Thrill is loved by many due to the fact that it was their first video, and saved the band. But on a scale of technical prowess this is about a 3 or 4 out of 10 for them these days. Add me to the group requesting the Manners/Black Hole live video. Manners is bluesy/groove rock and Black Hole is barely controlled chaotic prog rock (it shouldn’t work, but it does). You hear a lot more range in the vocals and get to see why many people consider Band-Maid to have one of the finest rhythm sections working today. But, almost any live video from the band is worth looking into. They really shine live.
This was one of their earliest songs and, good as it is, it has been far surpassed by their subsequent work. Also, this song and most early ones, was written for them. They started writing their own songs in 2015-2016, and their songs instantly became more musically interesting, and complex, than before. These days they are top notch as individuals and as a band in terms of technical proficiency and compositional skills. Trust me, I’m one of many old rock fans who consider them to be the best new rock band of the past 30 or 40 years. When you hear more songs you may come to think that as well!

Yes, Wonderland is a perfect song to react to next. That song truly has everything. It really shows the maturity of the group as a whole and showcases Saiki's vocals.
Keep in mind this MV was shot over 7 years ago they have improved much over the years... Checkout the live video "Manners and "Black hole" for a comparison. P.S. This was before the lead singer had polyps removed from her vocal cords. The surgery improved her sound for the better.....
This 2015 video was the make-it-or-break-it video for Band Maid. In fact at this point Miku couldn't even play the guitar since she thought she was only going to be a vocalist in the band. However this video did so well they decided that Band-Maid was going to be a successful project and that gave them the exposure and financial wherewithal to get started. This is before Misa and Saiki started dressing Gothic. Band-Maid is Jimmy Page approved!
Great reaction. Someone have already mentioned this, but Wonderland (Officially Live) really showcases the vocalist. It is also a very well produced video from a Live concert, which is where Band-Maid truly shines.
Greatest rock band on the planet! \m/ After about the 4th or 5th song, you probably won't really notice the maid outfits, only in passing....Lead guitarist Kanami writes all their music sine they were allowed to...afaik, and this song is not one of them... She's says she was heavily influenced by Carlos Santana of all people...so you're not really ever going to hear flash out of her ...she writes in just the right amounts, never overplays, everything is reletively shortto keep the listeners attention, and always appropriate.. She was the first Miku recruited....Miku writes most of the lyrics and is the founder...this is her baby...her vision. I can't help but admire the hell out of her....To recognize early on she neededa stornger voice and to step asdide as lead singer, recuit Saiki, and then lie to her to get her in the band! Such a great story....Saiki is what I call a"singer"...she not a vocalist...she's not going to blow your mind with her range or anything like that, but she can almost bring you to tears in a couple live performaances...incredible. It's the body of work thatmakes them the greatest rock band on the planet right now....keep going back, you won't be disappointed. lol :)

Saiki was in her early 20's with this video. Her voice has matured and is much better now. Miku can harmonise in both a higher and lower register and is on more display with their more recent songs.

I second this recommendation! “Wonderland” - official live video - an masterful composition and arrangement - truly beautiful - and then Saiki’s vocals are really special - she uses lots of range and different techniques - all beautifully executed. Sure, she’s primarily a rock singer - she’s not Adele, but she’s very good and you’ll see that with Wonderland
This video is like watching the beginning of what has become almost a cult. They all play brilliantly now. They have progressed and recently at Christmas did a acoustic concert which was as good as anything I have ever seen. They can rock or slow it down and play different types of music. They are the complete package.

The Christmas online acoustic show was as good as anything I've ever seen. It will be available through March with an archive ticket. Well worth the price of admission. Any of their official live videos on RU-vid are great with Domination and Freedom being standouts for me. Several here have suggested the Manners/Black Hole video. That's a good choice reflecting their genre crossing abilities as well as the direction the band is now taking. Welcome to Band-Maid.
Band-Maid has live videos with spectacle galore. One great example is "Domination". And as others have mentioned, "Wonderland" (live) is a great showcase for the singer's (Saiki) vocals.
This is their first music video, made when they were on the verge of having the plug pulled on them. It was posted to Facebook and went viral, saving the band. There's a lot of affection for the video but it really doesn't do them justice: the song wasn't written by them so you're missing out on the compositional genius of lead guitarist Kanami Tōno (and the lyrical skills of rhythm guitarist Miku Kobato) and it doesn't exactly stretch the instrumentalists. Since this the songs have become more complex, the playing more obviously technically skilled, and the addition of Miku's guitar as more than just a decorative element with which to pose (weird idea!) has filled out the sound. Saiki's vocal cord surgery and subsequent voice coaching has amped up the power of the vocals too.
This is the video that got me hooked on the band. They are so, so much better now. They performed an accoustic live stream show on Christmas Day and it showed just how talented they truely are. I'm 60 and I've never been in a fan club until Band-Maid.

