EMERGENCY WELDING REPAIR // MOBILE RIG WELDING OKLAHOMA
Many clients will call with emergencies but luckily this call was for the following morning. I’m Austin Ross a rig welder and pipeline welder and on this channel I enjoy helping other through my experience and being a part of the welding/pipeline community. I started about early on with my own mobile welding business and pick it back up when I’m home off the pipeline. A welding rig is a welding rig and I might as well be putting my mobile welding rig to work. Today’s project is a farm implement repair. Farm welding is common for me when I’m home in Oklahoma. Farm welding projects and farm welding repair come up with my brother-in-law on their family farm as well as neightbors when have other farm and ranch welding jobs. Welding farm equipment is a fun distraction from the more regular jobs like welding pipe fence. Subscribe and stick around. Make sure to introduce yourself in the comments below!

I'm currently training to become a welder and discovered this channel yesterday. The format is great and you have a very likeable personality! I realize that this is a vlog series rather than a tutorial style one, but man I wish you had included some closeups of the finished repair job and maybe some commentary describing what you were doing. :)

poor diesels all over the world idle too much and get fouled up with soot because there isn't enough heat to burn it out...a phenomenon called "wet stacking". Diesels need to be working to stay happy and healthy. I agree though, the cummins makes sweet music!

Scraper hitches should be able to swivel, I completely understand if customer said I dont care weld it solid. But they are supposed to be able to swivel independent from the attached tractor or whatever to help in uneven terrain and to keep stress off of the tractor especially when unloading. Tips for saddling between use your jig to mark it out, draw a line at the center of the jig (were it splits apart or at the hinge) cut one side then measure from the bottom of your saddle out and that will give you the correct distance for between the pipes. Line up your length mark at the bottom of your saddle jig then line up your hinge mark and then you know you are straight. Great video as always 👍
@eaglemoose56
@eaglemoose56 3 года назад
That's the first thing I noticed. It looked like a round shaft that broke. The tractor pulled scrapers I ran on the farm all had swivel hitches. I suspect for a reason. If customer wants solid that's what you do. Otherwise I don't know if that repair ended being "the same as" original design.
@wailnshred

Scraper hitch has to be able to swivel at least somewhat, I don't know how you could grade without that.

Puddle manipulation is best experienced using oxygen and acetylene. Carry the keyhole. Also coping pipe, say handrail , just remove like a finger nail clipping and when you get it right you don’t have to grind before welding with 5P . Welding poor fit will mak you a better coper but by all means don’t undercut with the grinder when you are done🙏

Im really amazed how you guys dont use the Ringfeder eye type drawbar hitch which swivels based on terrain. Here in N.Z pickups can be registered as comemrcial but its more of a hassel due to having to keep a logbook. Its easier to not but here we have to make sure road users milage (diesel tax is kept up to date otherwise cops will fine us big.) Diesel tax here is $60.00 N.Zd per 1000 kilometers.

Union carpenter here, love your videos, carpenters union has an out of work book we can sign up on at the district council, but we are also allowed to seek our own work, which is the best of both worlds. I personally have never signed the out of work list in 30+ years, always looked and found work on my own, the main reason for that is like you said in another video, I am well diversified, not bragging at all, but I have experience in all areas of union carpenter work. I am also willing to do anything, even bridge work, which I hate.

Austin I have a question? When you do work like repair an impliment or doing fence work how do you figure out how to charge? Like do you figure your travel time, actual work time, supplies ( rod, gas, misc steel etc.) and do you itemize separately or do you just look at the job and say well this is a half day of work and have already determined you need to make say $500.00 a day to cover your nut including misc supplies, and determine from experiance this is approx 1/2 day of work. So that will be $250.00. That includes from door to door meaning I leave at 6 am and walk back thru door at noon. 1/2 day work. I am retired and have done it both ways. I am sure some of the younger guys starting out could really use this info. I also realize also the part of the country you work in also makes a difference and weather your working for say a farmer or a corporation. I lived and worked in CA. (Please don't hold that against me.😂)

we used to make a lot of our own template/pipe wraps from plastic milk jugs. freehand one and grind and make it perfect. then cut a strip from a gallon milk jug wrap it around the pipe and trace the saddle you cut on the plastic with a felt pen and cut it out with scissors. i used to have tons saved up from doing this and that.

I had a similar project like that years ago. A non farmer was driving the tractor, discing a field. He got too close to some trees and hung the 25’ disc on a tree. Completely ripped the tow bar out and messed up several gang hangars. I went out early one morning when it was extremely foggy. It took me an hour just to find all the pieces from the field! Haha. I finally got all of the pieces collected and spent 2 days welding it all back together. Legend has it that they are still using that disc. Fun stuff.

Ahhhhh si tan solo pudiera tener una soldadora Lincoln de ese tamañl montada en una camioneta. Pero en argentina nuestro peso no vale absolutamente nada por lo que montar algo así es extremadamente costoso.

Those Stanleys are crap. I have 3 large and 4 small. They are always failing. The best i have is 2 used genuine 1970's U.S made stainless "Thermos" ( Thermos was actually English) they are bilt like brick shithouses.
