In fact Elvis was addicted to sedatives and sleeping medications in high school (before he was even famous) due to extreme insomnia. He was dependent on them by this time plus addicted to pain medication and other prescription medications due to the army. It never seemed to affect his singing as you can see from this video. It should be noted Elvis wasn’t addicted to alcohol. It is a very known fact that he seldom drank.

I studied musicology and one of my professors said (dead serious) that Elvis was the greatest pop-singer that ever lived.
