I wasn't necessary for his mother to say that his father didn't like him very much. Obviously he knew that, but hurts more to have your mother say it. Thank goodness he has had people in his life who showed him love.
I thought that too and on camera as well! It''s not just extremely hurtful and devestating hearing it come from your mother's mouth but also letting the whole world know!! He obviously knows his father didn't like him but why does she have to say it. So cruel.
How sad to think his dad couln't even love him . Nice to see how he noticed his short comings its something i think we all need to do . Elton John has been my musical idol for so many years . You can see how he loves his son and nice that another may be on the way . Its so awesome that he is today in a happy place . Thanks for everything you have given us Elton John !
Hear, hear!!! ❤😊 I saw Rocketman and felt like someone stepped inside my brain in so many ways. I know the movie had artistic license (some parts were true), but I still took away an even deeper respect and understanding for Elton Hercules John. I wish I could have kept up the piano and renamed myself, too...
His dad's thinking in those days was very common. I'm going to take a guess and hope and believe that Elton John got the emotional support he needed from his social network to overcome feelings of shame or inferiority. Emotional abuse and neglect is quite damaging. At least I don't think he was physically abused. That's at least something.
@@juliedefee567 I don't think he got much love from his mother either. Elton said in a meeting before she died that she said, "I love you. I don't like you but I love you." How horrible a thing for your mom to say.
Not after this they didn’t. The comments about Madonna were meant to be off the record. Meldrum betrayed that friendship to try and advance himself. Always thought Meldrum was a rather sad little man. This proves it.
@@gooseboy73 they made up now. Elton met with Molly backstage at his concert, patched things up and then proceeded to praise Molly on stage to his audience.
He's beyond Brilliant. The fact that he played "Waltzing Matilda" out of any song on that little piano just melts my heart. My mom use to sing that to me. I sang along with it. I just want to hug him. May he and his family always be Blessed.
He affects me the same way. In 1970, I saw him after hearing only one song: Your Song. I was leaning on the stage, about 5 feet away from him. My first concert....
It sounds harsh but to know the truth and have someone else validate it is good. It's crazy making when you know the truth and everyone says it's not so.
Micron I saw that too and I felt so so bad for my Elton there was no need for his mom to say that there was absolutely no need I felt so bad for my Elton hour Elton have a good day or evening wherever you are I'm still standing
I listen to Elton John's music all the time. His vocals, piano, songs make me feel good. He is possibly the greatest talent rock has ever produced, whilst there are some very worthy contenders I love too. He's an amazing talent, let's not forget Bernie Taupin's wonderful lyrics, I hope he releases an album of new songs soon.
@@bherber Talent & skill. Elton can compose a song within 30 minutes, sometimes less. Bernie writes the lyrics, gives them to Elton & within 30 minutes, the song is complete. Elton was accepted into the Royal Academy of Music at age 11.
The bit of the interview where John says that he's always been a forward-thinking person, he's more interested in what's going to happen than what's behind... I find this SO damn courageous and intrepid, it's like Lord Nelson. He reflects on his brilliant, unique career and music for about 1/4 of a second. This man is my hero.
All I need in life right now is to see Elton John be an ecstatically happy and proud daddy. Please, please we WANT him to stop touring after waiting a lifetime for this beautiful, well-deserved reward. He has given and given and given. I love #EltonJohn
How healing to be the father that you always wanted... Elton deserved so much more from his father who didn't show love or affection. I am sure Elton is the most loving and caring father ever.
The way Elton's father treated him breaks my heart seeing it portrayed in the film really brought a tear to my eye I'll never understand how a father could not like or love a child they helped create this is an incredible interview his friendship with Molly is beautiful
redhotchili: Many people who have kids are not very good at being parents---there's no screening, no background checks, and parenting isn't taught in school. Unfortunately, that's not likely to change in the foreseeable future.
This interview ended Elton's friendship with Molly. The comments about Madonna were made in confidence between takes, Elton never imagined they would broadcast them. He says this in his autobiography.
Even between pals he shouldn't have said it. Madonna often irritates the hell out of me, but his comments were ugly and sexist. He said another cruel remark about Jennifer Tilly's weight when he was filmed watching the Oscars red carpet. I hope he's not teaching his sons that this is how you speak about women.
Arsehole Channel 7 people in Australia - see my comment elsewhere on this post. I'm angry as hell, because I know first hand that Molly kept many, many "secrets" during his time with ABC and Countdown. He would not deliberately betray Elton like this.
