Just recently found this channel and have been watching through some of the old videos. Just wanted to say you're definitely not alone in the hating being under water. I almost drowned in a pool when i was younger and i still hate being under water or somewhere my feet can't touch the bottom. I can't swim for the life of me even though i've tried and taken a class for it, I swim like a rock and go straight to the bottom🤣 i related to more of this podcast than i care to admit to the internet... but the fact some people are brave enough to be open like this blows my mind. Hopefully anyone that sees this is having an incredible day/night and sending hugs to anyone that wants/needs them🤗🤗🤗

How come I started listening to this podcast with no major emotions inside of me, just listening to your voice while making dinner, eating my dinner and when I went back to my cross-stitch by the end of the episode I was about to cry? In 40 minutes you made me realize that I was not, in fact, ever!, kind to myself. Thank you. Now I'm gonna go cry in the corner and try to be nicer after I will wipe away my tears :)

My BF did a rehab a while back and they explained to him that alcool and pot are addictive to people who have problems with dealing with their emotions. I'm generalising here, but they said that people start being addict to alcool to suppress unwanted or overwhelming emotions at adolescence, so they never learned how to properly deal with those emotions. I'm sure it's not a copping mechanism for every addict or that is the case for you. But I find this explaination fascinating and being in close contact with alcoolics, it explain a lot for me. I hope you are well surrounded and find clever tools to deal with your chalenges. 💜

I really enjoyed this episode when it first aired, and again listening today. It’s interesting to relisten a few months later and notice what all has changed in ourselves, from a different mindset. Thanks again!

As an introvert that 'lives inside my head' a fair bit, I have many times missed seeing the external 'trees' that slapped me down but I always struggled and got back up and kept going ..until my husband died. Then I just hid inside myself for several years, afraid I wasn't enough and stopped trying. Then I came across your channel Stuart and your bravery, encouragement and vulnerability gave me the inspiration and courage to keep going on my journey. You have no idea how many people's lives you have changed for the better! Thank you so much Stuart! xo

I used to prefer being underwater. rather be there than anywhere else. Id paddle in the north sea at 3am in winter. And then after snorkeling in the sea in kefalonia i went to dinner at my friend's taverna and they brought in the 8ft shark theyd fished in the same bay id been swimming in, in and hung it up to prepare it for cooking. Now i freeze up if i try to paddle and its an effort to not have a panic attack putting my face in the water. Sometimes it even echoes in the shower. Didnt know there was a name for it tho and if i do manage to get my mobility back, Ill be back in the sea if it kills me lol.

The pain of change has to be less than the pain of staying the same, has been one of my favourites for a long time. These days I extend it with "and that's why numbing any pain, stops any change". It helps keep my sobriety, my macros and my singledom on track. Without a protein intake of 35% everyday, I have zero impulse control on anything and medicating with people isn't who I want to be.

3 things: compassionate, kind and eloquent. Although they're always chased by... but I could be better at extending them to myself enough that extending them to others in times of stress is more reliable.

Thank you for the company. I could listen to you talk about philosophy and self improvement without end. I didn't know my purpose until I learned how to feel in my mid 30s. You are so far ahead of the curve lovely ❤

Hope yer not there by yerself. It can be embarrassing to have a witness to witlessness, but on the other hand it could save your life. I keep a plethora of upper end life vests on hand that wont slip off. (Boat family). Might want to invest in 1 for these special occasoons that you describe on repeat. Sabotage your sabotaging tendencies. Good Luck. Off to take a nap in a shallow tub of Hot water I am. Until next time, best wishes from Oregon, USA
