Fly with us to Aspen, Colorado on a beautiful November day. I describe how and where to cross the Continental Divide on our westward journey including go/no-go parameters for winds aloft. En route we pick up VFR flight following from Denver Center and witness every pilot’s worst nightmare: complete engine failure over unforgiving terrain. Mooney N4328H crash lands in the mountains near Salida, Colorado.
After offering assistance with Search and Rescue efforts, we continue onto Aspen where I describe the typical approach procedures on an abnormally quiet afternoon. Our flight terminates in a normal (but beautiful) landing on runway 33.