Band Maid is a Phenomenal Band with such diverse songs all that are superb in their own right. They're a Band with songs that rock down the house and then turn around and sing a song that can bring a tear to your eyes. Like many here have said, hearing them Live is Phenomenal. Thanks for reacting to Thrill! You gave a really honest reaction and didn't fawn about the video simply because it was requested. Glad you enjoyed it!! Sorry you got a bit of heat from some of the "Maidiacs" that showed up, I was wondering whether to correct you about the difference between Band-Maid and Baby Metal or the Band-Maid members' names, but I didn't want to waste your time and I was worried a big re-edit would have killed that raw, brand-new audience vibe. Thrill is their first video and the tail-end of the budget for a struggling band so that's why there's no CGI or heavy visuals. Thrill is also the most important video in Band-Maid's career, it saved the band from getting fired by management and kept their bassist from possibly quiting, and not least it's their most watched video. So yeah no Thrill, no Band-Maid, and yeah it's the starting point of the 2nd part of their career and the transition stage for when they get more artistic freedom and improve as a band (they're pretty much Japan's most improved band).
Welcome down the rabbit hole. Fun fact: Miku was originally the band's lead singer but she felt she didn't have the chops to carry the band so they held auditions and that's how they found Saiki as their lead vocalist. Miku then switched to backup vocals and learned to play rhythm guitar. As far as songs that show off Saiki's vocal rang I would say: Wonderland, About Us, Daydreaming and Endless Story.

Great reaction. This is an old song for them, 7 years ago maybe. To jump to last year try the Manners and Black Hole live both songs are on the video, Sense is the latest from last month. A few other songs, Domination Live, About Us, Wonderland, Moratorium all live. Live because they sound exactly the same live if not better than MVs. There talent on these instruments is extreme and when they do live shows, like the Domination concert it is a true performance, lasers, pyro and etc...This song was written by the production company. But the last 4 albums or so, it is all them writing it. Specifically the lead Guitarist, Kanami and the lyrics are all done by the rhythm guitarist/band leader, all lyrics, including the band maiko kyoto dialect and the english lyrics. They mainly do hard rock and punk rock, though groove, rock, tossing in some jazz and a few songs stray into metal. Kanami really is one of the best guitarists, Akane is also one of the best drummers in the world and MISA is right up there with flea, victor wooten, and other greats. Checking your channel, I am surprised you have not reacted to Mamamoo, they are 4 of the most talented singers active today.
6 years ago “Thrill” was my intro to Band Maid and I’ve been absolutely thrilled by all their music, ever since. There has been so much growth in their music and they are now the best hard rock band going. Baby Metal are highly choreographed song & dance girls backed by a group of very talented musician dudes, so the comparison to Band Maid doesn’t hold up. Hey Michal, nice to see you reacting to Band-Maid. You should really check out SAIKI (main vocals) LIVE. She is an fantastic singer and entertainer... A lot of stage presence and rasp in her voice. Domination (for the rasp), Wonderland (that is SAIKI´s song) or something like that. She had an vocal cord polyps surgery round about 2-3 years ago, alot of training and since this point she improved a lot and her voice got just beautiful! Your watching the very first video from back in 2014. The evolution of this band to today is groundbreaking in every category. Every single one of these ladies are multi instrumentalists. They are some of the best In the business atm. Just keep watching . The Band has already worldwide recognition. They aren’t this little group. On the Baby Metal comment , you need to know that the only thing that you can compare them to is that they are from Japan also. That’s it, no other comparison to Band Made and them. Baby Metal is NOT an all female band as you stated. The only girls in the band are the 3 young girl that dance around on stage and the Lead singer who is the basic vocal presence all around. The musicians in the band behind these girls are all Men. Every single one of them are session musicians paid to play on stage with either masks or paint covering the faces so if there is a need to make changes on any of them it will be with no hassle and out in the next hired gun to do the job. Doing research is good when giving opinions and before statements. Phenomenon? Not so much. Phenomenon is kind of a once in a blue moon statement you made there . Baby Metal fits that category much better. The concept of baby Metal was made by executives at a record company as a concept of Idols singing Metal and gave it even a made up name to the genre as Kawaii metal .When the girls in Baby Metal are interviewed that’s how the y were coached to designate their style of music. Anyway ,overall a decent reaction. Hope you learned a bit more and the information helped. Listen to Band Maid live they sound much better live. Should be the next step. Try. My fault on the Baby Metal, I could have corrected her when she showed me the preview of her reaction video and I debated myself on that. But I wanted an honest reaction by someone who never heard of Band-Maid and if there was a mistake or lack of context, I trust that Band-Maid fans would correct her and be civil about it like you have. Besides I didn't want her to go back and waste her time by being too nitpicky about the details. I felt her reaction was fair based on what she experienced and it was a positive reaction from her so I took it as a win. As she mentioned in the ending, she'd like to hear more from the band. So if there's anyone else that wants to "toss a coin at your Witcher"...

