Sam Heughan plays the dashing Scottish warrior, Jamie Fraser, in Starz's telling of the mystical "Outlander." He joins us for a live chat -- and he's taking your questions. Post them here or tweet them using #askLATimes.
This young lady is the best interviewer I’ve heard. Does her research. Acts mature, asks great questions. Gives him a chance to really answer. This is one of the saves for me. Enjoyed it and thanks.
This is the best interview with Sam I’ve seen. It’s more of an in-depth discussion of his character. Yvonne is the best!!! Sam is a wonderfully talented actor and really brings the character of Jamie to life. He’s lovable, stubborn with an admirable character
A fantastic interview. The journalist presented herself very calm and prepared, allowing the interview to follow is course in a smart and firmly way, especially regardind the last two episode, and the way actors, and especially Sam prepared for those brave and well portrayed scenes. Sam, as always, very fast and smart, always responding in a coherent and coordinated manner. I wish him all the best and I hope his talent is recognized, because he did a great job with this character so loved, and, therefore, it could be difficult to interpret and achieve the unanimous approval of all people and Sam did it! Congratulations and this only the beginning... Saúde Sam!!!
Sam has such a zeal for his work and seems so unjaded. I love the twinkle in his eye when he talks about his role on the show. He has definitely embraced his character and the entire Outlander world, including the fan base! He knows what we want!
The interviewer is outstanding -thoughtful, intelligent, respectful of Sam. That episode should have been awarded Emmy awards... the depth and emotion of the episode is amazing.
Yvonne, you are a wonderful interviewer - your questions are intelligent, informative and interesting. I get the sense that Sam also enjoyed your questions, because his answers were thoughtful and personal. Well done!
OMG he just took a shower ?. :-P By the way, he's an amazing actor , he deserves an Emmy!. His performance on the two lasts episodes of Outlander was terrific!.
I have to say that this has been by far my favorite interview of Sam Heughan to date. Thanks for your terrific questions, Yvonne! Not being an actor myself, I was most interested in how Sam prepared for and was changed by the scenes in the dungeon especially. They were unbelievably powerful. Yet, I can understand why he was excited to tackle them as an actor.I also want to thank Sam for taking the time to go so into depth and really explain some of his thought process and the way the scenes were shot (and how that affected his mindset as well). This interview actually made me want to experience what it's like to have an acting career. Because I can see the huge amount of work involved, including press junkets, appearances, etc., it must be an amazing experience overall in order to devote to it so much time and emotion. What a weird and cool way to grow as a person. I really appreciate it so much more. So very cool.I'll have to look around and see if Yvonne has an interview with Caitriona as well. What a professional couple of actors. Honestly, I can't compliment them enough.
I think what you say is right...Sam and Cait too are able to lead us as a number of people into areas that we do not usually go at a time when this is needed...ie to have and learn what empathy is all about...personally, not just for those in the acting profession...this interview shows something more than just an actor doing his bit...Sam in an emissary from one place thats usually not very known about into the 'normal' world of you and I!!
Thank you for bringing our Jamie to life SO Beautifully!! Ep 15 and Ep 16 were absolutely most amazing acting I've ever seen! You and Tobias - just wow!! Love all you guys so much - #Emmys for Outlander!! God bless!
The interviewer was patient, interesting, clearly well completely in sync with every detail of the series. Sam Heighan gave such articulate and informative answers. The interview provided the podium for Sam to explain in depth the challenges and terriying scene he acted together with Tobias Menzies. He was the perfect study and actor for the role of Jamie. The series is just mesmerizing. Indeed this is an interview for saving.
Sam, I want you to know that I am so appreciative of your efforts to bring Jamie Fraser to life on the screen. Having read the books, I was very skeptical of anyone being able to bring that to fruition, but you have surpassed my expectations, very well done at every turn. So thank you!
What a gracious man Sam is. I loved hearing how they shot those Wentworth Prison scenes. I really wish we could get an interview like this from Tobias and hear what he had to say about getting inside Jack to do those scenes. I became a huge fan of Sam's through his bravery in playing those scenes out. Huge respect Sam. Huge respect.
