one of the GREATEST performances of one of the GREATEST performers to ever grace the stage in America!!! Elvis is one of the few performers who lives up to hype. Many people who haven’t experienced him say, “Yeah right” until they actually experience him! He was THAT good!!!
@rawschri
@rawschri 3 года назад
The performance is known as " American Trilogy ", 3 traditional US songs " Dixieland " a homage to his southern roots, " All my trials " accredited as being a Black " Spiritual " song, and " Battle Hymn of the Republic " , a song originally from the south, that was adapted by Union soldiers during the Civil War ... Elvis saw this as a way of uniting people through his music ..

Don , that is a staggering statistic , never knew that was the audience figure , but that is the draw , the sheer star power the man had and that was before any of the modern tech we have today such as YT , cannot think of one so called " star "of today that would pull in that kind of audience .

Elvis died on August 16, 1977 at the age of 42. I was 13 at the time. I'll never forget it. His funeral was the largest I'd ever seen in my life. (Televised, of course.) Outside his home at Graceland was overflowing with devastated fans. My mother loved him, as did billions of people. I loved him and even now, my own grown children love him. He'll never be forgotten. He had one daughter, Lisa Marie Presley. He also has a few grandchildren. Lisa also had a son that she said looked just like him, who passed away at the age of 27 or 28. (Incidentally, the ring cost Elvis $40K to have made...it sold at auction for $204K.) He had given it to a band member though before that. Thank you for reviewing that. I thought it was one of his greatest performances.

The KING was called the KING for a reason. He was the greatest performer of all time and left all others in the dust. He was the FIRST to do music videos. He was the FIRST to do movies. Yeah, Frank Sinatra did it but not AS Frank Senatra ... Elvis did his movies AS himself and those were the original music videos. He was KING of TV too. The first worldwide satellite cable broadcast back in the day before the internet....he performed in front of a BILLION people. Nobody has come close. He was, is and will always be THE KING!

Elvis was the WHOLE package 📦! Elvis put three songs together which he called: American Trilogy. He had a singing voice of almost three octaves (more than most). That ring had a value of about $30,000.00 in 1973. That jumpsuit costed Elvis $240,000.00 in 1973. Elvis at his peak of power and majesty!

One of my favourite songs by Elvis, in front of a huge audience …. This was the very first live concert that was beamed across the world to 36 countries via satellite. I watched it in New Zealand, & he was just magnificent. Every performance was stunning, & although he had been told not to move/dance as being viewed by so many different cultures & religions, he still managed to get some of his trademark playfulness in & some ad libbing along the way.

Notice at 1:07 as Elvis watches the Stamps Quartet, or more specifically the bass singer on the right, JD Sumner, cupping his hand over his ear to hear himself as he dredges the basement of the place for those notes he's singing, that little twinkle in Elvis' eye, that little smile playing about his lips. Elvis himself could sing pretty low when he wanted to, but JD's ability to hit notes that Elvis could only reach on a piano was like a constant running joke between the two long-time friends. On videos of practice and jam sessions, you can see Elvis just shaking his head and laughing at this force of nature that was Mr JD Sumner!

FYI - American Trilogy is about the Civil War. The first part " Dixie Land " was in reference to the South. The Glory Hallelujah was a reference to the North. And the " All my Trials will soon be over " is the reference to those who were Slaves. Truly a Beautiful song ---------
