Finally writing the general “story” I had in mind while making this. I’ve been really enjoying reading all of the interpretations, so I’m a little sad to write this (I love seeing all of the creativity and don’t want this “official” story from me to stop that haha.) But- for those that want to hear it- here goes! This is post PLA. After its defeat at the Temple of Sinnoh, Giratina frees itself from Volo’s influence- Volo has no more Pokémon to use to contain or coerce it back to his side- and it returns to the distortion world. Volo retreats and goes into hiding to recover before he can make another (more permanent) capture attempt. Meanwhile, Giratina has noticed a shift in the balance of the world of the future. There is someone there that reminds it of its own essence, the same sort of energy that emanated from Volo before his defeat- yet slightly different. Something that could threaten the balance of the world if not kept in check by an anchor… another half of a whole. Giratina finds Emmet in the future, bordering on unhinged, trying to find what happened to his brother. He loved winning more than anything else. He would not give up until he found him. It had been years. Giratina offers a deal to Emmet. It explains the circumstances of its life and that of Emmet’s brother. It declares that Emmet’s brother will be returned to him in exchange for his help to defeat Arceus, the creator it despises. Emmet strikes a new deal instead- one that Giratina can’t refuse. Giratina opens a portal for the both of them into the distortion world. Emmet waits for Volo (the man behind the space time distortions who Giratina sided with… and the probable cause for Ingo’s disappearance) inside. Despite Giratina being contained in a pokeball of his own, he can feel parts of himself being ripped away from being in the distortion world. He can feel the fleeting energy of Giratina pressing on his mind. He begins to lay down makeshift train tracks- miles long- from the weird foliage growing in the distortion world to remind himself of who he is… who he… was?… as he waits for Giratina to return and Volo to arrive. And yet even still as Volo finally arrived, Emmet feels like his other half has already been filled (or perhaps his half was partly replaced) with Giratina’s influence. An almost extension of himself-themselves?- he strikes a deal with Volo. Something more wicked than a simple case of revenge. Far more than the original intent of a Pokémon battle. They decide to use Volo to further their agenda to defeat Arceus. They are so alike after all. Volo agrees. His eyes catch sight of how powerful this trainer in white is- how pristine and unforgiving… his likeness to Arceus almost overwhelming- and he can’t refuse.
Yooooooooooooooo! This is awesome, everything about it is fantastic Man, sure will be awkward if Ingo has to take down his own brother...and by awkward I mean emotionally devastating for everyone involved
1:15 love how volo looks at emmet and thinks to himself, "GOD???" like yes indeed that is a verrrry scary pokemon trainer in a bright white outfit, standing?? on top of giratina??? he is smiling. his voice is monotone. HE LOOKS LIKE THAT GUY YOU ACCIDENTALLY GRABBED FROM THE FUTURE. you may perhaps be in danger
Something like this is what happens when Emmet gets sick of waiting for Arceus to return his brother and takes matters into his own hands. And as for Giratina, who would you prefer, an off-kilter train man looking to screw up Arceus' plans by stealing his brother back or a psycho who only wants you to get to Arceus? Volo was smart, yes, but he never expected Giratina to turn on him. He wandered the wastes of the distortion world for what felt like ages, not truly searching for a way back so much as for anything that may lead him forward. And then, out of the distance, something. Tracks instead of bare grass, strange metal things, and then, in the distance, a half-familiar figure. Similar to the displaced Pearl warden, with a billowing jacket and odd cap pulled low over their eyes, but there was one thing that set the two men apart and sent a chill down Volo's spine. Ingo never smiled.
Of course they are units with their ability to battle with pokemon it is possible that they have a legendary without difficulty, they have power beyond their noses
Emmet teaming up with Giratina creates the ultimate battle subway line the Infinity Train! Emmet should have been the true final boss of Legends considering that he has more of a reason than Volo to destroy time and space. Plus unhinged morally compromised Emmet against Arcus who do you think is really going to win that fight?😆
knowing that emmet is so skilled in battle that if left in the distortion world he would definitely be able to catch giritina is terrifying when he is unhinged as he is over the loss of his brother
I really like how the beats of the song are implemented here, especially at the start. Also Volo's smiles in this are top notch, please get this man some help. I think my interpretation is that this is just Giratina making some sort of illusion to manipulate Volo; we know Ingo's disappearance was due to Giratina's portals, so maybe it took Ingo's image to use after it teleported him, but the design came out inverted (like Emmet) when used in the distortion world. This most likely isn't correct, but I think it makes a fun dynamic--now it's Giratina talking directly to Volo, and it means Giratina was the one to offer working together, not the other way around.
