Consciousness is fundamental. Elon is on to something, the conscious experience is more than atoms being arranged in a particular pattern. We are definitely missing something huge at the moment because even neuroscience can not describe how a subjective conscious experience works. That being said, we all know and feel that consciousness exists outside of the physical world.

The phenomenon of emergence is the only explanation for human consciousness. Many things about life are emergent in nature. You can see the different things being combined to form the system or entity but you can't see what happened between the combination and the final outcome. Logic say 1+1 = 2 but complex systems are not logical. For complex systems especially biological systems 1-1 =>3 where did the 1+ come from resulting in a completely new system? I dont think science can ever explain this. It takes an intellectual leap of some sort to accept this as reality of nature without your necessarily having to understand it.

I just commented: "About consciousness, Elon Musk said it twice: "I suspect, there is more to it than atoms bump into atoms." Nope, nothing more is needed: bumpily observing each other IS impacting each other - reciprocally, mutuality! And that is what con-sciousness literally means: 1. con=each other, together and 2. scio=knowing. It is something even more fundamental, even more than, say, "c a r n a l knowledge" ¹, nuclear ² knowledge, the most fundamental, primal coitus... coitus a prori! ¹ and who knows, cosmically more enjoyably fun. ² Nuclear particle knowledge... Consider this: Does"particle" mean "being APART FROM", or rather, does it mean "BEING A PART OF"?! I go for the latter...

@@Galantry3828 Of course it does. You start to understand that everything has consciousness and everything is connected to everything else. It's just our human ignorance that makes us think that we're special. But deep in yourself you start to discover that we're not much different from trees and everything else. It's just that we humans lack scarcity for the first time in the history of life as we know it and thus we feel lost and lack meaning and think of ourselves as separate, individual creatures. Think about it: An organism that is constantly thirsty / starving whatever, it'll not waste an ounce of energy more than needed to "think about itself". It'll try to get water and food to survive. The idea of a self is really just to self preserve in the situation of life threat. It's just a pity that we humans express this kind of pattern almost 95% of our life times which is why we have so much misery in the world. The interesting question I think is though why I'm born into this human flesh soup in the first place and what additionally what happens after "death". But ultimately I think everything is much, much more connected and it's our conditioning and ignorance that makes us believe in the first place we're special. I think as long as we hold on to that idea, we won't have a very long time on this earth. Just look around what's happening.

I think Elon has grown in consciousness, when I watched old interviews (even the ones with Lex, he stated that he was against all things being conscious if I remember correctly, and that behavior is all that mattered, like if a robot acts like a human then it's the same than the robot having human consciousness) I had the feel that he was more like a materialist scientist type and wished that he could open himself more to the "mistery" maybe by trying entheogens (Lex did mushrooms and it shows in how he expresses his vision of life and his calm personality), but now I perceive Elon way more open and conscious, also he's laughing more and taking things way less seriously, which is a good sign.

Universe is entangled system of all particles but once quantum systems become larger and larger, complex, there is illusion of seperation. Conciousness is formless, constant change, encrypted form of quantum system that communicates with other quantum systems, so there is some kind of quantum cryptography, so If you go this way, You could conclude similar pattern to blockchain. Body and Mind seems like vessel for conciousness. The Observer and Interpreter of information transmission that communicates on metaphysical level. Every Observer is sender and receiver, aka. Quantum Entaglement. Thoughts are produced by quantum system, so thoughts are quantum systems, conciousness is self-producing quantum systems which we call concious experience, an event, it's like a frame in the movie which every conciousness are creating. Conciousness is producing conciousness kind of like quantum computer can create quantum systems. Why wouldn't there be biological' quantum computer. Computer is just tool for fast computation and computer can't do many things as human do even though it was designed based on brain, nervous system, even deep learning can't, so there is something missing, link between what human can do and electricity of the brain. There is messurement which we call observation, then there is calculation, error-feedback loop and action. Let's simplify what we know to "Everything is information", so How lack of information, nothingness transformed into single particle, single bit of information? Btw. In this scenerio Everything is possible, even something like Universe taking physical body in another dimension and everything is this being creation, higher inteligence creating lower level of inteligence which culture named it alliens or God. How buddism came up with idea of ascending to higher dimensions. Illusion of seperation between Conciousness and the Higher dimensions of conciousness - which people call Matrix? It seems like there is one dimension of conciousness, fundamental level. We can go on and on, conciousness, spirituality, the universe, quantum physics are fascinating. If you could add evolutionary biology, deep learning, game theory, It would end up fascinating conversation.

