Neat video! Spring in Northern Michigan looks so pretty! Train ain't bad either!

These old trains always give me bittersweet melancholic and some kind of spooky vibes. These lonely tracks laying peaceful in the innocent solitude and one can not tell whether they are solely testimonies of long forgotten times until suddenly they start to hiss sinisterily foreshadowing an eery doom before the old lady slowly creeps around the bend, warning gently and steadily from her inexorable dreadful desire until she rolls past groaning but proudly already the far distance in view no longer being a threat but a bittersweet farewell leaving you in wanderlust in the peaceful middle of nowhere.

In Illinois, the rule used to be that the railroad didn’t have to install lights or gates unless the crossing was “dangerous.” The proof of danger was a body count of victims. IIRC eight fatalities was the threshold. If it took decades for the eighth victim to perish, the railroad didn’t have to spend the money. One dark winter night in my home town,a bus load of students plowed into a train stopped across the highway in a 65mph zone. The railroad got its body count in one fell swoop. They put lights in shortly thereafter.
