I’m a long time fan of Nick Drake…it’s been really interesting to hear these interpretations. Like I’ve seen many comments say “Nick would have been proud”. I am sure he had no idea what he would become to music. So sad he’s gone.

I've been listening to Nick Drake for 40 years and I am a music snob ! I think Emeli has nailed this song!!! Not may covers are worth the breath but this has been beautifully transposed, Much love

It is different. Does it bring out a new aspect of the song? I like Sande's voice normally but this production negates the song's emotional charge, sadly.

He may have been proud but as a long time fan every cover version I’ve heard from this album so far has been awful. Particularly this one and Aldous Harding “ three hours” , they’re more like insults .

I disagree, I think you are too attached to the original versions. The point is not to compare these interpretations to the originals but to attempt to enjoy them for what they are. That is what Nick would do, I think :)

@@TheStuF that’s the point of a cover version , to be different to the original. Some people occasionally do something wonderful but for me these are all uninspired but some truly awful. If matters not. The fact people are talking about him is what matters.

Three Hours was excellent - one of my favourites. I can understand hating the covers though - it's easy to connect with Nick Drake's music on such a personal level that no reinterpretation of it can do the original justice. I'm seeing these covers as an extension of the artists covering it, and the inspiration that Nick Drake brought to their art, rather than a direct comparison to the original.
