Empire at War Remake in 2022 is FANTASTIC! 

So many years later and this game still has one of the best communities out there. I love Empire at War.

Awakening of the rebellion is my go to empire at war mod for the simple fact it has close air support. Plus the mod is just all round fun. Not to say that the other mods aren't fun, it's just that awakening of the rebellion shines more than the others for me.

Literally feels like a new game when I play this. The new ground combat is simply amazing. The AT AT's have weight to them now and those blasters are devasting.

I've been getting back into these old RTS games. I got into them with what's considered the first traditional RTS. Dune 2. New movie is out and I think it's time for a new Dune RTS.

i was just randomly wondering about whats the current state for empire at war right now and just typed "empire at war" and i found this video. i cannot believe the coincidence between my thoughts and how super recent this video is!

Back when I was editing other people's mods for my own use, I had my own fix for not being able to see the more miniscule units. Just scale them up in the .xml code. The mod's scale may be lore-accurate, but I'll sacrifice lore for functionality in a game like this.

You should try out awakening of the rebellion. It has the most in-depth gameplay out of all the empire at war mods

Ironically, when EaW Remake came out, the fact that the changes where so small, and so much of the vanilla EaW was still there, made it one of the best mods, compared to other mods that just spammed you in content, and now with 4.0 this mod became just another of these bloatet mods for EaW.

Unfortunately, the most unfortunate thing is that we have to wait for the 5.0 version because the ground hero has not been implemented yet.

My dream game is Empire at War combined with Star Wars Rebellion. If you haven't checked that game out, give it a watch. It looks cheesy but it's actually a really deep game that was only missing the space and ground battles of Empire at War.

i played almost every mod in existance for this game and it never ceases to amaze me how good almost all of them are awakening of rebellion, thrawns revenge and the clone wars mod from thrawns revenge dev team is so damm good

I played the Legacy mod - absolutely love it Plus I like to make changes to it As in a nuke bombardment, Sith and Jedi being god like unless versing outnumbered odds, bombs, and a planet shattering Death Stars I also give factions sharing capital ships so space battles become interesting - have you faced off with Rebels with Star Destroyers? Empire with Mon Calamari capital ships? Jabba the Hutt with a Super Star Destroyer?

Republic at War is my fave. The gameplay is awesome for me. Love the Clone Wars era and it provides a nice little challenge in hard mode, constantly making me change up strategies to combat the massive fleets that star battering my planets defenses. But one of my favorite bits is the sound FX, the music just leaves me in awe while plotting my strategies for my war.

Thrawn's Revenge just had an update and it slaps

i remember getting this game for my new windows xp pc back on release, i never knew the game was still active today especially these mods, i cant wait to dive in to this!

Ah yes the good old camera battle that you sometimes get into while trying to launch a mod. I have run into that problem more times than I can count. I just press escape until it shows the result screen and try and launch the mod again. Sometimes its caused by double clicking the mod and other times if you click launch. If one option gets you into that problem try the other, that usually works.

Good, now lemme pitch Awakening of the Rebellion to you. While AOTR doesn’t feature the graphical fidelity of Remake, nor the expansive campaign maps as Expanded, it does a wonderful job with its the superior gameplay mechanics. Heroes, Space Tech, Space and Ground combat, and Economic mechanics have all been reworked to further the learning curve for EaW’s mechanics. Every single unit in AOTR has a purpose that never gets robbed from them even when you have higher tier units to pick from. Ground Combat challenges you to work with new buff/debuff elements. Space Combat features a one-of-a-kind Hardpoint system, destroying weapon systems of a Capital Ship won’t fully destroy it! Heroes are made incredibly valuable due to their small but otherwise impactful stat buffs they give to friendly units. Tech Upgrades are now destroyable stations, meaning you’ll need to plan your defenses around them in order to maintain your high tech units. AOTR is nothing short of a masterfully made EaW mod, that legitimately challenges you at every turn. And I believe well worth it for you to cover it in the near future.

I am not a fan of how they do larger unit masses under one unit selection. I know they are working around the cap but I would rather have more options for my composition than fewer.

One of the more impressive changes I've found is just the addition of varied pilot voices, simple as it may be, I actually feel like an Imperial Captain with squadrons of expertly trained TIE pilots at my command, ready to rid the galaxy of separatist holdouts and rebellious scum!

That bug with the battle cam stuff that is seemingly controllable is actually pretty common, I forget how I kept accidentally proccing it, but I did it at least a dozen times now.

It's obvious that you wanted to hide something during your actions in the task manager. However, when the Window fades away at 2:56 the blurred area becomes visible. If you want to hide the Informations, for whatever reason, you might want to edit that part

Any chance you're gonna cover Universe at War: Earth Assault it's an RTS in same engine as empire at war and made by the same developer Petroglyph Games really interesting you should definitely check it out

I remember seeing republic at war like 7 years ago and thinking "I want that" but knowing nothing about how to mod. I came back last year and was blown away by just how much the modding community has continued to grow

Kinda late to the party but another thing you can do to help with the sluggishness of busy skirmishes is turn off hardware mouse acceleration in video settings. Made a world of difference on my playthroughs.

