I feel like everyone was ready to hate on it, but it wasn't terrible at all. The track run from evil to guilty conscience 2 was crazy and this is his best since MMLP2 🤷
Imo this is a Great album. Yes, the tracklist does slow a little bit after Guilty Conscience 2, and maybe some of the cancel bars are repeated, but I feel like the highs on this album (Fuel, Habits, etc.) are just too good.
I’d say since Mmlp2, it has bad guy(his last verse is one of his best verses), legacy, rap god, headlights, Groundhog Day. You could even put Beserk and wicked ways in there too.
Someone said if you listen in reverse order, Slim kills Marshall. (Edit 14hrs later): I tried it that way. It seems to be true. But from what I hear both ways, they never really kill each other. There's definitely more to come.
Money pilled like Tony stark cause t⁰hat's how much I earn man (ironman) was funny Also the flex line about he don't know struggle no more he said that's a joke the elevator in his mansions broke lol sht had me dying
To be fair, listening to canibus is like Album 1: 'wow this is all lyrically fire' 😍😍😍😍😍 Album 5: 'wow this is all lyrically fire'😃😃😃😃😃 Album 10: 'wow this is all lyrically fire ' 😐😐😐😐😐 Album 14: 'wow this is all lyrically fire ' 😴😴😴😴😴
I feel it's really similar to what people say about Might delete later. The beats don't hit like bangers while the bars do so it gets a really mixed thought process on that.
I loved it from the production, writing technique and flow perspective. But content wise - I felt what hold it back is that it was just uninspired and recycled previous topics. However TDOSS did the same with a worse production and much less of a joy, so I don't get how someone can prefer this over MTBMB
there's a lot of great stuff, especially some of the deep cuts and the features is probably ems best roster of features on ANY album. that being said there's some pretty bad stuff on there
@@kekcrusader420 remember Marshall says he’s killing Shady by suicide so he is risking killing himself but when he wakes up he thinks it was a dream. My theory is that Marshall was actually killed instead of shady. After Paul hangs up with “Marshall” it was actually Shady who starts laughing. So it works backwards if you look at it that way.
@@kekcrusader420it's only a dream so it really doesn't interfere with any established timeline. To be honest it has a way stronger timeline than any Kendrick album outside of GKMC. People say damn can be played backward and forward but you have to really use poetic license to pretend it works
Always hate Eminem and praise Kendrick because they cannot criticize Kendrick as do to Eminem because is bad for white ppl's image, and praise Kendrick promote their image. Beautiful people think is cute white ppl criticize white artists and praise black artists 😂
Artist performance: Good? Good? Do you hear how this man is rapping on this record? These are some of the most insane technical performances of his entire career, which at 51 years old, is saying something. Say what you will about the album's content and lyrics, but there is not a weak performance from Eminem on this entire record. Even the tracks like "Bad One" that you complain about the "choppy flow," it was just a quick flow switch, out of about four on the last verse alone.
Who cares? It sounds horrible. Old em had less bars and rhyme schemes but made way better music. Em thinking he has to write 5000 quadruple entendres in every verse is the biggest misstep in his career.
@@sabus1265 but it doesn't sound horrible. There have been times on his past records where it does, certainly, but he kills almost every bar he spits here. His performance here as emcee merits more than just "good." This is insanely difficult and skilled rapping that he is making look easy, much like JID does at his best.
@@caseyanderkin1496Sure it is difficult, but it is less replayable in my opinion. I prefer a "i just don't give a F***" song than whatever this album gives.
@@STEALTHIO911 that's fair, but it doesn't take away from my point that Ems performance on this record is better than just "good." Jdgaf style is your personal preference. The fact is that Eminem has been performing these lyrical acrobatics now for so long that we just shrug and take it for granted.
@@caseyanderkin1496 His chopped flow is horrible and makes his new music damn near unlistenable. Fuel is the biggest night and day difference listening to JID (actual good flow) then em (trash flow). Idk why he does this it's so ass on Renaissance he actually chose not to chop his flow for once and it sounds 100X BETTER
I think yall really underscored the artist performance. The voice changes were super impressive and creative, and just cuz it’s Eminem and he’s known for it didn’t make the rapping any less impressive. Easily one of the best technical rapping performances on a mainstream album in awhile
recommendation of the day: Go listen to SSLP from the beginning to an end, then immediately go listen to this album. It's like listening to the born and rise of Slim Shady then listening to the death of slim shady. Trust me, your gonna enjoy it so much.
