Some say Elvis prefered The Dave Clark Five to The Beatles. He was one of the British bands that he liked either way. Fabulous stories from Arlene. Thanks Spa Guy.
Another great interview in your series with Arlene Charles. This story was heartwarming as well as heartbreaking. Great story for the times we are living in now with alot of unpleasant news. This story was very uplifting. Glad to hear the Christian foundation as reason for all we do.
Such a lovely Lady.I’m sending you such blessings from England I absolutely agree God knows exactly when to bring special people into our lives. There is no coincidences. Thank you Billy.Trey for another epic interview.....beautiful ....🇺🇸🌈🇬🇧🌹
Could listen to this lady for a long time telling her stories. Such a shame she had to go through such a bad time with losing her husband Mike in the manner she did. Once again thanks Spa Guy and Troy for your hard work in doing these Elvis related videos..etc as with me being an Elvis fan in the UK they are fantastic viewing.👍😎
Wow, what an amazing love story, all that time that went by and then reuniting. To have someone remember you like that is the greatest love story. Gave me goosebumps. So sad about her husband's accident. I'm so sorry for her loss, it was such a freaky accident. She is such an upbeat classy strong lady! How cool to have been friends with Elvis and have a husband who admired Elvis as well. Bless Arlene Charles, she is amazing. Thanks for bring her to us Billy. You always tighten up!
What a sweet lady God bless her and such a beautiful story with such a sad ending to it. My uncle was in stoke mandeville hospital in aylesbury over a freak accident he woke up to use the bathroom one night he fell hit the back of his head on the dresser and got paralyzed from the neck down. He was in and out of that hospital for about 4 years until he died. It's the best hospital in England for spinal injuries. Great video brother Billy. Thanks so much.
I didn't know the full story of Mike's marriage to Arlene. What a lovely woman she is. Mike was one of the greatest voices of the 60's. Nice video, thanks for posting.
WOW 😮 this interview was absolutely riveting Billy! The more this lovely lady talks the more amazing revaluations of her life are revealed 🎭 what an interesting life she has had!..she is so engaging, humble, funny & down to earth...a delight to listen to 🥰 thank you Billy & Trey for this great video 🎥👍🏻👏🏻 😍
Thanks for the fascinating interview with Arlene Charles. She had a fasinating life and a heartwarming love story.Such a beautiful lady inside and out . Very sad about her husband.God bless her. Stay safe God bless you and yours Billy !
Beautiful 👍🏻❤️ what a lovely life story she had. Sorry to hear of her husbands accident however, that must have been difficult for them both. She’s a strong , yet soft spoken lady . 🌼
Thank you for this video. I grew up with Dave Clark Five and always thought it should have called the Mike Smith Five. I knew Mike had died as a result of a fall at his house, but didn't know the details. I had no idea he was paralyzed and lived 5 years. And the story about reuniting with Arlene after 40 years apart is mind blowing. I really appreciate knowing the full story, so thank you so much for this interview.
Arlene Charles ( Charlie Smith ) , thank you for sharing your love story on how you met Mike Smith . I didn't know that . I'm so sorry for your loss . Life came full circle for you . Charlie , I have a granddaughter named Charlie also and her other grandmother ( my son in law's mother) looks so much like you . My daughter watched this with me and she said the same thing . 😉 Thank you Spa Guy for sharing another wonderful video with us !! I love it !! ❤
Teresa Paskell I found this excerpt from an older interview on Pinterest www.pinterest.es/pin/334251603579495890/ I think it was from the early 2000’s.
Another great one Billy. I imagine it takes some time to assemble this type of brilliant work. I am proud to be in contact with this great man Billy and all he represents.
Hi Billy 😊 Enjoyed video today, thanks for sharing Arlene's Elvis story, very interesting to hear. Sorry about her husband's death, but happy for her that she reconnected with him, and had some wonderful years together. Stay safe, and thanks again for sharing! You're friend Bonnie
True romance! Arlene so sorry about the accident but Mike got the best of care and what a man as you say he stayed positive!!! Your love and visits while in was in the facility shows how much a loving person you are. From Elvis friend ,to Jerry Quarry to Mike Smith Dave Clark Five ...and now still keeping Elvis memories alive!!! Great Jerry and Mike loved Elvis !