Every system no matter of complexity has feature of homeostasis, messurement and messurements take diverse forms. Every system design can produce population of that system. Larger and complex it gets it's better. Births and deaths of systems are happening all the time and all that released energy is causing new annomalities, Whenever this creation evolves, all matter evolves too, because less complex systems must addapt either reproduce, become immortal or die. Systems reproduce and live in order to collect informations. Interpretation and action are also messurements of many systems working together causing this or that effect. Kastrup would say that the atoms are produced by consciousness, not the other way around. In other words, consciousness is fundamental, not atoms (or elementary particles). It's difficult to argue against this point of view when you consider that every direct perception and abstract model of atoms exists soley within our minds. We have no evidence that atoms, or anything else, exist apart from our minds.

Your AI will not be able to discover that knowledge, what "that some thing" is because it is beyond humanity. It is also amazingly interesting. One can Neither incorporate that "some thing" into an AI contraption. I have held that knowledge for the past 25 years. I would like to share it with humanity in an esoteric paper and discussion, primarily to safe guard the misuse of that information..... yes bizare as it may sound. That's funny, LSD gave me a similar experience that I drew the opposite conclusion from. When I started to feel detached from my ego, separated from myself, able to look at my thoughts and feelings as if from outside, it seemed like the ideas of "soul" and "consciousness" are just shallow coping mechanisms my body (and my brain is part of my body) uses to process and understand the impulses and experiences I'm constantly assaulted with. I've never been more sure that consciousness and thought are nothing more than atoms bumping into each other. But I also think it's extremely narcissistic for humans to think our brains are capable of understanding reality at all. The analogy I use is a colony of ants building an anthill in the middle of a construction site full of signs explaining that it's about to be turned into a Walmart. There is literally nothing I could do to make those ants understand why it's self-destructive to build the anthill there, because they are not beings capable of comprehending the reality of the situation as well as I can. But ants and I are both just creatures created by the process of evolution, which gave us the intelligence and skills necessary to survive and perpetuate our species. Just because I'm orders of magnitude smarter than the ants, why should that make me believe it would be any more possible to explain to me what's really going on with the universe than it would to explain to the ants how that big yellow digger is going to destroy their hill tomorrow morning?

We are to live in the spiritual world forever where we are to breath the love of God this is the ideal but it is not the case because of the bad position man is in. We have two brains a physical brain and we have a spiritual brain, the physical brain controls the movement of our bodies and the spiritual brain is what we use to think with etc and that is also connected to our spiritual body. Basically our spirit body/soul is a reflection of our physical body, theres a lot more to go on about this but I will leave it at that because people will think it is too far fetched to believe .

@@causeneffect8563 There are plenty of testimonies throughout history of people experiencing the spiritual world I mean take your pick, Bible Old and New testaments, the Quran, theres a great read Emanuel Swedenborg Heaven and Hell came out a couple of hundred years ago. My old man had a heart attack in the Ambulance he found himself floating above his body and watching the medics working on him. My old man driving a train underground at his coal mine, saw a couple of miners walking along the rail by the time he got to that point they weren't there a couple of miners died there earlier, he came home white as a ghost. I have had my own experience with the afterlife. I mean there is plenty of evidence out there the UAP's that the military is seeing they are entities from the spiritual world. We believe in love right but you can't see it can you so how do you know that is love, I could say prove it wheres the evidence. There is plenty of testimonies of the spiritual world but whether they are true or not that is up to you, I can't force that belief I just gave an answer that to me is true. You know a caterpillar spends it life munching on leaves to its heart content in the world not realizing that one day it will be a beautiful butterfly and the ability to go wherever it wants. We are no different, the fetus in the womb is living a life of luxury for 9 months does't have to do a darn thing its all taking care of, no need to cook, plenty of warmth and just a lovely place to be. At birth out of nowhere its life is turned upside down, cold, noisy and now hungry. The same thing happens when we die many people cannot believe they have died, they cannot grasp the fact they are in the spiritual world, they cannot grasp they are in a place they created themselves by how they have lived on earth. So dying for a lot of folk is a dreadful thought, for me no because I know there is an afterlife, the same way I am in love with my wife I can't see it but what I am feeling I believe is love.

