You should pull up the video of Baz interviewing Elvis’s childhood friend Sam Bell on RU-vid. It’s about 24 minutes long and really interesting to hear Sam describe Elvis being a white kid surrounded by blacks and attending black churches. Sam’s mother or grandmother loved Elvis because he was so respectful of adults even black folks. Always called her ma’am which wasn’t expected at that time in the 1940’s.

Hey, thanks for your great reaction. I am a child of the 50's and saw the abuse that Elvis took. I was 11 when he performed on Ed Sullivan and my father would not let me watch him. So as you might imagine I am a Ultra fan!! I have seen the movie 3times, it was good the only thing I miss is seeing his crazy sense of humor and the practical jokester he was. Also his gospel music side, after doing 2 shows a night he would then sing Gospel till dawn. He said it calmed him down and made him peaceful. I am so glad you enjoyed the movie, at 78 I still love Elvis, and always will. Be Blessed

I left 3 links for you in the comments section of your reaction to Elvis "Hound Dog". (My apologies for not putting them here but it's getting late where I am & I'm tired.) My quick honest assessment of the movie: Yes, there were some historical inaccuracies. Yes, artistic license was taken. So from an Elvis fan perspective I get it. I get why some aren't going to love this movie. That's to be expected. BUT from a non- Elvis perspective, I think the way the movie was done was the only way it could be done to attract new people to Elvis and to dispel the untrue things that had been written and said about him. There were some things I would have liked to see in the movie- his acts of generousity for one. I would have liked to see at least one rehearsal interaction of Elvis and his band and his backup singers. However, this movie, I think, packed the punch it needed to to breathe new life into Elvis, his music, and the stuff he went through. This is not your traditional biopic. I loved it. Colonel Parker was slimy. First, he was no colonel. His name was not Tom Parker but a Dutch illegally in the States. He was kicked out of the army on a psychological discharge. Many have put forth the idea that there is even circumstantial evidence that he fled Holland after a murder. All of this info can be found on the online site Smithsonian Magazine.

Sam Bell has a lot of fun facts about Elvis who was a neighborhood pal. Sadly, Sam died last Sept. and never got to see how Baz used what Sam told him in the movie.
The movie was wrong about Elvis knowing that Parker was an alien, and he never would call out the Colonel while on stage in Vegas. Although there was a 1974, performance in College Park Maryland, where he brought up that it was falsely reported in a newspaper that he used drugs. Elvis denied it, because he didn’t consider the drugs prescribed by Dr.Nick to be drugs, because they were legally prescribed. His final televised concert was shown a few months after he died, and fans like myself were shocked how bad he looked at 42. You see, Elvis was vain and obviously he was really hooked for him to appear looking that bad. I will say, that most of that show, while he no longer moved as well, he did a lot better than Unchained Melody which was sung at the end and he was tired and uncharacteristically all tuckered out. His Vegas yrs, he did lots of popular ballads and love songs, and he always including at least 1 gospel number.
Your post was wrong. Elvis never knew Parker was an alien and when he was told, he certainly confronted the colonel and fired him! elvis appeared heavier than normal at the end and I saw performance clips of him slurring his words badly while speaking but he still sang wonderfully. As for the movie firing, Elvis did fire him behind the curtain in the movie it was not in front of the audience. It was dramatic because we viewers needed to hear elvis's hatred of appearing in Vegas by that time. He was sick and very tired of it. The movie had to address it up front and the argument at the end was exactly right, that happened about the money owed to Parker according to Jerry, his friend. Elvis was shocked at the colonel not being US citizen. Elvis was a patriot and he was forced to take the colonel back for financial survival. Where he fired him is less important than the fact that he DID FIRE HIM AND DID NOT WANT HIM BACK. He had wanted out for a long time.
It would be impossible to include everything elvis ever did. That's what documentaries are for. And even then, a lot is left out. Baz said he's got more than 4 hours worth to edit into a directors cut. Even then you would complain I'm sure.
If you want an in depth look at elvis then Elvis the Searcher is exellent . I have seen the movie its epic Now Col Parker wasn't as bad as he is shown . Yes he held elvis back in the70s but elvis did not know about his illegal status . Now remember although elvis movies mid 60s were not great .he got paid 1 million per movie . The 50 50 split was agreed in 1973

@@lifeissweet9826 in the 50s it was 50 50 on merchandise but 70 30 to elvis on song revenue but in 73 after his divorce Parker and elvis sold his back catalogue to RCA . They got well paid but split 50 50 after that . Luckily I think in the 90s the estate made a deal with RCA to get the songs back or a profit from the songs I think
IMO movie as a whole 9.75/10. Austin Butler's performance 1 billion/10. He didn't impersonate Elvis, he reincarnated Elvis. Already seen it 3 times, and booked for 4 more times through next Tuesday. What bothered me about the time was saying he was an "animal" and "sinking to the level of the negro".