Wtf is his problem with madonna, the things he says about her here and the way he says them lead me to believe he is completely jealous of her for whatever reason, that's the only logical conclusion I can see here in his whole behaviour
@@MarkBransdon .... Well it clearly looks like betrayal. And Elton would have decided for himself if Molly was caught in the middle. A hidden camera whilst the main camera is switched off. Elton let his guard down. Perhaps he had too much trust for Molly. In other interviews he would not of been like that. I would never trust Molly the moron. Molly was just desperate. He sold his old friend out.
When my mom passed away, after I had to sign the do not resuscitate orders and we turned the machines off I played "Your Song" while I held her hand and she passed away. She used to sing this song to me when I was young. It being his first pick, then playing makes it seem like yesterday. I have to see this man live b4 it's too late.
I’m very impressed with Elton John’s personally, it is very open, kind, sensitive and thrust worthy person, I totally understand his pain about his father relationship because mine is the same, and in the life-way we met people who became close to us and we are trusting them but no one can replace the parents.
He never ceases to amaze me! I wish he was my brother. Not because he's famous. Just because he had gone through so much alone before he turned the corner. I'm glad he's still with us. Can't wait for the day we get to see him in concert.🤞🙏 Hopefully soon, somewhere...
So it's better to be alone in the world, right? Cathy Smith. You religious zealots are the ones who should be alone. Who wants to listen to your idiocy?
You can just see the sheer difference between his father’s parenting and his parenting. You can see he is genuinely proud of his son, he is happy with him and David. I also admire how he has really come a long way and how he is just down to earth now. Truly one of my favorite musicians.
I love how some people say Elton and David are "flaunting"/using their sons. Like...don't pretty much all new excited parents want to show of their kids? Of course they want to talk about them and gush over how cute they are! That's not "flaunting" it's just proud parents who clearly love their kids. Plus most interviewers ask them about it sooooo I don't see any issues
Molly, Elton and the legendary parties that they have had. Huge success for both them. Looking forward to the new movie that is coming out this month. Cheers Elton and Molly. Thanks for the music. Molly, thank you for helping Australian Music so much. You both are living legends
Elton is clearly a very talented man and can be admired for that and I suppose all of his success, but he admits he became very caught up in "self" to the point of abuse of others in presence. Now to speak about his children. God loves Elton and his children, but would not bless his "family". A lot of people who throw that saying " God bless" say it in vain so it truly is meaningless. Elton will be praised and admired for becoming a dad, but he is still somewhat selfish because his kids will be without a parent sooner than later. I hope they have contact with their birth mother/mothers.
Oh ! I can't believe Elton's mother saying his father never liked him because that is so sad for the child which is in every man ....It was the opposite for me because I am a 70yr old Anglo /Irish grandma and my mother died two years ago and told me to my face when I was young that she hated me from the day I was born but whenever I got the chance to see my father he used to avoid the subject because he didn't want to hurt me . Thank God I had grandparents who loved me and brought me up . Well done to you Sir Elton. .we both came through .
Elton is easy to like an admire! Such a down to earth guy, I remember my dad buying mad man across the water record! Fantastic! I never cared for yellow brick road mostly due to his costumes the duck the big glass's etc..but he has come full circle and is much better then ever!! We are so lucky to have his and Bernie's music..much love Elton..
Elton's release of 7 No. 1 albums from 1972--75 was the greatest stretch of quality song output in pop history, with over 90% of the tracks being awesome. Only the Beatles came close, but they had 3 songwriters and four singers. Elton did it all with one lyricist.
"I said some pretty horrible things about [Madonna] to a TV interviewer in Australia, a guy I'd known since the seventies called Molly Meldrum. You can tell from the footage that it wasn't part of the interview, that I was just sounding off to an old friend between takes - you can hear people moving cameras around to set up the next shot while wer're talking - but they broadcast it anyway, which brought that particular old friendship to a very swift conclusion." - Elton John 'Me' (2019) The media are scavengers. Even if the interviewer says they're your best friend.
My favorite Elton John song? Nikita! I hands down love that song! The melody, the background vocals with George Michael! It’s just a beautiful piece of music!
Victoria Comeau My god its impossible to zero in on one particular song! Something about Nikita destroys me though! Maybe it’s the nostalgia of it,after all I remember watching the music video on mtv when it was brand new...or maybe it’s the story in the song itself. I can’t speak for everyone but I know how it feels to want someone I can’t have. Oddly enough last night at work I had the song Hoop of fire stuck in my head! Thank god it’s a cool song! Check it out if you haven’t heard it! From the leather jackets era!