*Ingo gets kidnapped by a wormhole, Emmet begs Arceus for his brother back but time and time again Arceus refuses to answer. Emmet, consumed by grief and rage contacts Giratina and gets influenced to the point his desires twist. He eventually finds Volo and decides to use him as his pawn in his quest to get Ingo back- not realizing it is his own actions that caused Ingo to disappear in the first place.
Considering that’s literally what Volo was throughout the entire game, whenever he wasn’t interacting with the player (minus the bossfight where he tried to end the world and forced the player into a fight to save the world)
Here's my story pitch: After the search for Ingo is called off, Emmet goes mad with grief and forms Team Tachyon. He has one goal now: Find Ingo, even if it means destroying the Unova region and everyone else in it.
Ohhhh I really like this more unhinged powerful Emmet who ready to out manipulate Volo & use Giratina just to get at God so he can finally have his brother back.
OH HELLO God I love this so much, especially the bit at 0:07 with the camera angle changing on beat it’s so GOOD! Not to mention the lyrics just fit shockingly well. Also Emmet with a slight Irish accent is not something I knew I needed until now
Isn't it kinda sad that in some shots, I think Emmet looks like Boyd from Psychonauts? HE'S THE MILKMAN! All jokes aside, I love this animatic, and the way it's shot, the song, the EXPRESSIONS, and the implied story.
oh this is BEAUTIFUL. The way you draw Volos expressions are so compelling!! His fear and growing hope are so amazing. The way you made Emmet’s grin so horrifying is amazing. All the moments of quick animation (like his red eyes) were really unsettling. The moment of Emmet bringing out giratina is AMAZING. The Arceus symbol behind him being reflected in volo’s desperate eyes is AMAZING. I love how in this entire animatic they always looked like themselves. Amazing job!!
I am extremely late to this, but holy crap this is a nice animation! (Or would it be an animatic?) I love the song choice, and unhinged Emmet is done really nicely when it comes to facial expressions, as is Volo. I love the idea that Emmet is so desperate for anything at all to serve for Ingo that he subconsciously decided "I replaced my older brother with Satan himself" (Also holy shit you introduced me to Devil's Train I'm going to have it stuck in my head for like the next week or so)

Oooooh! Hell yeah! This is excellent! I would love to see more of this! I've seen other fandoms play with this song before, but it never felt quite right when I've seen it before. But this is excellent and works way more than I would have expected! Really wondering what the hell is going on here. It's easy enough to figure why Emmet's here in the Distortion World, but I have no idea what he'd hope to accomplish by making a deal and messing with Volo. Not unless he wanted to kill God for taking his brother away or something. (Assuming that Volo isn't the one responsible for Ingo's disappearance that is. No way he'd try manipulating someone as nuts as Volo without knowing who did it.) Or to just make Volo suffer for what he did...? That would certainly be messed up. I think that the route I would personally go with is that Giratina is puppeting Emmet around like a doll. Emmet made some bad decisions of his own and now is working for Giratina whether he likes it or not. Emmet just figures... Fuck it. May not have much control over being involved in this pissing match between Volo and Giratina, but if he's going to do it, may as well have fun with it and go all in on being a villain. He knows he can outsmart Volo. He has all the cards. May as well make it a fun game while he's at it.
this was great. i can't tell if this is meant to be post PLA or the reason Volo is in the mess he's in for PLA, or maybe this is some messed up time loop, or Emmet is possessed, but any way you spin it!? I LOVE IT! great job!
How could you do this to me, make me choose between unhinged Emmet manipulating Volo or crazed Volo manipulating Emmet /pos I absolutely love Emmet being scarier (and taller) then the big baddie of PLA, makes me, a tiny 5'0 lil fella want to turn into a puddle of scared goo
Thank you!!! I did have a general "story" idea/concept for this. I just have really been enjoying seeing other people's interpretation of the events shown in the animatic, so I've been holding off revealing it hahaha! I will probably share it here soon though