Those ideas are never more than thoughts, so the notion that we can somehow understand what consciousness is through mater, is quite absurd. My thoughts on a few things: ❕Intelligence, I would define as the ability to learn, understand, teach and apply knowledge. This can be measured in various already established, documented ways. And we can apply this to ourselves, other species and any future AI. Currently, it is a safe assumption that some AI out there are relatively intelligent, but considering the 'training' and 'programming' required, my credit will still go to the humans behind the project and not the AI itself. ❕Consciousness, I would define this as a sense of awareness of yourself and your surroundings and your place in something larger. This is difficult to measure I think at the moment at least. Tests can be performed (Schneider 2019, Turing 1950), but application of this is very difficult I think to AI at the moment. I personally do not think AI will have consciousness anytime soon. ❕Soul, I would define this as an abstract essence of being, outside your physical self. To measure this in AI or machines at the moment is probably not possible. I haven't done enough research on this, but this would be the absolute most difficult task. How do you even approach this? ❕Thought, I would define as a mental process of modeling and dealing with the world around them. We can measure this with rabbits, rats, humans, and AI as well. Cause and effect of actions, the entities response pre and post result, etc. Basically, we can measure a lot of things, but consciousness and soul are two things at the moment I would say are a fail for AI. Will that change in the future? My guess is no. I think we will all be having this same debate in 100 years, the same way the debate on time travel has been going on and on forever. Everyone likes to forget the solidity of the logic in the Grandfather paradox. Scientific principles lead people to create some crazy theories, but how time works in a universal sense is not implying that you can travel across it. That is and will always be impossible IMO.

Ok, how about this: It’s not the atoms and leptons itself that are conscious at a fundamental level but they rather form some sort of receiver (our body and more specifically our brain) wich does exactly that - it receives and translates consciousness from wherever it’s originating from. So in the same way that a radio itself isn’t the music buth rather a highly developed device to receive and translate the radio signal into music the atoms that make up our brain are not conscious itself but rather organized in such a way that makes them a highly specialized tool wich is suitable for receiving and translating consciousness waves from a more universal field of consciousness if you will. That of course would imply that consciousness exists outside the body and maybe our physical universe (or at least what we have discovered and understand from it so far). So when one dies or our brain is compromised in its function in any other way consciousness can’t use that specific portal into this dimension any longer or only in a limited manner. And that what we then would be could not be touched by any physical threat. Highly speculative of course but worth sharing nonetheless, what do you think about it?

Metabolism is the transformation of meaning into physical dynamics… so living systems are activated by gestalt perception, and gestalts are necessarily irreducible to their constituent parts… Michael Polanyi wrote about that in the 60s… it’s the basis of biological complexity. Our brain computes multiple different sensory inputs (eyes etc.), combines it with previous memories of experiences and saves the new ones, all of this is happening in parallel configuration and is incredibly complex operation running "on the background". Our consciousness is sort of user friendly "top layer" representation of that parallel machine's workings and it feels "serial" to us. It probably developed because it was a survival advantage to be able to predict behavior of your group mates so you had to put yourself into their heads to predict whether they are angry or happy etc. The ones who could navigate better in their social group had better chance of not getting killed and to spread their genes. "Next generation" (meaning many generations later) of these better predicting "humans" were thus even harder to predict, because they themselves could predict people around them and could plot all sorts of potentially malign behavior so consciousness grew more and more complex to accommodate for those intricacies in a feedback loop manner making us capable of not only considering other's intentions, but also putting ourselves into that equation, because if you consider what others think that are your intentions, it might help to predict what they will try to do about it. For example if I know I stole someone's food and I know they know and they are coming towards me looking angry with a stone in their hand, it might be better not to try to hug them, but either run or fight. This should then make you technically "self aware".

