Sadly she probably never will. 😅 I'm the same way with The Beatles, for example 20+ copies of "Sgt. Pepper " between LP & CD (and I get the same reaction from various people) . They're all different in some way. I'm guessing your "Blue Hawaii" collection is too. I can empathise with you. Cheers 👍
Not surprisingly, I am in total agreement with you guys on this one. Keep the sessions comin'! I do believe there was a Super Audio release on this as well. I wonder if the omission of "takes 13" are because of Elvis' own superstitions (?). Great job on the cast and nice to see you both. Thank you
Steve!!! So glad you commented - hope you're well, man! One of these days, you'll have to swing out this way and join us on the program for a block of episodes! And that's possible, though some of the movie sessions made "lucky 13" take jokes, so I'm guessing it was an engineer or someone who was at Studio B. But now you've got me curious as to when they did or didn't!
Hey guys, the whole 'complete/multiple' takes releases are definitely a niche thing. As a 'slightly more than casual' Elvis fan I'd probably fall into the middle release type category. I don't mind listening to multiple takes to a point especially where you can hear a progression towards the finished product. But I know I couldn't sit through 17 takes lol of one song lol. 😮 But there's devotees like yourselves who love that stuff and we should probably be thankful for that. It's horrifying to hear that a tape recording got destroyed back in the day because it wasn't deemed important enough...🙄 I'm loving this aspect of the channel. As a casual Elvis collector this is important information. My purchase decisions of the "Jungle Room" & "Album Collection" sets were informed by your videos. Keep up the good work. My wallet & bank account might not thank you but I will lol. Cheers guys 😊👍👍😂
That's awesome, Peter! As completist fans for decades, we always were frustrated by the label not caring about what we were after - but now, since we're finally being listened to, we can see the past releases for what they should always have been: aimed at other parts of the fanbase. And while I will always push for complete releases, I do think it's important to keep releases available that the middle and lighter parts of the fandom catered to, as well. Plenty of room for everybody, imo, and it's great to see the fandom embrace this more broadly, as well. 😁 And you're very welcome - but be sure apologise to your wallet on our behalf! 🤣
Another great listening experience with outtakes is that the sound quality is sometimes better than the master (if the original studio tape used). These tapes haven't been played as much as the offical masters so their condition and audio quality can be better (they also have to be mixed as no offical stereo mix would have been made).
Exactly. And in the case of these sessions releases, the masters on CD1 and the masters found within the sessions are very likely taken from different sources (3-track vs 2-track) which explains why the masters in the sessions sound more like the session and not like the ones found on CD1.
That’s a very interesting breakdown of Elvis’ stylistic periods… I’ve never really thought of the Marathon sessions as having more in common with the guitar man sessions than they do 71, but now that I think about it you’re right, it’s a very similar sound, 71 was starkly different
Just came across your channel and I love it...Trying to binge watch so I can catch up. I agree with you guys in that as a fellow Elvis nerd, I need the entire Elvis Is Back sessions. I have the 2nd CD, but now I need the complete one. Looking forward to the journey through you're channel. Thanks guys!
⚡⭐⚡⭐⚡⭐⚡⭐⚡ This is one of the best Produced album ever produced from the sound board engineers, Elvis' very gifted music ear to the final mix. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ ⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡⚡
Actually, I’m quite fond of the original 1988 cd engineered by Rick Rowe. It still holds up very well, imo. The DCC version, can’t find it, ugh, it’s phenomenal, but for now I’m happy and content with the 2disk FTD version. Maybe I’ll get the session set when I’m financially stable. Awesome content.
Hi, Francesco! Thank you! Yeah, most of the releases of this material have been solid, though the FTDs have definitely been the best of the bunch, imo.
Hi Jamie and John love out take on elvis music elvis is back true show how hard elvis work on he music see him have fun do the musci have real good time love elvis FTD album guys love your video all on elvis keep up cool work you guys do look forword more cool video TCB forever
I'm waiting on sessions of the 70s material. Like 1972 including March 72 masters and the mock sessions for elvis on tour, they were all recorded in March or around march.
Thanks for this! Even though I am jumping late on the FTD bandwagon, I find that if I want the classic album version/series but that's OOP but, the sessions series is available I am going w/ the sessions series just for a economical standpoint.
