When the Savemart center Arena opened 20 years ago in my city Elton was the first concert to play. I bought 2 floor 3rd row from stage for my now ex husband and I. You could have knocked me over with a Feather. He played 3 hours. Midway through he began TINY DANCER. OMG...with tears running down my face I sang along. Elton your music transcends generations. ❤ THANK YOU so much
@@richardcuttler7734The two together made the magic. One without the other wouldn't have done it and they both knew that and respected each other's contribution.
The few people we do know this man has brought back from the brink of loss....Robert Downey Jr and Marshal Mathers III (Eminem) just to name two. How many other people he has mentored, aided, and brought back from destruction that we DON'T know about is staggering. Legendary music, shows, and man. Sir Elton John is one of a kind, and a world treasure.
i just want to say and thank Elton John for being who he is. If It weren't for him, we wouldn't have had Robert Downey Jr nor Marshall Mathers, and they as well paid it forward, mentored so many artists....thank you, sir elton for all you have done. your lifes work still continues.
I remember when Elton mentored one of the episodes of American Idol on the season Fantasia was competing and how blown away he was by her, and then here she was performing for him to honor his career. What an amazing journey for her.
Best concert I ever went to was when Elton John and Billy Joel toured together. I went for Billy Joel and he was amazing but Elton John is a master showman.
My sister surprised me and my other sister...our 3 birthdays are a week apart...with concert tickets to see Elton John and Billy Joel! Best birthday gift ever! We had a ball!
everyone I know likes Elton John. I have country music fan friends. they love him. I have metal music fan friends. love him. my 13 year old hip hop / rap fan granddaughter has picked up on him too. loves him. ever listen to Crocodile Rock and not have fun?
Was thinking this very thing. I thought "he's brave" but then remembered he doesn't care one iota what anyone thinks. He is definitely one that does his own thing, unapologetically, and doesn't care if you like him or not. He had most everyone on their feet before it was over. I was thinking, at the start, that these people are going to be a bit stuffy but was glad for him when they couldn't keep themselves sitting down any longer.
I remember when Elton John hit the radio in the 70s when I was listening to the Stones and Led Zeppelin and he just blew my mind. I had never heard anything like it. His album called Empty Sky is still one of my all time favorite albums. The first song on his first album Empty Sky is the ultimate rock song and Skyline Pigeon is amazing.
I can't help crying when I hear, "Your Song." It reminds me so much of my late husband, Tim, who loved Elton John and died of AIDS in 1995. of my feelings for him because as painful was his death for me, my life was so much more beautiful because we was in it, be it ever so brief, under 8 years.
@@rhondaharrigan2838 thank you, so much! My husband was actually diagnosed HIV positive in 1987. I later found that was when testing was first available to the general public. It was a blood test and results took a couple weeks. Now they use a cheek swab and you can get results in 15 minutes.
If perchance, Eltons sons one day come across this comment board, I just want them to know how much he changed my life...how much better my life has been with Elton in it, and how his triumph over adversity, his strength and sheer bloody mindedness ( the Brits will understand that ) got me through my parents deaths, and helped me to move forward...he is an incredible man, the like of which we will never see again..He makes me proud to be English 😌 🏴 !
Elton flew past my balcony recently. I was not aware at that time, but yet I felt something. A local radio station later said without doubt, indeed Elton had flown from Coolangatta to Brisvegas. I saw that jet. I felt that presence. Its the small things that make the most amazing impact on life. Thank you Sir Reginald! For your music, for your being, for your!
I love his music, how could anyone not love it, but the man himself is simply the best type of human being. He and Freddie Mercury were good friends. Prior to leaving this world Freddie sent him a painting by one of hid favorite artists. They both loved beautiful things. Elton is simply one of a kind
Few artists have had the impact that he has had on the planet. A man who has been there for those in need. More real and sincere than him are truly hard to find. God bless you Elton.. May you live until 💯
What an incredible tribute. He was moved, but he also enjoyed it, rocking out to Kid Rock and Billy Joel and being moved by Fantasia and Heather Headley, who performed a beautiful rendition of Your Song.
Elton John is the humblest artist I had the pleasure to see. Elton and Bernie’s music is timeless. I love you Elton and Bernie. Thank you for your gifts to the world. Much love ❤❤❤
I’ve seen Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road tour 4 times and was lucky to see Billy Joel live a couple of months ago too. Both are still just as good as ever. Elton John is a living legend, a truly authentic person. When his candle goes out it will be the saddest day.
Elton John is a Absolutely an excellent Singer, Especially when Princess Diana Died Elton John had a Beautiful Song He Played "Candles in the Wind" Absolutely Such A Beautiful Song it was Perfect Song for the Princess 🙏💯💋🕊️🙋
I saw Elton a few years ago and it was amazing! He played for 3 hours and somehow, I knew the words to every song he did. The songs are so ingrained in our lives that every word is permanently planted in our hearts and minds.
@@doiabugan4303 I've seen Aretha's tribute to Carole King. She was fantastic. Brought the house down and blew Carole King away. Aretha had just been diagnosed with cancer, I'm pretty certain, when she did this.
I was lucky enough to catch him in Vancouver, BC, Canada in the early 70s. It was amazing how much energy was created by a trio in that large venue. Really something. I saw him again in the 90s at the Seattle Coliseum, called the Key Arena at the time. I was working as a stage hand for the show. His encore lasted over an hour.
