@@alexisl89 I haven't actually seen it, but i've heard great things about it... unfortunatly i dongt have netflix but should i get one it'll be one of the first shows i'll watch
@@KimAhrina11 i saw both, but the 2017 version on netflix will always be my favourite, the old one feels nostalgic, but the new one it's amazing in its own way
Even in this day and age it's true. Now most women work full time but still have to do the majority of chores and childcare. That's not an opinion, it's reflected over and over in stats and studies
the not fetching water cause “he’s a boy” is literally something i’ve heard throughout my entire childhood. oh no he can’t wash the dishes he’s a boy. oh no he can’t lay the table he’s a boy. oh no he can’t help with cooking he’s a boy. and even the water bit too!! (when we were visiting relatives in the countryside). from then on i have a crippling aversion to doing anything around the house if my husband isn’t doing it, too. he can wash the dishes for three weeks straight but then i cook and clean for like three days and i get absolutely mad with rage. needless to say if we ever have kids, they are helping with chores equally regardless of their gender.
It's the opposite for us. My sister is the only girl and ny dad dotes on her so much. What worse is that the coz' "he's a boy" became "coz' you're the youngest". Which doesn't make sense at all!
@@Bachingchung It's the opposite for me. My relatives keep asking me to do stuff cuz I'm the youngest because when they were the youngest, they did the same. They've only been the youngest for like what? 2 years max? I've been the youngest cousin for 20 years, could y'all please stop.
Am I the only one here that has a brother and we always argue who does what but only because “why should I do it?Mom or Dad told you to do it.”? (I am a girl by the way, he is older)
There was a study where they found that girls get an allowance for doing chores like dishes and laundry but boys get rewarded for showering and shit like that lol
The period scene had me relate to it on a spiritual level 😌 remind me my puberty, when it just started and I have to get used to it.... feel like dying everytime... still the same today tho... 😫
I wanted to say no fucking way I’d get up at 4 to write, but then I remembered that I woke up last night and my first thing to do was to draft the dream while it was fresh in my mind.. so.. joke’s on me
I wish the movie actually based her character on how she acted historically. She was never called some outgoing feminist. She was reserved and most likely depressed. She kept to her self and spent most of her adult life writing. Before she died she asked her sister to burn all her work, she didn’t want fame or anything. When she died her sister didn’t burn them and that’s why we are familiar with her work.
The show looks funny but the reality is, I’m so sick and tired of shows trying to be modern and appeal to feminists. Women used to be very different and that’s okay.
This show was not created to be historically accurate. Majority of the people who watch this know that it's simply a comedy with bits of actual facts thrown in. If it were meant to be historically accurate it'd be on History Channel or something.
“he can’t fetch the water because he is a boy!” is literally what I was taught as a kid. the adults would rather have a 10 year old girl do household chores and lift heavy stuff and cook and serve food to the adult men, who were literally doing nothing but sitting around all day, watching tv. I did not mind it as a kid because I enjoyed helping my mom and grandma and spend time with them but as I got older I just kept getting pissed at how lazy the men were and how it was okay for them to be lazy but not me
Sure, its same in every family.... In every Country.... Every place is diferent. I were taught that hard work is for men. Only things my sister did was household chores (washing dishes, vacuuming...). And i did same, because we would split the work. But when there was wood chopping, carrying heavy stuff, doing things around house... That was only for me, sister had only chores. Not even cooking - was my job.
Dude what hailee does as emily Dickinson in this series is exactly what I've been doing my whole life in my conservative family. It's like watching myself talk wow.
Loved this series! The only thing I didn’t like was the constant theme of death because Emily was so full of life. but I know that they obviously did that because the real Emily Dickinsons poems constantly talked of death.
True. But because the thing they chose to make less accurate to the time was speech - it isn't too much of a big deal. And it also provides the advantage of allowing us to feel more of a connection with these characters. Which I think is brilliant - because while we may not have said "bullsh*t" using the same words, the feelings behind the word "bullsh*t" that we want to communicate would still have been the same. Other than the time period, it fits her attitude, it fits her age, it fits her social position but even if it's not accurate to the language of the time, it still communicates that she's pissed. Not to mention it adds a level of humour. Pretty cool, right?
@@jareththegoblinking3191 Whoops, my bad. Here it is: Other than the time period, it fits her attitude, it fits her age, it fits her social position but even if it's not accurate to the language of the time, it still communicates that she's pissed. "To have time to yourself to do what?" "To take dictation from God..." Literally, the best scene. That and her reaction to starting her menstrual cycle.
The part where she says "They afraid too teach us how the world works because we might take it over" is exactly the reason. They are afraid of having something they consider weak be equal to them.
“I got my period” *WHY IS THIS THE MOST RELATABLE THING WHENEVER YOUR RUNNING THE FREAKING MILE IN GYM CLASS AND YOUR WEARING LIGHTLY COLORED PANTS* heh, true story. Haven’t worn lightly colored pants since.
I love that moment when she's lecturing the guy about how women are treated unfairly on marriage. The women behind her is silently agreeing and laughing at her sass.
"Maybe they are afraid if they taught us how the world works , we might take over it ." Sincerely i haven't watched the show yet but this line is so powerful.
I like this show it’s just that it really doesn’t fit the era. It’s like 20th century humor in the 1800s- Oh wait. That’s exactly what it is. Edit: YES IM HIGHLIGHTED
When she got her period I was like GIRLLL SAME I remember just 2 days ago when I was peeing there was blood on my undies and I screamed and I felt weak and I felt dying 💀
when i have children, i dont want to make their life bad and a living hell, i want them to have a decent and happy life because everyone only has 1 life, and they shouldnt take it seriously, so let ur children be free and let them experience the best life that they could possibly think of 😃❤️ (dont make them spoilt though-)
I'd cook and clean I would be there when you want me and leave you alone when you want me to and smart enough to know the difference do the lawn take out the trash rub your feet do the dishes clean your laundry and bring up our children if you would only marry me and love me, except the gross part about is I am old I am deformed and I am poor the only thing I can offer is true 💕💕💕