For a band that formed as a kind of "oh I know this girl who then new this other girl". This band is a band of fate. On top of that the sheer curve of their increasing talent and professionalism is incredible. One of the most phenomenal of any band I know of in my fifty plus years of listening to music of all genres. Only good things ahead for these ladies.
Miku only started learning guitar after she fired herself as lead vocalist. They are better live, especially with a crowd. The official Freedom/Domination are great show cases of their stage presence with a crowd. The first 4 members were worried Saiki(lead vocals) might drop out if she knew exactly what they were wearing for their first live gig as 5. They decided to just say they would have something back stage and that it was cute. Saiki later said she might have backed out had she known maid outfit, but given how much fun they have on stage together now, it's obvious everything worked out.
This was not written by the band. The first couple albums are songs they were given to perform. The record company wouldn't let them record their own songs until they wrote "Alone". After that the ladies were given free rein to write all their songs. The latest song is "Sense". It's heavier and faster. Please check out the song because it shows their growth.
Hola Miki, great reaction. Be ready because you have no idea but you are scratching The Holy Grial of Rock...and we All know what we are talking about. This was 8 years ago and they didn't have the huge charisma and the enormous skills than they have today. Enjoy, try the live official videos and pick any of the songs, no problem. They are unstoppable and the Japanese Meteor is going to smash the Earth very soon and we will not fight this point as is going to happen. My beers are in the fridge waiting for the moment. Thanks Michal. "Thrill" got the ball rolling for Band-Maid, but it's seven years old and not representative of their recent work. I've never seen a band that has evolved more over time. They released an 2021 album in Unseen World that, if there were any justice in the world, would receive a Grammy. Last Christmas, they streamed an acoustic set was completely mind-blowing. If you want a taste of live, songs like Domination, Wonderland, and Manners/Black Hole would be good starters. If you'd like to see how diverse they can be, you might want to delve into their alter-ego band, Band-Maiko, and try out Gion-Cho.

I think you are going to react to Band-Maid more. So try these two pronunciation: Kobatoh (instead of Kobato) and Hiroseh (instead of Hirose). Anyway, we Maidiacs call each member by the first name basis like Miku or Pigeon and Akane or A-chan (or gorilla). Other three members are Saiki or Sai-chan (or Ice Queen), Kanami or Mincho (or Princess), and MISA or MISA MISA MISA (or barefoot assassin). The MV you reacted was made almost 8 years ago. So to check their most recent performance, I suggest you Manners (MV) or About Us (live). I believe you'll like her performance better in these two. I chuckled a little when you said that they seemed like they knew how to play their instruments. Miku, the rhythm guitarist, never even strums the guitar in this video because she had no clue how to play it. She just holds it or does cute little motions around it. As others have said, this is very early BAND-MAID. While I don't get into the idiocy of "best" this and "greatest" that, Kanami, MISA, and Akane are educated and skilled musicians that can do far more than what's presented here. At this point in B-M's existence, they were very much under the thumb of their old record label. Songs were written for them, and the five ladies didn't have much input into or say in the creation process. They'd earn their *freedom* later and write much more complex stuff. Their work ethic and song quality would earn them their first show at Budokan in February of 2021, but that was heartbreakingly canceled due to the pandemic. "Thrill" is important for the maids and their history, but it's an odd choice to chose as an intro for someone who is primarily a vocal coach. The live version of "Domination," "Wonderland," "Daydreaming," and "About Us" would all be better choices.

