Mandela was the last one to speak and sit at that end of the table . what are your thoughts on this case? thank you

Once he was the official leader, yes. Many official leaders who have a legitimate position do that. But, when someone is not yet a leader, waiting to speak for that long is not associated with future leadership.

Thank you. Do groups really need a leader? Have you come across some sort of rotation of a person inside the group who may be the contact on a shift basis. Or that is yet unlikely scenario. Would appreciate your thoughts on a group / team without a firm leader. "Leaderless teams." Has anyone come up with that term yet? Just a thought. Thanks as always. Best,

There are teams that are largely self-managed but informal leaders usually emerge pretty quickly. Teams with leaders are the norm.

@Dr.Lyon, thank you so so so much for all this content. I've shared with three other supervisors and managers at work. wondering if you could do a tutorial on how to present yourself as a leader in a zoom meeting? We've been all remote and have to adjust now. Thank you in advance. God bless.

Thanks Dr. Lyon, my EdD cohort came across your channel specifically around the Loose/Tight coupling review (SO HELPFUL!), and I continued on to view more of your content. I really liked this very easy-to-understand video on emergent leaders since our cohort is often in small discussion groups. Two things struck me - the method of residues which I feel is most naturally what we do in our small groups and the position at the table, which I expected the head of the table to be the leader. I am curious to know your thoughts on how this changes once we are in pure online environments, our discussions are completely on zoom and now position does not help/hinder a leadership position. It is also harder to judge a leader in an online environment since we have fewer social and spatial cues.

Hi, Laya. Nice to meet you. Good points about how leaders may emerge in online settings like Zoom. I've spent a lot of time on Zoom and I'm interested to see any studies that come out about how leadership functions there. I don't have any clear ideas or conclusions at the moment about but I'm predicting we'll see lots of studies about it in the years to come.