Billy thst was a beautiful story about Arlene and her husband, Mike. Heart breaking. For her and him! I realize how lucky I am cause I was 21 yrs old I had a freak accident and broke my back in 3 places. Right at my waist. I was in the hospital for 3 wks and wore a brace on my back for about 6 months or so. I didn’t start to have real issues with my back till I was over 55. That’s why I can’t get around good now. God bless her and Mike. So weird to have a weird accident like that. You just never know how your life will turn! Thank you Billy for that lovely story. She’s still beautiful and so sweet.
Very nice interview SG. Arlene is about a sweet personality as there is. Thank You for precious (love) stories of Mike Smith. Never had heard of this accident. How unfortunate. Thanks again.
Wow what a wonderful woman - Mike Smith is one of the greatest singers of all time - the Dave Clark 5 were - and still are - a great group ! God Bless the DC5 , Love from Joe Nania a.k.a. "Hollywood" Joe
Great story! She is such a sweetheart! Side note: I was in LA a couple of years ago and stayed an an Airbnb just a block away from the former Hollywood Studio club. Had no idea until I got back home and started researching this old building that was just down the street.
Met Charlie during Mike’s first comeback tour...and again at stoke mandeville hospital when they let me visit in 2007. Even my young daughter who came with me said they were really in love and I agree. Cheers Charlie wherever you are today (i am still where we were last in touch)...Doug

The sweetest love story. I was at the British Invasion benefit concert for Mike Smith in NYC in '05. It was an amazing night of music. Bless you Arlene.
Mike Smith Was the DCF.dave Clark would have nothing without mike's superb voice.Mikes voice made them the money shame on you Dave.Rip Mike keep rockin in heaven.!
I have a story for Mrs Smith! In the early 70s I was spending 2 weeks on Cape Cod. I was 16. Rumor spread that Mike Smith was staying at a cottage in Harwich. My friend Dave had a speed boat and a group of us drove up to the cottage [in the boat] that was right at the edge of the water on pylons. I thought Dave was joking and I was shouting Mike! Mike! as a joke. Well, lo and behold, out walks our hero, Mike Smith. As an avid Ed Sullivan watcher, I recognized him immediately. I was at a loss for words and asked if he wanted to go for a spin in the boat. He said no but was smiling and friendly the whole time. Another guy came out with him and I could not recognize him and I felt kinda bad because I think he was someone we should have known but didn't. It was a positive encounter and a very happy memory for me. [I doubt that a Dave Clark encounter would have been as sweet]
I went to the benefit concert for Mike Smith at B. B. King's club in N.Y.C. in 2005 featuring The Fab Faux, Billy J Kramer, Peter and Gordon, Denny Laine and The Zombies. They filmed it for a DVD but was it never released. One of the finest music experiences this old guy ever had. Thank you Paul Schaffer .
It was my daughter that alerted me to Mikes predicament next door. She was only three at the time and heard his cries for help. Mike was a good friend and neighbour. I miss him.
@@SpaGuy It’s fine. Charlie came round and gave my daughter a dolly. I still have all the newspaper cuttings. My daughter is now 24 and has a masters in acting.

Arlene such an Indiana Angel! Years later hook-up deserves a book/movie! True on Elvis being impressed with Mike Smith and group, Vegas hangers on confirm that.
Mike Smith of The Dave Clark 5 -- a rock vocalist who deserves to take his place alongside the great voices of rock history: Elvis, Lennon, Jagger, Morrison, Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, McCartney, Joplin, Grace Slick, Dylan, John Kay, Levon Helm, Dion, Bobby Darin, Roger Daltry, Robert Plant, Jack Bruce, Eric Burdon, etc... Unfortunately, like the legendary singer of the Righteous Brothers' Bobby Hatfield, a solo career never blossomed for either Bobby or Mike -- the way it should have. Arlene -- great personal story. Heartbreaking since I admired Mike so much as a singer. Enjoyed listening to you. I can see why Mike loved you so much and sought you out.
She said in the interview her Mother was a proper lady. I see that was passed on. This was very moving. Mike Smith could sing like a Whippoorwill too. Bless.