What I understand after my Enlightenment: The image of the self/ego is the “soul” which isn’t real. It’s a mind construct. The true self behind this is changing and impermanent. Our mind/body is only as good as we keep it: healthy eating, intermittent fasting, HIIT cardio, no drugs, pranayamas breathework, practice detachment from the traffic of thought.
@ataylor992
@ataylor992 11 месяцев назад
I associate the 'soul' with the true self, just using different terminology but same idea. I've found that ego dissolution is helpful, but running from your ego can be restrictive. I've found acknowledging the ego and exploring it along with the inner workings of the mind (referred to as the subconcious) can be helpful in understanding and navigating the ego self, which we will need to do because we can't stay in ego dissolution forever. Most of us have responsibilities and have to be a person, a lot of us in the western world, which requires us to use our ego state quite often. Just some thoughts.

While reading through the comments, I was so profoundly saddened. It reminded me of something written to the Christians at Ephesus, referring to their pre-Church existence: "...that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of [spiritual] Israel, and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope, and without God in the world." 2:12

I felt quite the opposite. I see many people here striving to understand God, some speak in mathematical terms, some in spiritual, but all getting at the same one truth. I am a Christian and love seeing all these people speaking of these spiritual truths. I don't think everyone needs to follow Jesus to understand God, although I've been blessed to do so myself.

@@avastone5539 Wow. Wow. I believe yours is the most impressive comment I’ve read on RU-vid-“religiousless” or not, at least in recent memory. And I do not patronize. The “challenge” for me is not in entering the emoji-free zone-which I rarely use except for the occasional heart to express my love for someone, but to respond as succinctly and intelligently conveying as did you. I devoted maybe a third of a book which addresses your points, so to cover here the evasiveness of a G(g)od and its reason for the needed causative effects of such, is…um… (Btw, I represent no particular sect of Christianity, so nothing “cultish” here-if you meant literally.) The vast majority of Christians, even, have never learned the pervasive ‘law’ of God expressed by the Christ in John 2:23-25. Most recognize only the surface event and not at all the underlying and all-encompassing principle. I suggest a Google and reading of several different translations but suffice it here to para. state, “Jesus (entirely representing God and His Kingdom with the statement) would not commit himself to them, for He knew all men/people, and knew what is in men/people.” Let’s come back to that. If you have business training or were ever self-employed, you’re likely familiar with the various legal structures of business entities. The one type most prone to failure is that of equal partners. Common sense should also relay that there cannot be equipollent heads of governments and militaries. There needs to be one head of any social structure, one final voice of authority. And if there is never to be any basis for any defense objecting to some injustice-needed for willful and yet joyful submission, that headship must be unquestionably perfect in every way and all subjects thoroughly indefensible. You’ve heard it said many times I’m sure, the Judeo-Christian Bible states God created mortals in the image of himself/themselves, i.e., having a spirit, soul (mind, will, emotions, personality and mannerisms, spiritual heart; ‘us’-my definition), and body. As such, given the correct and conducive circumstances, a human being can accomplish greatness, at times nearing the status of god-like supremacy in their power over others. Such, whether having greatly achieved in the area of intellectualism, business/wealth, beauty, fame, or discoveries, find it impossible at least at times to assume a submissive role in many situations. Regarding such, while brutal in concept, what we who are Christian believe or should believe is that God’s Word on the matter parabolically but of actuality states what will in part be the end of this present age and the start of the next, “Bring here and slay before me those who do not want me to rule over them” (Luke 19:27, para,). What is in a mortal whereby they’d be without the ability to eternally submit to a higher authority and without question or reservation? Arrogance: The by-product of any degree of accomplishment. And what is the only way to overcome unfeigned this otherwise unavoidable obstacle?: If God were to create a situation whereby there is absolutely nothing whatsoever His subjects had to offer his Kingdom, not so much as a fraction of a percentage of ability to input any constructive addition. Hence, no fuel for pride and its resultant arrogance, no basis for any judgment of God and his methodologies, ev-er. So, God, it is alleged by the allegedly authentic Christian, claims that unlike every religion in the world other than supernatural (as compared to merely philosophical) Christianity, the situation exists whereby there is nothing whatsoever any human can do to have a relationship with Him. Such has to be 100% provided by God himself, the recipient knowing that they know that they know that apart from God and his ongoing provisions, “you can do nothing [of any eternal or corporately profitable significance]” (John 15:5; confirmed by a person in Romans 7:18). What must be among that 0% the mortal has to offer? Intellect. Humanism. Sole reasoning. Relativism. Hence, God remains unseen; intangible. He is only found in the inner person, hence, “the Kingdom of God is [in part] within you” (Luke 17:21; all spirits are a constituent of the Kingdom). If and when God instills his Truth of Christianity’s necessity upon the spiritual heart, the recipient will recognize it as Truth and proceed accordingly. It’s the only way, also brutal to some, sadly but necessarily so. Perfect, actually. Oh, and what is it that is in people; what was Jesus referring to in John 2:23-25? There are lists both in Mark 7:21-23 and Galatians 5:19-21, but arrogance (yielding “a proud look,” literally haughty eyes/countenances) is chief (Proverbs 6:16-17a; the Wisdom of Solomon). You my challenger put a lot of sincere thought and perhaps much time in your post (or perhaps unlike me you are just naturally brilliant??), so even if you were the only person to read this, I was blessed to multiply it back to you. That notwithstanding, I perceive my response possibly worthy of others’ consideration, so please forgive if you must my duplicating it on X (I will of course respectfully not reference you or your words whatsoever). Half a century ago as a teen, I did a coop work thing at a health/fasting resort in Naple, FL. My job was helping dig a drainage ditch. Next door was a former small motel, then tuned into a home for Jesus freaks. The leader, I assume (older and wise), approached me one day and briefly asked if I love him. Being that know-it-all teen we often are, I said, “I do not, not love you.” (Ha.) I don’t recall his response other than his claim he loved me, but will never forget the internal impact. I didn’t then understand, of course, but now do. And I love you, dear Ava. To any agnostic, deist or even atheist: if you discern Truth in any of the above, it would be claimed by the Judeo-Christian God that “you are not far from the [eternal] Kingdom of God.” On the other hand, if it is considered by you without any basis in reality, I respect that, and thank you for your consideration, sincerely-hopefully you will not be cruel in any rebuttal felt needed, please. (Also, as someone who has been interacting 30+ years on the internet, allowing time for digestion is nearly always necessary rather than some immediate knee-jerk reaction in defense of an offended or challenged heart.)