He is an amazing actor! His performances are stunning! Episodes 15 and 16, episodes 7 and 9 on season 5, episodes 1, 6 on season 3, episode 4 on season 2, episode 13 on season 4, and so many other, his performance is superb. I love him! And he didn't get any Emmy or Bafta yet. I hope he 'll get one. I 'm sick of Hollywood! Finally, a great actor who deserves the best. And Sam he is so sweet, beautiful, intelligent, gorgeous man, so down on earth. I like that!
Good morning Sam, bravo is all I can say for your performance in the last 2 episodes. All the others were stellar as well but the range of emotion you showed in just a look was incredible. How difficult was for you to get in that mindset and then transition out of it. Thank you for your wonderful performance.
Hi Sam, I'm a Mum with a son close to your age, I often wonder what your own Mum thinks of all of this - my son laughs at me when I watch Outlander over and over again he even left me a vm message saying, Hi, its Blood of your Blood calling....
@A Cool Million Yes Ive been in Outlander world for at least a month to 6 weeks...I sometimes need to touch base in my own 21st centuary world...but one can easily not want to be in this pandemonium!! ..its good here though..hope you are OK too
DUDE!!!! It's really freaking me out how well you're suited to this part. I saw you in Emulsion and Heart of Lightness, and you were amazing in both. And even though the Hallmark movie was a bit cheesy, you shined in it! I'm looking forward to When the Starlight Ends. I know you're eyeballs deep into Outlander now, but tell us what you hope to do next as far as the movies? PLEASE say hi to everyone at Outlander! Hard-core Heughligan! Mel
You play "Jamie" so well! Are you like him in real life? Whom are you most like in the series if not Jamie! Thank you for being such a great actor and being so considerate of all your many loyal fans!
@IMB ---- Sam is a very SWEET & down to earth man. Not conceited,, very giving of himself to others. One of the things he started for the Fans was The Peakers program around the world. There are many people who are doing the exercises & eating right because of this wonderful program that Sam developed.
Hello Sam! You seem very committed to the Outlander story and to making a good interpretation of Jamie. The fans actually see you as the same person, as a fictional character come true! As an actor, do you also sometimes get confused, in a way, between your own self and the roles you play for work? Thank you and keep up the good work, I absolutely love you and the show!
Am so overwhelmed of this interview...got to know up close and a more personal way SH aka Jaime...and Claire my hats off for such a fine performance so in love watching the Outlander.. caught up with it just recently. (i lagged behind in the 17th century imagine?) Congrats to the both major actors Jaime & Claire pray you get nominated and receive Emmy here 👏👏...(shame if they skip your chance)
The outlander actors are down to earth regular people, they are excellant actors but they are the first actors ever to believe they havent see them selves as Gods just because of their success, God bless them
Hi Sam am looking forward to seeing you as an older Jamie. You guys are doing an excellent job, love the series, love the camaraderie, miss Rupert, Angus and Willie, can't wait for them to join you. wish i could send you a truckload of avocados. Take care, God bless
Yvonne ..you always have the best interview with Sam and Cait ! Well done ..xoxoxYou are very much at ease and they seem so comfortable and in tuned with you xoxo...Great job!
As a natural dirty blonde and portrayable ginger which do have more fun blondes or gingers? Go Redheads. Thank you for your wonderful portrayal of Jamie you really become him. But also are such a lovable person ...
Hi Sam! Thanks for all you do to bring our favorite "book boyfriend" to life :) Without too many spoilers for those who haven't read the books, can you tell us a scene you're most excited to film/have already filmed for season 2? And are you excited to be an onscreen dad? :) Much love from Virginia!!
Sorry, I'm early. I have a doctors appointment and I wanted to ask you a question. Hi Sam! I was really blown away by the fight scene at the river, it was so realistic. It look as though you and Cait could have lost your tempers at some points. My question is : How difficult was it for you to come out of an angry scene like that right into an emotional break down scene right afterwards? Thank you! (Fantastic scene :o))
Hi Sam, Thanks for taking the time to do this. We're all rooting for you to get an Emmy nomination! What characteristics do you think you share with Jamie? And what are the ones where you think you and him are totally on opposite ends? As an actor, how do you prepare for a character who has fundamental differences from the way you are as a person?
As demisexual I've never felt arousal when I'm just looking good looking guys, because I've always needed emotional bond to feel that. But when I found Outlander and Sam, that thing changed totally! He's just so absolutely hot and seems to be genuinely nice person too that it might drive me crazy some day!