After Brand New Dance, I would be hella interested in seeing a Encore Director's Cut with some of the cut songs. Its TES level when you remove the bs cuts.
@KiddRyzeDaGawd praying for an anniversary edition at some point, like a revised edition somewhat close to what the original intent was. Nas did a limited vinyl of the first half of what I am was supposed to be recently. To my knowledge nas never finished I am second disc but i still hope he'll give it a crack again
To me, the purpose of the tracks after Guilty Conscience 2 is to show Eminem finally getting over the Shady character, being true to his himself and reflecting on his life and what he’ll leave behind(which makes sense considering he’s over 50 years old). With Temporary & Somebody Save Me, you get em being more emotional and discussing his family, the many problems he’s had throughout his life(like he drug addiction), and how he wants them to think of him when he leaves. In Tobey, he talks about his legacy in the rap game, and further points out how he gets disrespected by multiples articles and legends in HipHop. Bad One is him embracing the new style he’s built with MTBMB, ultimately doing what he wants and being happy with it. That’s why he switches to a modern flow and delivery, even the beat is supposed to sound like Music. Head Honcho is em thinking about the label he’s built and who he’s chosen to lead HipHop in a new direction after he’s done rapping. Ez mill takes up a lot of the song, so it’s em letting the new guard take the reins. considering the song’s called Head Honcho, and the songs features a rapper on his Label, I think it’s safe to assume him being the “Head Honcho” is him being the Owner. Maybe it’s not the most concrete narrative, but for me at least, that’s how I interpret the intent of the last 5 songs, and it works for me.
I think you’re spot on. That’s exactly how I felt about the concept. I’m personally a fan of the new “Marshall” or MTBMB sound. Slim Shady is old news and while fun and nostalgic, Em has matured and so have I. I don’t need to hear that shit anymore lol. At the same time it was rly cool to hear him turn the clock back though for likely one last time.
@@Man_in_a_Gucci_Suithow 😂 JID didn’t talk about shit but everyone gassed it cause his cadence and flow… and Eminem’s flow bodied his, let’s not talk about the rhyme schemes and lyrics too, it was not close my boy
This is a great album, songs are pretty well made, story is amazing, features did pretty good and Em had some of his best performances since Recovery to MMLP2. Overall Rating: 7.9/10
What impressed me most was this album really sounds like it could have been released after Encore. He genuinely did a good job of giving early 2000s Shady another album.
It seems like everyone is missing the fact that Em sampled different flow styles from most if not all of his albums. That takes some skill. Also that "stiff and robotic" delivery is unique. I personally like when artists try new and unique things. I think this album is a good balance of all previous eras of Em, along with new stuff. I really liked the album
loved this album, em one of the greatest of all time. At first listen i wasn’t a big fan of road rage and bad one, but with more listens i fell in love with road rage. Bad One is the only L for me. Best Em album since Recovery. By the way i joined the patreon love you guys
I took the Christopher Reeves track as a way for Shady to show repetitively show how diabolical shady is and how he won’t let shit go as he needed it to reference it in Guilty Conscious 2. As a stand alone, I’m not crazy about Brand new dance but feel like he wanted it to set up the content in Guilty Conscious 2.
as an albulm yeah its good. once more em isnt really an albulm maker now but as a lyricist the display of work is superb. Also Em is an excellent feature artist.
Renaissance was one of his best intros in a minute imo and Fuel was fire imo JID got Em cause of his flow but lyrics it’s debatable. Love the videos NFR 💯❤️
Completely disagree with ur opinion of brand new dance, u just dont get Eminem... 20 years later he put out the song cause it was a pure slim shady song...there was a purpose to having that track on the album
Weakest part of the album is Eminem constantly talking about how he's being _so_ edgy, and how he'll _totally_ be cancelled over this one! The old Eminem just let the bars speak for themselves.
