At last a movie which held my interest throughout. Donald Sutherland a real actor true to his craft head & shoulders above. Thank you.

It's funny to see this film set in Poland during the Cold War period where the protagonist, a disgraced communist leader, is subjected to what might be called clumsy state surveillance and reflects on this anomaly that has turned against him. Today billions of people in all countries (including supposedly democratic ones) are or can be monitored in real time with the help of smartphones connected to the Internet capable of providing geolocation data and being transformed into microphones and spy cameras without the owners knowing, but everyone thinks this is normal. Unperceived oppression is obviously much more destructive than that which is perceived. The West won the Cold War, but the total control paranoia typical of authoritarian eastern European states in the 1970s prevails worldwide.

I'm Polish old lady escaped from Polish Communism 1979 just when the film starts. My "prison brake" was as dramatic as theirs! Well done !

So lovely. Donald Sutherland and Anne Archer lead an intense cast in a rewarding suspense laden Bloc thriller, watch till the end, or die in Gulag. Thanks very much for uploading this movie!

Excellent film. Donald Sutherland is a fine and brilliant actor, believable in every role.

The times people where able to speak them minds.Very few still do,but much more people are affraid these days.

Really engaging movie, Sutherland finding himself in an almost Kafkaesque scenario, he and Archer are excellent. Good to see Paul Freeman in a good role.

Some scenes evokes me so much tough memories about the DARK hours of my country....during last years of comunist dictatorship...I CAN SAY ROMANIA SUFFERED VERY MUCH DURING THOSE YEARS... MAYBE MORE THAN OTHER " SISTER COUNTRIES"....

Gripping acting very enjoyable and good filming

This is a great movie with great performances by all actors. It very subtly depicts the terror the people of Poland lived in during those days.

Feels true (though who remembers anything about Lech Walesa anymore, save his moustache?) I preferred Don Sutherland in STEELYARD BLUES.

Donald Sutherland is always fairly good. In today's climate, I find this hard to watch. I'll try and finish it despite the sentiment.

1:32:30 - RU-vid was founded in 2005. There was no RU-vid and no RU-vidrs, American or otherwise, back in ther winter of 1979-80, seriously there were none. Nice research for this movie.

Intrigue , good script and subtleties and it has some truth about as based in pre glasnost Poland , look it up interesting both the film and real life. Title means items or power that can be removed for good of the country possibly with reparations , confusing as he is allowed back into the politburo. Donald Sutherland provides that air of superiority but also knowing his place in the game that ultimately out wits his boss. Good film.

I reiterate my recent post which is missing (look look !)For those who think that our liberal western societies are no better than the usual dictatorships (I’m not naming any this time), let them live under one of them and tell if the tastes aren’t slightly different. This kind of short-sighted wholesale discontent is what is eroding democracy, which needs responsible citizens to support and sustain it not grumpy finicky customer-minded beneficiaries. JFK’s famous remark still holds : « Don’t ask what your country can do for you… »

Why oh why do film makers put that dreadful noise , supposed music over the speaking , it totally ruins a great film .

That's strange as much as i remember i have never watched the movie. It is strange to watch it here in Switzerland...with my whole memory and story. That was great that people were intersted in Poland's history.