This was their international breakout MV. After it was posted on Facebook, it got 2million views in 2 weeks. A first they thought it was hacked. Not only was it for real, about 45% of the views were from Europe and the US. They were struggling as a band and close to breaking up. While they did not write this song (Miku did write some of the lyrics), they now write their songs. They have regularly toured the US and Europe since 2015, with 5 sold-out concerts in the US in 2019. The maid costumes are to create "the Gap", meaning the difference in what you see, demure maids and what you hear Hard Rock. Very popular in Japan. Kanami (lead guitar) writes the music, Miku (founder, rhythm guitar) writes the lyrics. This was 8 years ago and they have come so far in the intervening years that they are now THE best Rock band on Earth. Literally no bad songs. This is really just a starter song and their newer stuff is so much more evolved than this in every way. Afterlife, Warning, Manners, are some of their newer stuff. Their early stuff had their lyrics written by a third party but their last two albums have been with only one exception written by the rhythm guitarist "Miku". For vocals I'd probably do "Manners". For instrumental I'd do "Warning". They also do have live video's that show the "spectacle" though not as big as Baby Metal as they didn't have near as much starter money as them. The two groups formations are about as far removed from each other as you can possibly get.
Actually, they have written almost all their music from just bring it on, not just the last two albums. But you are right, everything since just bring it has been much more advanced.
If you read up on them before listening to a band, you aren't even close to going in blind. They didn't write these first 3 albums (This is the first song off of their first album) Every album, whether it was written by them or not, is amazing. You will NEVER hear a bad song by them, especially if you are trying to nitpick. They are incredible.
If you turn on CC, you should see English lyrics. I recommend the live video of Domination, recorded at the close of the Before Time, to get a sense of their concert spectacle. Then the live live-stream recoding of Manners and Black Hole to get a sense of where they are today. Pay particular attention to Miku’s harmonies. Then go back to the concert video of Wonderland to hear a beautiful ballad.
This is hard Rock with pop punk and metal influences that is Band maid! as you go on as they have grown you will find that they are great at their instruments IE Misa on Bass Kanami on lead and Akane on drums. I have seen Zeppelin live and all the other greats and these young Women make me smile they are great over 100 great songs I have purchased every piece of music that I can get my hands on,They are even better live I am gonna sub just in the hopes you do more BM Have a great day!
This will be a very happy rabbit hole for you to go down. Thrill is very early in their career before they took the reins in their hands, musically & lyrically.
Besides Baby Metal and Band Maid, you may check out Nemophila, another all-female Japanese rock / metal band. Their hardest songs are "Dissension" and "Revive".

Very early maid, and not representative of the skill levels they have now reached. This video is well loved by fans because it's the first thing we saw them do - but whatever you do, make sure you check something more recent and live. Good choices would include the LIVE VERSIONS of Domination, the combination of Manners/Black Hole to see their ability to play completely different styles, or the MV's of Daydreaming or Manners to see the lead singer belt out something glorious. Their best skill is their songwriting and arranging (which is saying something because their current skill levels are crazy good) - and Thrill is before they started writing their own songs. It's not available on YT, or I'd recommend something off of the acoustic set they just put out. You can still purchase an archive, so for if there are any Maidiacs out there that are hesitant to part with the $, I promise you you will not be sorry! It's a true showcase for Saiki, Miku and MISA.

The label kept them on a leash back then. They write and perform their own music now. It's way better. And their live performances are the best. Check out Manners/Black Hole live.

My fave band, thanks! I love when the vocals are not kawaii but rather full chest, suitable for hard rock. Btw the contradiction between music and the image is a thing and called "The gap"
Whereas Babymetal USES a band in their performances, Band Maid IS a band. You might also try Lovebites, another Japanese all girl "metal" band, especially if you're interested in some outstanding musicianship and a unique powerful belter (English lyrics). Lovebites was awarded the Best New Band at the Golden Gods Awards in 2018 by Metal Hammer Magazine in London, and also played at Waken that same year.
B-M can't really be compared to BabyMetal IMO. The latter fuse j-pop with modern metal and theatrics/dancing, while B-M began with a classic hard rock sound that appealed to old rockers (those grumpy Zeppelin/Purple fans) as much as it did to young folks. But nowadays their sound evolved much further than Thrill, although we still love that song. They are my favorite rock band of the 2010s, not only for the songs but also their miraculous story and personal growth.
This is like looking at their baby photos. We aren't ashamed of it but it's just a shame that you aren't seeing what they really do. A voice operation and some great song writing have transformed them into the best rock band in the world . Try BLOOMING,DICE,the live version of WARNING or their covid song ABOUT US. well over 100 songs to choose from . Very rare to get a copy write strike from band . Another great all girl Japanese band is NEMOPHILA. They are as good as BAND-MAID but heavier . Please do BAND-MAID again. They are in their 30s now it's a lot more sophisticated.
OK well first babymetal is not an all girl band it's an all male band with three girl front singers so there cannot be any comparison but you just witnessed your first lesson in the living legends known as band maid and no gimmick just raw talent
Thnks for the reaction. As much as I love "Thrill", but this song is nothing near representative of what they are capable now. This was Band-Maid in their infancy 8 years ago. They´ve come a long way since then and are, for me, the best rock band in the world right now. and P.S. it´s right, BAND-MAID and Babymetal are both from Japan. But that´s where the similarities end ;-)