Funny story. Well maybe not so funny but as a child I was placed in a orphanage at age 5. Even though I was wearing under pants with someone else's name stamped on the waistband, I had been able to keep a Elton John album of my own. It was the only thing I could truly call my own. That album together with a donated record player truly helped me stay sane. Don't underestimate the power of music.
Mr.Downey, this was such a heartfelt tribute to Elton John. I’ve always loved Elton John, even when his songs didn’t mean anything to me…as my first cassette my mom bought me for Christmas 35 years ago was goodbye yellow brick road…and I learned true meanings if life through song…! This was a long awaited accolade to Mr. Elton John. Thanks for all your words that helped to teach me life’s meanings,as I grew up ! Fantasia,no one but you could bring an Elton John song Justice !
Who'd have thought Kid Rock would OWN the whole Kennedy Center? He about brought the house down! Love how Jack Nicholson didn't care who else wasn't dancing. 🥳
Right? It’s a very formal event but Kid’s performance melted through the stiffness and more and more people started jumping up to sway and clap. I chuckled when Annette Bening did the same in the VIP balcony - the most formal section of the audience! Kid Rock is a great performer and he was obviously enjoying singing Elton’s music. 🎶
@@WBCRO You're right!! I was thinking how he shows up in jeans,T-shirt, boots and ends up bringing the house down. He is definitely one that doesn't care one iota what anyone thinks and ends up bringing the audience to their feet🤣
Elton John was amazing rocket man ever he made us in his life with his piano he made it like stars and planets all glowing in the sky what a legend he was but now he has retired from his touring shall we give him big thank you for his touring that we always loved Elton if you are reading this what a legend you have been we won't ever forget you all your songs are now ours but they are going to miss you Rocket man
Went to a grade 7 junior high dance in 1974 and heard Saturday Night for the first time. Elton is in my opinion is one of the top five master musical composers and performers of all time - in the company of Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, Phil Collins, and Mark Knoeffler.
I grew up on R & B so him and Olivia Newton-John were the first singers of The Caucasian Persuasion that I listened to growing up. In 1980 on her TV Special Hollywood Nights the two of them did an amazing rendition of "Candle In The Wind", by today's standards they could have won an Emmy Award.
My first concert at age 16 was Elton. Stood the entire show just in shock. Had a midnight curfew so had to go straight home. Began my love of live shows and frequenting rock clubs. Saw him many more times over the years.
The video for I Want Love remains one of the most poignant and powerful things I've ever seen, especially when you know RDJ's story at that point. It's literally just him wandering around a house miming to the song but it's so affecting. Nice to see Robert pay tribute to Elton here as a 'lifesaver'.
As much as I have enjoyed his music as the virtual soundtrack of my life, I've long identified with Elton's huge heart and his championing people who were lost, vulnerable, left behind, hurting or trying to get a break. It's resonated with me for a long, long time. The emotion in RDJ's voice says it all.
I first heard and saw Elton John’s music video of Can You Feel the Love Tonight for the Lion King on MTV in the mid 1990s. I was totally captivated by his beautiful, majestic, soulful voice! And I’ve been a huge fan of his ever since.
Most music fans probably know at least one EJ song, verbatim. We were blessed to see him in Denver, in 2022. His music will be played for centuries. Someone Saved My Life Tonight and Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, are my favs.
Players are everything to a football club. There are times when even the supporters of the team /club that we grew up with have to appreciate why we are here? GRAHAM AND ELTON WILL ALWAYS BE THE PERFECT COMBINATION AND FRIEND'S. WE ARE HERE BECAUSE OF YOU BOTH.
Wow, a fantastic man verbally appreciating a fellow icon. They will probably never see this, but the lovely and well thanked for these wonderful people. May we achieve half of what we think they are.
I'm 38 yrs old, one of my daughters (11 yrs old) has follow the same music path as me, and she's big fan of Beatles, Queen, Led Zepp, Sting and obviously SIR Elton John... The other day she asked me: you can only choose 1 artist that you'll be able to listen the rest of your life... WOW, what a fkn question... haha.. I realized I'd choose Elton John, by far. Love his music and how he makes me laugh and cry and everything in between.
I've just encountered this - ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC Tributes to Sir Elton John. I really liked Fantasia in this setting - forgot what a nice tone to her voice - as supposed to be screaming and sounding like a chipmunk.
Never in my life did I think id ever see Jack Nicholson dancing to an Elton John song being performed by Kid Rock while the then US President was in attendance. America is hell of a drug.
Amen, what a fantastic speech! Beautiful 2:57 What handsome funn photographs! Absolute beautiful story! Journey. Brought tears, awe'! 6:40 Love you, ALL! 100% B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L! 7:10 So many beautiful, extraordinary artist/people in one place at one time. Love sent, sincerely 7:10 sincerely, Teresa
ELTON GRAN ESTRELLA DE ESTRELLAS, ES DIFICIL CALIFICARLO PUES NO HAY CALIFICACION QUE ALCANCE Y QUE SE AJUSTE A SU TALENTO.MI RESPETO Y ADMIRACION SIR ELTON.
Billy Joel's takes on "Bennie and the Jets" and "The Bitch is Back" takes these songs to an even higher level. Kudos to both music heroes, Elton and Billie. All the performers and players make this an awesome show and we feel even more the richness and genius of Elton's music hearing them interpret his material in their own voices and ways.
