis already. Sure, Tesla's might end up being far more superior than what is out there currently, but Tesla is by no means in pole position in the robotaxi industry.

@@Matis_747 it's not; tesla will be geofenced as a level 4 and will not be allowed to skip to level 5. Geofenced is basically the definition of level 4. High resolution mapping and lidar was the way to go; everyone serious about ever getting to level 5 acknowledged that years ago. Lidar and radar is much cheaper now than you think

Sensible consumers will know goods are inversely valued to pay of CEOs. Walk away from this. Consumers have spoken loudly on resell value. Market is flooded and engineers laid off. Just a money grab at this point.

This is completely insane. Robotaxi's already exist. At best FSD is just an added value proposition for the cars they are selling (most people cancel their FSD subs; why pay extra when you can drive yourself) plus a bad version of Uber like Waymo.

This is laughable, cruise and waymo will never be able to scale their business model is broken to begin with. They’re geofenced, need HD mapping and rely heavily on an expensive sensor suite that they have to buy and install on cars they have to buy upfront.. It doesn’t make much sense and I predict they’ll both implode soon.

Tesla has a long way to go to catch up with Cruz and Waymo. Tesla has achieved a level 2 self driving level, whereas Waymo and Cruz are level 4. Google leads in Tesla in AI research, autonomous driving technology, mapping, and miles driven.

Cathie Wood's track record has been BAD. Her investment horizon is 5 years and her flagship ETF that is Ark Innovation ETF (ARKK) has returned negative 3.17% over the past 5 years while the S&P500 is up 88% and Nasdaq is up 124% over the same 5 year period.