@@seanlo8330 I didn't say hip hop, I said music. And even then, I definitely know more about hip hop than you since I'm not the one glazing just okay music.
19:28 I love this part. Em still is my goat. Yes, i hear other rappers more often, yes, his older voice is not as captivating as his young voice and so on......but he could rap like everybody, but for me, rap is still mainly about flow, rhyming words, technique, double meanings, punchlines. And he's simply the number one in that respect. Nowadays, style and being different are very important criteria. But for me, those aren't rap criteria. To be honest, I don't even understand how there can be a debate about whether he's the best or not. People can always say that it's not inspiring, or not for the streets, or too worn out, or they don't like it musically... or whatever, but he's the best rapper of all time. Sometimes I also think that people only hate Eminem because they're disappointed that he doesn't do what they want, because they knew he could.😄
Guys you got to talk about the theory that the concept of this album actually goes backwards and all the other stuff that's going on on X like 50 and dre mentioning that they had tracks on the album etc we might actually be getting another one.. And dude if renaissance is the outro for that one then i got high hopes for it ngl
@@JorgeRomero-dv3yk dont eat at a chinese restaurant if you dont want chinese. Em is em always has been. keep getting continually disappointed expecting something else
Personally I think this album was his most solid one since mmlp 2 it had amazing performances like Brand new song and dance, Antichrist, Lucifer, etc and I believe it really hit those emotional beats well to like point it will have you laughing, shocked and reared up with the emotional songs like some body save and temporary but overall it was solid like a 8.5/10
@@theshowdown9355 Why only one. He will never retire. Why would he he makes so much money of each album and rihanna i think once Said that he needs music to let out his frustration or something. He said on Godzilla himself he has no plans to retire. People been saying this since 04 and everytime its like Guess Who's back!
I can definitely see how on first listen a lot of people might feel it's much weaker than it is. Once the concept is tied up and the whole picture comes to light it makes the satirical tracks make a lot more sense
It does have its lows and i kinda expected it to be better, mostly wish it was less repetitive in the first half, but overall it still manages to be his best effort since mmlp2
A little disappointing that most didn’t get the album concept. The album takes you through shady coming back to life, kidnapping M and M killing him. But through the album it makes it clear that it’s all in his head. Shady (personality is trying to come back) feeding M drugs so he can take over and M letting people know that if he does that, he can’t control tshady(drug use) and he would lose his daughters.. But again it’s all in his head, since he’s the same person. And on guilty conscience he realizes that. This is why on Houdini he says “kidnapping never did happen” And if you play the album backwards it’s shady killing M
@WhyDidTheyChooseMe it’s not basic and it is going over heads.. people taught he dissed k dot, Cole and Joyner and you expect them to get the concept of the album? lol. And it’s fine, you can say fuck the concept. The songs are musically good. This is not coming from an Em fan. I mean look at hi hip heads. All praising the album.. even people like Joe Biden and Chris brown who don’t like him
I actually like the album less the more I listen to it. The Jenner , reeves “edgy” angels are too cringe to get through. Even if it is the “concept” . I remember when Slim was actually edgy. This out of touch version of Shady is kinda sad. This album proved the reason Slim won’t work in 2024 isn’t because of cancel culture, it’s because Em can’t do it like he used to.
Eminem is the King of Sequels: SSLP & Death of Slim Shady MMLP & MMLP2 Eminem Show & Encore Relapse & Recovery Revival & Kamikaze MTBMB Side A & Side B Infinite & Eternal (final album #13)
I loved this album and seriously impressive to see a 50 year old Eminem cook up something like this in terms of the concept and rapping ability. Great return to expected form.
@@TbonedoesfsxEm has a huge fanbase, I'm sure there's some people that don't listen to much rap outside of him, but there's a huge price of his fanbase that does, and with virtually every hip-hop great praising Em, it's always astonishing to me that the people who hate on him try to shape a narrative that Em and his fans aren't valid in hip-hop
Thank goodness you guess caught all of that on the next listens, I think this album is meant to be listen a few times to kinda get those underlying Marshal moments
The narrative doesn’t end at the end of guilty conscience 2. The rest of the songs r super reflective since he has killed the character and is reflecting on his life with the character of slim shady