Hey Friends :) , another great review, and great research on one of Elvis TOP LPs, love this LP, i was lucky to get the Vinyl of the FTD, its really hard to get this and very expensive, of course i got the Original MONO and STEREO USA issues :) Have a great weekend friends, Sincerely, Lior
It's funny the different levels of fandom. I'm a CD collector and have all the versions of this and was so excited by the sessions CD coming out as I love this album. Having said that, On Jamie's point about buying them all, I won't be doing that. I'm only interested in the 'great' sessions. American sound definitely, Nashville sessions definitely but I'm not buying in Jamies example Easy Come Easy Go sessions. The 2 Disc ftd is more than enough for me with what I consider lesser releases with inferior material. There's a money factor too. Great channel guys
Hi, Graham! Thank you so much! And I definitely can understand that - sessions of everything isn't for everyone's taste, and that's totally cool. As long as all fans have something that satisfies them with each set of material, that's what's important. 😁
My favorite album by far. You mentioned that live show from Hawaii, what a fun concert to listen too, but the sound is terrible. I’ve tried to find the best versions of it but no go. Love to hear you two review that concert. Keep ROCKIN
Hi, Dan! Thank you so much! Yeah, the live show is rough, it's one of those "your ear adjusts over time" kinda things, lol. The MRS versions would probably be the best overall, I'd say. And we'll definitely talk about it soon!
I remember being 18 when that ftd Elvis is Back vinyl came out. I wanted it so bad, then it sold out and it was on eBay for 80 bucks and said screw it. Boy I wish I would have picked it up. Great album. I didn’t make that mistake with the full sessions CD. Also interesting to hear of the preference of the 70’s pressing of EIB. I have an NM orange label pressing and it sounds awful in comparison to my VG 1960 pressing. Much less detailed. Sounds like a thin sheet is placed over the speakers. Very weird. Also that speakers corner is the same as the DCC vinyl release. Idk how they got away with that lol. Going to pick up the 2lp from Analogue Productions before it goes out of print again. I’m sure it’s phenomenal.
Very cool - thanks so much for sharing! Eventually, it would be fun to take a look at different pressings and do fuller sound evaluations. 😁 And glad you got the sessions CD set, too - definitely not one to miss!
Thanks guys. A fantaatic episode as usual. I really love the 1999 CD. Why? The single sides are extending the album and makes it one of Elvis best. Does anybody know who mastered the 99 CD?
Hi, Andy! Yeah, that is a good release, too! And if I had to guess, it'd be Lene Reidel, but not sure. I'll try to remember to check when we get back from Memphis!
The complete sessions set here looks absolutely fantastic and I see it's available right now, so I'm thinking about getting it. One question though- isn't this is the one that had the disc replacement (for whatever reason)? Would the new copies now still have that faulty disc? I have the legacy edition and the classic album FTD for this and I have a few gripes with the latter. There's a few takes I wish was on it and and the chatter on the master of I Gotta Know is annoying. About the DCC of "24 Karat Hits" - yes there are a few differences. I think Hoffman remixed Return to Sender (maybe another?) from the 3 track. Some of the sources on there are inferior to my ears and Stuck on You has a glitch somewhere.
So many 🙉. Month ago before when I subscribed here) I had no idea what ftd was actually or that there were so many releases of same album. Where do you guys buy your ftd releases.
Oh, wow! Yeah, we can help a lot with that! We tend to get ours from Chris at www.theelvisshoplondon.com - or at shopelvis.com (every now and again, FTD titles will be discounted there, though not often). Hope that helps!
Yeah, it's pretty crazy what those are going for now - in the future, we're going to try to make announcement videos so no one misses out on the sessions sets - currently, the 63-64 sessions are out (called "Devil In Disguise") and they're great, so grab that one (at shopelvis or similar) when you can! :)
@@marcoesquandolez4737 Ooh, very nice!! And defintely - I hope you can find one, too! Maybe look at some fan club websites, maybe one of the overseas sellers have a copy or two left?
RE using home recordings from 1958/9 on Elvis Is Back! NO! They're already on For Elvis Fans Only and A date With Elvis and within the correct time period.
For FTD, agreed - but most artist's Legacy album releases contain demos, live versions, and related audio bits that give a fuller picture of the album - which is what a small selection of relevant home recordings (like "There's No Tomorrow") would do. This would give the general public a greater picture in the same way that other artists' Legacy album releases give, and we all know the general public could certainly use more of an education on Elvis's artistic process.