We've heard and read the answers to so many of the same questions. What is the one question that never gets asked that you're dying for people to know the answer to?
Hey Sam. Thank you for the wonderful performance of Jamie. I will soon start reading the new translation of the German book and I'm so excited. I know so far "only" the series. I love to sing the theme song, my hubby is a bit annoyed about it. There is a competition, please push me the thumb, I have a strong competition. Has it been as complicated for you, to play Jamie at Wentworth in the last episode? Best greetings from Germany. So, now I'm singing again. ;)
Hi, Sam! Always wanted to know: Did you actually throw Graham McTavish over your shoulder during the shinty game in "The Gathering" or was it movie magic? (Just between us!) ;-)
Hello Sam...thank you for the wonderful work you're doing with your portrayal of Jamie. Even though critics and fans agree (and I'm with them) that you have done an amazing job..., for you personally is there any scene or moment from the first season that if you could do over, you would..either from an artistic point of view or just because it would be fun to do so? ...and I understand you are a great climber of mountains...Have you ever considered climbing Everest? Thanks again for sharing your gifts and your time. p.s. I know my name is weird - it's for my Corgi that recently passed away.
Huge fan of the books, even bigger fan of the series! Kudos to you all for a wonderful first season! Non-series related question-you are an avid hiker, have you ever gone geocaching? I know it's popular all over the world and really got its start in the UK. Thanks! Looking forward to the next season, and hoping the series gets shown some Emmy love!
Hello Sam, Greetings from Seville (Spain)! Congratulations on the work you're doing I was impressed with the final chapter, if I was read it awful to see him was worse. How are you taking the profound psychological change that occurs in James Fraser in the second season? (sorry for my english)
Hi Sam, Thank you for bringing Jamie alive for us. You do such a fantastic job! I'm wondering if you're considering doing any Shakespeare (I know you mentioned once you'd like to do the Scottish Play), now that you've been "baptized" by Diana Gabaldon and Ron Moore?
Hi! You and Cait mentioned in a recent interview that Cait dragged you to karaoke and that you hate it! Any particularly funny stories to tell? Thanks to both of you for being so genuine and awesome all the time ☺️ xx
thanks to exist :) 're a wonderful actor! How do you get so deep in the soul of a character? Your acting school should be exceptional, but the talent is within you
Hi Sam You seem very natural playing Jamie, how much do you have in common with him and how much is it hard to get into the character? #askLATimes Veronica - Rome
May I have a poster of him as soon as he appears on Skype? Holy Mother that bore him! Amazing actor, of course, but bloody gorgeous and delicious. I love Outlander, and I love Sam Heughan! Can't wait for Season 2!
He learned to speak Gaelic fluently. The instructor said that Sam spoke like it was his language. He spoke the best out of the Actors who had to learn it.
Hello. I have really enjoyed all the little 'Jamie' characteristics that you have included in your portrayal. I was just wondering when we will know if Outlander will be renewed for season 3.
Hi Sam! Congrats on your new movie. Do you see yourself writing, directing, or producing your own project? If so, what type of material are you looking for to be inspired by?
Hi Sam! My Name is Elke...I love your Show...you and your crew did an amazing job...I have a question: Do you love Cooking and what is your favorite meal?...Greetings from Worms, Germany!
Another question. From an actors point of view, would reading the book in addition to the script you're given be a conflict of interest as far as how you feel you should approach your role in the film? Or, at this point is it instinctual? You clearly "get" and understand Jamie in a way that it is impossible to imagine anyone other than you portraying him.
Hello Sam, you`re doing and excellent job as Jamie, my question is what is your second favorite scene from the first season of Outlander, we know that your favorite is the fight with Claire in the river. Thanks for your answer. My favorite is when you fight and defend Claire in the court when they accused her of being a witch with Geillis.
Hi Sam! I am from Germany and the Fanbase of Outlander is huge here! Is there a possibility to see the crew in Germany for the Start of the new Season? I work in a cinema near berlin the perfect spot! Greetings Juliane
In a later book, there's a celebration on the Ridge, and Jamie dances (sword dance?)---can you? Duncan gets points, but he wasn't that great, lol. Thank you for your excellent interpretation of JAMMF.