@@brotherjim5904 The truth is often simple. Everyone has their respective paths towards truth, and they don't have to follow the path I follow to find a higher power which I am comfortable calling God. I believe in intelligent design. I follow Jesus because Jesus interacted with me and I was shown the highest form of truth that I've ever known through this entity, and was shown that there is indeed intelligent design and order to the universe. This is enough proof for me, so I follow. But I can hardly blame or try to convince anyone else because their experiences are not my own, and frankly I wouldn't believe in Jesus without these personal experiences to be honest. My relationship with Jesus/God requires no intermediary, and is a personal relationship.

@@ataylor992 Indeed, in the Christian Church people have chosen one of three basic approaches to alleged Judeo-Christian Truth. Some are sola Scriptura (Latin for Scripture alone), some quadrilateral (a word coined by later followers of John Wesley), and some like Catholics who are in between the two. I myself am quadrilateral (yet interdenominational). Such as me believe God's Truth is found through upwards of four 'witnesses': supremely the written Word/Scriptures, experience, reasoning, and tradition. In 2 Cor. 13:1, the Holy Word I allege attempts to imply that God establishes His Truth in us via "two or three witnesses." Your experiences are a witness, thought legitimate because they agree with the Holy Bible as well as whatever Truth the Holy Spirit presumably wrote upon the tablets of your "fleshly [spiritual] heart" (2 Cor. 3; reasoning). Imagine telling a human being from 2000 years ago that some day people will communicate with each other via little electronic boxes that we call the phone and talk to and see each other across the globe in real time. We are not our bodies, we are in our bodies. We are souls, and our bodies are mediums by which we contact the physical world. Our brains control our bodies, but we control our brains, we tell it what to think, we set our minds to focus on our interests. If our brains controls our bodies and we are not our brains, then what are we? The Bible explains in Genesis that when Adam was first created he was a spirit, and then God molded for him a body and the Bible says “he became a living soul” because Adam in His original form couldn’t interact with the physical world. No matter the theories you will propound to complicate this, you are always going to feel in charge of your body because you actually are in charge of your body. It’s a suit you are wearing to interact with the physical world. It’s too simple for man to believe because man is obsessed with being sophisticated.
