the movie was epic I felt the impact of the film you saw a bright bubbly young Elvis go from healthy good kind hearted family man to a 1973 shadow of what his was. He was tired over worked and exhausted in 1977 you saw nothing Elvis was already gone he was just a shell of his former self. Yes drugs may have played a part of his demise but Parker was a major part of his decline and fall.

Just hearing Austin’s interviews you can tell he really poured himself into this role and it shows. Luhrman’s visual style looks like it really elevates this movie. Austin Butler did very well in his role. I feel there could have been a bit more soul into the film itself. I was looking forward to seeing who Elvis was, as a person, as a father, as a husband, as a son, as a friend, how he met his wife, their romance, what challenges he faced growing up, how did he overcome those challenges to get his first record deals with Sun Records, what he felt when his first record achieved success, what he felt on anything.

This movie has a two way perspective though where it isn’t told 100% from Elvis’ perspective but rather 50% Elvis, 50% Colonel Parker. Still i felt the whiplash of how quick they skim over his childhood only giving us a basic understanding of what it was before going straight into the Hayride performance. While I don’t think the movie lacks soul, i’m still intrigued that a film called Elvis is really only 50% of Elvis
@dekexz19
@dekexz19 2 года назад
@@Butwhythough881 Ig you could argue that’s part of the point they were making. A “star”, like Elvis, is very much the person playing the face of that brand, but is potentially just as much the Snow(marketing and management). That the Colonel(among other people) IS the Elvis we know. People like him shaped the exact venues, specials etc. Kinda explains why friends were asking Butler’s character to just be Elvis instead of ‘the face’ and why they put such a focus on the circus. Still, I would very much prefer the movie to be a straight biopic of Elvis’ life lmao

I took a literature in music class in highschool and one of our units was dedicated entirely to Elvis and the impact he had. Our teacher made the point that there have really only ever been three (a group is one of them) world superstars. Elvis, the Beatles, and Michael Jackson. While we have had many many stars since then, he made the point that no one has come close to capturing the same fire as all of them did. While it easier to become famous now than it was then, the market is also saturated. Elvis is the precursor to that kind of fame, his debut coincides with many things that gave him an advantage and his outstanding sense of performance captured everyone. Sure we have groupies now who will follow a band around, but Elvis set the country and the world in some sense on fire. I actually like his voice and music too.

He was so hardcore Lawful Good that he brought his own son in when a warrant went out for his arrest. Walked for miles in the heat to show up at a bandit hide out pretending to be one of them, to capture a pair of murderers. Survived several ambushes including being stuck between 2 horses and nearly shot in the head. First of all Cecil B DeMille did not direct Ben-Hur. Second, the urban legend that a stuntman was killed during the chariot scene of Ben Hur and that it was left in the movie has been debunked. There was however a fatality on the 1923 original where a stuntman was tossed 30 ft in the air and died of internal injuries while filming the chariot scene.

Very few actors can nail the essence of an iconic performer. Not every actor has to LOOK like the icon they are portraying. For example, Jennifer Lopez didnt look exactly like Selena, Michelle Williams as Marilyn Monroe or Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, but their performance was outstanding. However their performance has to convince the audience that THEY are indeed the icons themselves. Not every actor is able to pull that off. Either they were made for that role or they weren't.

I am shocked we haven't had a big-budget major motion picture about the Beatles, especially about their touring years. We've have TV movies and a few indie films about their early pre-1964 period and 1969-post period (Nowhere Boy starring Aaron Taylor Johnson is about teenage John Lennon), but we've never actually had a film that details the 1964-1966 touring years/Beatlemania, or the creation of Sgt Pepper, the White Album and Abbey Road. I'd personally like to see a two-part film. The first focuses on the touring years (I'd have called it Eight Days a Week if not for the documentary, but you could also call it Meet the Beatles after their first US Capitol album). The second focuses on the studio years. I'd reckon a film about the Beatles would be massive at the box office. The Beatles are still hugely popular and relevant, even more than Elvis. Even a lot of millennials and Gen Z (my generation) love them. It'd be a hugely dependent on the casting. The Fab Four have very distinct and iconic personalities. And all four were hilarious and witty. You actually will need a British comedy writer to help write the screenplay.
