Emerson, Lake & Palmer perform "Fanfare For The Common Man" live in Montreal in 1977. This footage is from the "Works: Orchestral Tour". Shot on August 26, 1977 at Montreal's famed Olympic Stadium.
Emerson, Lake & Palmer, also known as ELP, are a sporadically active English progressive rock supergroup. They found success in the 1970s and have sold over forty million albums and headlined large stadium concerts. The band consists of Keith Emerson (keyboards), Greg Lake (bass guitar, vocals, guitar) and Carl Palmer (drums, percussion). They are one of the most popular and commercially successful progressive rock bands.

Me too, because when I was 16 my friend offered me free tickets to see them in concert. I didn’t know that I’d like the concert since I didn’t really know a lot of their music. This was in 1974 or ‘75. I was young and stupid, but I always had good taste in music.

I'm 67.. I still almost cry when I see these guys that shaped my life.... They were the foundations of how I view music. They are the classical music that we will listen to in the future: Just as we regard Beethoven, Hadyn, Chopin etc today, these guys will be on every classical playlist in the future. I just wish I could be there to share the joy!

These guys are having a blast! As a guitarist who's played in bands I recognize what's happening there. They're right in the pocket. They all sort of gelled and hit the "sweet spot", and they don't want it to end. It's like some unseen force has possessed them and for a while they are truly one with each other! Almost feels like you're on autopilot. Man, I love that! I've been lucky enough to have worked with some talented and passionate bandmates and have experienced it. It's a great feeling unlike any other!

So seriously they have to perform half naked ... what a stupid gimmick. I think it is a real insult to the classic orchestra to have to support a bunch of show-offs like these guys. I loved ELP and have all their albums, but these drug addled loons really did not have to do this to make good music. Their serious music didn't sell so they have to spice it up. Like most bands then, and all bands now. When bands started to depend more on video than the music to get a hit that is when music quality took a drastic decline.

Saw them just once in the early 90s. RIP Greg and Keith. They were beasts in concert, and the loudest act I ever witnessed! It was an outdoor venue, free tickets, and a weekday so had to leave during the jam to “Fanfare” were parked out by the Main Street about 3-4 blocks away. -still loud out there!
