The young lady is practically dancing at the piano. She is not playing the music. She is the music. Amazing!

I saw her in Santa Monica CA about three months ago in a room of no more than 100 people, just her and a piano, no one else, and she sang, blew me away! I sat no more than 20 feet from her in full view of the keyboard, stunning in every aspect, best thirty dollars I ever spent. She played Rhapsody in Blue, and it was epic.

The depth, the suavity, the sophistication of her composition and playing are beyond belief! I cannot WAIT for her next CD/Download Album! We are going to see her in Winnipeg this Fall, Hugely excited! She's gonna play Rhapsody in Blue! Wa-a-a-Hooo!

This young lady started playing the piano since she was a toddler. Smart dad and mom to start her young to develop her talent. Such a blessing for all of us! She seems to love her talent too. Thank you, Emily😊🌹🌹🌹

When I hear someone with a gift like this, it makes me laugh at how people can say we evolved. God blessed this girl, it's truly a miracle that she plays with no effort. How does evolution explain this kind of God given talent? Just a freak of nature? Come on people.

Yeah, it would make me laugh when people said I had a gift when I played professionally. I would kindly tell them that I worked my ass off to get there. It's called PRACTICE. Hours upon hours upon hours of practice. No gift. Work...

If feeling a bit down, I just play Emily's music. Instant uplift!!! I love especially her "Original Music Medley with orchestra", "Peralada", "Soaring" and "Italia". There is a downside to Emily and this may be because I am English and unfamiliar with the American dialects. Her speech seems to lack articulation and I find it really hard to understand what she says. Judging by the way she makes her audience laugh in "El Paso" she is already a charming and entertaining personality in her own right. I just wish I could understand her words.

She may not be a virtuoso at the keyboard, but I have never seen a person young or old that is as musical as Emily Bear. Every note makes sense. In another RU-vid Video of her doing improvisations from suggestions, no sooner does the last word of the suggestion come out when she is playing a fully harmonized phrase or two of music that captures the scene verbalized a moment before. I have heard of such talent in Mozart and Schubert but never expected to see it in my life. Now I can believe those tales.

This is a young lass how has been taught to show deference to her elders and listen to the way they play. She soaks it up like a sponge.You have only to see how she watches the other players and leads them as well as following them.A natural musician and human being paying her dues.

Emily, I don't know if you ever look at these comments but I would like to mention a great jazz pianist to you. His name was Michel Petrucciani. He was French and was born with brittle bone syndrome. Despite that he learned to play the piano becoming a huge star. I think you would love his work!

Rather than compare her to Mozart, the name that comes to mind for me is Keith Jarrett, a jazz pianist who made excellent recordings of the two books of the Well Tempered Clavier by Bach (Book I on the piano and Book II on the harpsichord). Thelonious Monk is another name I think of--a great pianist and very prolific composer. Emily seems to really enjoy what she does. Watching and listening to her on RU-vid is a treat. So talented, so natural, and still a bit of the show-off she was at 6 when she was first on the Ellen De Generes Show. She looks like she has a lot of fun, adding to the enjoyment of those who watch her.

Your playing skills remind me of the best of Dave Brubeck's music. I have seen you grow in confidence and wish you the very best for what I see as a very bright future. I would love to see you go further in this musical direction. Bravo!
@effyleven
@effyleven 9 лет назад
Craig McLanachan I saw a rerun on BBC TV last night... a Brubeck Quartet mini concert that had been digitally restored from a 30 minute B&W broadcast of "Jazz 625" from way back when... (1964) ... Now, I am a Brubeck fan, and have been since those days, but Emily is a better composer of music, I think. Let's face it, I have had a long time to get used to Brubeck's choppy, somewhat percussive, style, which very often left the lyrical stuff entirely to saxophonist Paul Desmond.... ..... but Emily's numbers are consistently more melodic, while grooving like the very devil! I have to say, when a modern jazz composition has you singing along, AND tapping your feet like mad... then the creator of that music is doing something VERY right! Go Emily! Looking forward to your first appearance in the United Kingdom.

Now that it's been a year since the release of the Diversity CD, I thought about taking note of Emily's new compositions on YT since Diversity. Here's what I know about, although others can add if I've missed any: From this concert - 1. Indigo 2. Araignee 3. The Pretty Song Also - 4. Intro piece for the movie "Serenity" composed at the ASCAP workshop. 5. On-the-spot composition for David Greene during NPR interview. 6. Commercial for Weight Watchers; her "bouncy" music. 7. From the video at Hollywood Piano, however this is mostly improvisational.

Someone mentioned that a collaboration between Emily and Jackie Evancho would be something to see/hear and not having heard of Emily before had to check her out. She truly is an amazing talent and have to agree that they would be incredible together. A pairing with Holly Cole could produce some delightful results too.

I'd like to add that I also love her voice. Although it might not be considered a true singer's voice just look at Louie Armstrong. I consider her to be the full package. I absolutely love her music and playing and have since I first heard it and it had nothing to do with "look at this little kid playing stuff.. how cute!" This girl has REAL talent.

Believe it or not, there has already been at least one piano teacher on-line who posted one of Emily's compositions as an example of really skilled writing and playing of music. The teacher created a tutorial around it. This was when Emily was 5, using a song entitled 'Sunday Morning', she wrote when she was four!
@wisechimp6159
@wisechimp6159 10 лет назад
Even though she is a composer, from what I observed, is that many of the real great composers in 1700's and so, were not prodigy kids and they're music had a special meaning behind it which scientists could not understand, and even some scientists opened Beethovens head and examined his brain to see what made him that special, and not until years later is when they discovered what it was, but anyway, what I am trying to tell you, is that I do not think this girl is going to be like beethoven, or other great composers. Here I will compare her to some other composers She thinks she is the best, she is rich, and her music sounds like jazz Now, I am not saying that her music is bad, but what I'm saying is that her music has to get to a higher level so she can be a great composer like beethoven. Also most composers were turkish, German, Hungarian, or french
@brgilbert2

Squareorigamipiano You really have no clue, do you? And I am speaking from a musical standpoint!!! I will take the opposite viewpoint. Beethoven will never be and cannot be compared to Emily Bear. Besides Classical, Beethoven NEVER composed a single note of Jazz, Beebop, or scored a movie in his entire life. If and when he gets around to it, let me know!!!
@effyleven
@effyleven 9 лет назад
brgilbert2 Hang on there.... That's not really fair to Beethoven. He scored HUNDREDS of films, all through the sound movie era of the 20thCentury. He just didn't KNOW he had.... ;-) ... but you are right about Emily. She is an amazingly accomplished and wide ranging composer; and a very fluid performer, too. And get a load of the ease with which she handles herself. She is just brilliant with people! She recognises the informal setting, and conducts herself accordingly. That audience is eating out of her hand! Even when she needed help, she was totally unfazed about calling on her audience to provide it. Make no mistake.. That kind of self possession is highly unusual in such a young person, and contributes hugely to her charm... ... which charm has pretty much got ME eating out of her hand, as well.... (happy to admit it. Knowing about this young girl and her music has enriched my life. I am 68.)

Emily is mastering the trio format plus making friends in the String Bass community who too often is relegated to the background even in jazz. She must be taking ball room dance lessons as her tempo is perfect for dance music.