Nikita is one of my favorite 80s songs from Elton. He sings it beautifully, I love his voice in that song. It's also memorable for the melodic bass line.
I'm really glad he mentioned Someone Saved My Life Tonight - it's so often overlooked, but for me it really is the song that sums up his dramatic and turbulent personal life, and the beautiful friendships that have helped him through thick and thin. It reminds me that friends can be more valuable than partners, they know you better than you know yourself. Partners will come and go, but real friends will stick by you, tell you what you need to hear, and keep you grounded.
Well he does now in interviews since movie came out. Now everyone knows Bernie had big part in his success and maybe even prevented him from killing himself.
Elton has tried to include Bernie in the accolades but Bernie shuns the spotlight - that's why we never saw him up until the success of the "Rocketman" movie.
Congrats Elton and David , I have 2 boys and without them I wouldn't of made it this long my wife and I of 26 years are still going , and with a true tear in my eye right now I love her more then yesterday. I've worked in Sawmills 26 years , bouncer 10 years and faught 10 times in the cage mma lost 1 won 9 but 47 years caught up with me quick . I'm so happy for you two congrats some times I listen to somebody save me I'm in a lot of pain . Love ya both , America, Washington state .
" will you get another baby?" ' yes we definitely GET a little brother or sister for him" How kind and thoughtful of the interviewer to give Elton Jon a keyboard. Touching!
what a great person he is for reflecting back and admitting that he was " self absorbed". Lucky to find a partner to sort of draw his attention and balance him out.
Carol I've been listening to and loving Elton 47 years and this man was always good looking always and let me tell you sexy to especially with that nice hairy chest Mamma Mia I love it I love my Elton I love my Elton I'm still standing
23 years together today wow what a story to teach not only the gay community about how to be faithful but also the straight community. You guys have a lot to teach people.
Oh my god when he took that keyboard & just belted out “waltzing Matilda” like it was nothing - my heart exploded. He has so much love for Molly & our country and I just cannot love this man enough ♥️
I love you so much Elton! I am 54 now. When I was 12 or 13 a good friend of mine invited me to come to your concert. Her parents said she could invite a friend and she chose me! I was so excited! I went home to tell my dad. He said well you need to ask Liz. My stepmother. I didn’t understand why I had to ask her! She wasn’t my mom! Well she said no! She said I was too young to go to a concert! So I have never gotten the chance to see you in concert. I’m writing this as if Elton will actually read it! Lol! I guess you never know! So I just want to say thank you for all the amazing beautiful music! I’m so happy that you are happy! Love you!
That makes me sad that she didn't let you go. You would have remembered that for the rest of your life. I'm the same age as you and when I was twelve my mom took me to see KISS. That was a night I will always remember. Hopefully one day we'll both get to see Elton in concert.
Michele Homan On the bright side, I spent 1 or 2 weekends a month with my real mom. She took me to see Chicago! That was my first concert. It was awesome! It wasn’t Elton but it was great. I had just turned 14 when I went to that one.
That was an unconventional and FANTASTIC interview. A genuine chat between friends really, that we got to see. Loved it. PS pitty about Madonna. I think (have heard, read or seen) that many people in and out of the industry feel the same about her. She's ALWAYS had this seed of discontent and a rather vicious way of going after folks. You'd have to be blind and tone deaf and without any sensitivity whatsoever, not to recgnize that absolutely huge and well rounded talent of Gaga.
I was never a big fan of homosexuality that's my problem but I absolutely love Elton and I'm so happy hes got two beautiful babies or toddlers! God bless you Ej I love personally love you
Came here looking for Molly, what a nice insight to Elton though. He always been kick arse! Always gets most tradies on site at work tapping away or singing out as loud as you can.
I like this Elton . Wish him the best with his husband and sons. ITs about time going thru all the years of hard work and drama to finally have peace of mind and love in your heart. Thank you for all the joy you have given the world with your music and many more years down the road for you to pick and choose what you want to do with your life and family as you do not owe us your fans anymore than what you already gifted us with..
What an incredible talent thank you God for Elton and his where with all to hook up with Bernie what an unstoppable God send of a team with a God assignment to soothe the worlds aches and pains with melodies and strokes of songs reflecting our own feelings of pain triumphs and victories . Thank you thank you thank you we love you so much Elton !
Whoops--nice seeing Elton so happy and anyone with issues about a gay couple raising kids needs to see this. I wish the man all the best, he has so much talent
