@@navinashokswaminathan3996 you’re talking like climbing down a climb is just as easy as climbing up when it’s not. That’s probably close to impossible to down climb unless you use the railings in the back which is probably against the rules for “safety reasons”.

I hate heights, and can think of two times in my life when I've fallen/jumped from quite a high height. Once about twenty years ago when indoor rock climbing. It must have been at least five metres, and the guy at the bottom caught me just before I hit the padding. But there was a rope on the inside of my elbow, which slid along my skin the whole way down, causing a rather nasty rope burn! I've not been since. The other time was a few years later, jumping of a boat in the South China sea with my brothers. It was probably slightly higher than the climbing fall. My brothers were loving it, but I was terrified. After two or three goes, I agreed to do one final jump with them. Unfortunately, whilst flailing my arms in the air, my shoulder felt like it was popping out - had I been on solid ground, I'm sure I could have just wiggled it a bit and that would have been it. Instead, as I hit the water, I dislocated my shoulder. And about two weeks before, I'd damaged some of the muscles in the other shoulder diving in goal during a game of football! Several years later, and both shoulders are still not completely better, especially the one I dislocated. So, I'd say it's definitely dangerous! Not to mention terrifying!

This was me at the top of a wall having the gym instructor, my friend, and some random dude all saying "just let go, the rope will support you!" Hell no! Lol Some of us just have this instinct to cling.

The psychology of the end is so interesting. Obviously these ladies know what happens if they fall during their climb, and that they will most likely be just fine. However it's not so easy to accept all that logic and jump off on purpose.

The people in this comment section are way too uninformed. There was a stair behind the top. Also, there's machines making waves in the water to massively reduce surface tension, making the fall rather safe. You can actually see their effect in the video. Lastly, to free solo above water is the whole point of this competition. There are tons of other climbing competitions with ropes, this here is however is without. Everyone who participates knows what they're getting into. And if the commentator urges her to jump it's because he knows it's inevitable and he knows that there are other participants who want to go next.

Why can't you just have a slide that goes down the back of the wall? That would be so much safer and way more fun.

Why do they have to put there hands in the chalk 10 times every time they do on move
@georgiosdoumas2446

To make their hands dry again, from the sweat , and increase the friction. Similar to what Olympic gymnasts do

The girl on the left before each movement a hundred times “lubricates” her hands in chalk. I almost bombed when she did it for half an hour. (I am Russian, and because of this, my little one suffers)

I felt so bad for her when she didn't want to jump, like couldn't of they put like stairs if you make it to the top cause if you fall it goes so fast that you can't do anything. but if you make it to the top then it's really hard for you to make that jump. And she's only 13 but wow is she impressive when shes rock climbing
