I take you along on my nightshift in a busy emergency department in a hospital in London, from what we do for patients to my 4am breaks! I also go through why these late shifts are so challenging, but also why they can be incredibly rewarding.
Emergency departments act as the essential barriers to the hospital, ensuring all patients that come through our doors are given necessary life-saving treatment, or referred on to the correct specialty.
Since starting work in my department in London, i've learned so much and seen a huge variety of patients. I'm incredibly grateful to be working with such an amazing team, and hope that this provides some insight into the life of a junior doctor in the A&E department. 😊

@@mattbklee the transition is always the hardest. I usually tire myself out the day before I’m supposed to return to day shifts so that I get a good night sleep. I stick to a schedule the first week. No caffeine, no alcohol. Just exercise and loads of water.

That the biggest thing I find amazing is how Doctors, Nurses, HCA's ( Auxiliary nurses) porters etc cope with the shifts changes. When they do a 13 hr shift and extra hour is for hand over. I find the 1hr when the clocks change tough enough. If you are at a Doctors is anything to say to get the best out of the visit ?
@mattbklee
@mattbklee 3 года назад
Thanks Robert, it’s certainly challenging but all part of the job! I suppose when seeing your GP many of them are stressed with limited consultation times. The kindest thing you can do is to be understanding if they come across as a little tired!