The increased difficulty is a nightmare for casual players.

I remember I bought an Alienware to run this game back in the day. Think it's GPU was in the 900s but it was great at the time. Now my RTX rig makes EaW cry. LOL

I was wondering if you've played the Ground Control games, I'm not sure how well they've aged but they were a favourite of mine back in the day.

I liked the mod, I just don't like how everything seems to cost so much now, like you have to pay for garrisons, and pay to use orbital cannons, and pay to use bombardments. It just irritated me

This was one of the few games ive actually "modded" the mod files myself after installing the original extension pack from z3r0x back in 2012, but the files were a mess so i spent ages moving data from file to another file and creating new ones to group everything up into neat tidy factions rather then the original file which contained every new added unit. my biggest change was to make all garrison fighters user deployable because it was a pain in rear to lose every tie fighter to 1st marauder missile barrage. That an create a dozen new worlds to add to the map, i really must try the newer mod, but it will be a pain to reconfigure everything to the way i had them before.

The game truly is a masterpiece of the 00s and it just keeps better!

Another performance tip which worked a lot for me!! -> disable accelerated mouse in the options. Huge performance boost for me. For whatever reason.

You forgot to turn on widescreen support

I have seen that bug before. It's very funny and I'm glad someone figured out at least a little bit of why it happens.

ehm, the "melt" effect is actually kinda intended, like there used to be this effect to show the warping from gravity of very high temperatures, you should still be able to see it in the older version when you activate a interditor and rotate the camera to look either at the very top or the very bottom of the screen. iirc it has been toned down for the 4.0 grand update in some areas like the Maw map but is indeed still present as far as i know

Performance wise it also helps to untick use hardware mouse in the settings

Tip for people with lack of FPS, go to options and look of option "hardware mouse" is uncheck. If it on, turn it off.

I honestly wish someone would remake this game with stable multiplayer, modern graphics and an expanded roster. Basically like the mods but a brand new game do I can play it with friends without it regularly desyncing

8:57 Yeah. This bugs basically been around since people have been modding the game. For that matter, it wouldn't surprise me if there was a way to get it without mods and it's been there since launch. Regardless, mods do make it show up a lot. Just seeing that bug makes me nostalgic for when I used to play a lot of the Thrawn's Revenge mod.

I recently got back onto this game cause my good pc died and this is one of the only games my old pc im using as a backup can actually run. Cool to see its getting a fan remake, but seeing as any game made in the last decade is just too much for my current pc, ill probably be sticking with the original.

The mod selection thing where you get thrown into the ai battle has happened to me a lot. I think it’s triggered by double clicking the mod and not the select button.

I wish they added in battle were your units would just fight by themselves freely

I’m so happy this game has been supported so much past its release. That said I cannot pull myself away from Thrawns Revenge as it’s far overtaken every other mod (for me personally). Just in terms of content it’s latest release has given a unique feel to each faction in the game, all 9 of them. Most of them also have some form of government mechanic as well, plus I just feel like it has the best overall balancing of the larger EaW mods in terms of units and economy etc. oh and of course the era progressive GC’s where you get to play through from after Endor to right before the Vong War. Super just gushing over my favorite mod but seriously the new update really just solidified it as the best mod for EAW imo (Awakening is also amazing just not my style). Check out TR and give it a play definitely feels like it could warrant its own video (especially if remake did no offense to them they do solid work) My best compliment to the new update that just came out for it, it almost got me to start doing ground battles in GC

Personally, I think what should really be done is that the "Empire at War: Remake" mod should simply be fully developed into it's own game. Much like how the game "DayZ" on Steam merely began as a mod for the game: ArmA 3, itself.

Frankly, at this point, someone needs to actually remake or port the game to a whole new engine capable of handling the larger mods and action without collapsing in on itself.

For a new player, would you recommend to play it without any mods? Or should i go straight into the remake mod or add some other mods?

Me and my friend love to play space skirmishes, but the games tend to lag out halfway through a match. If we could get a consistent match every game (like Halo Wars) I would not leave my PC

Honest to good think the Ground combat is better than Space. Especially in Mods like Awakening of the Rebellion.

For the moment, the Thrawn Mod is still my favorite, and Absolute Chaos will always have a special place in my heart for the shear number of units (until it would inevitably bug out in a game breaking way). Still, this looks interesting, but all the more it shows how this game needs a "2". This is the only game that really captured the scope of Star Wars in this way. A lot of the other IP games have been good, but feel so limited compared to this game. There is nothing like warping in a scout, then dumping Star Destroyers on the enemy doorstep (or if modded, a Super Star Destroyer of your preferred flavor). Ironically, while space battles tend to be more fun, it's the ground battles that I have found to turn the game more often than not. Gameplay and UI issues aside, Space Battles, depending on the Mod, tend to favor s/he who brought more ships. Ground battles though, especially if you have a base shield or (again depending on Mod) other ways to counter bomber runs and orbital bombardment), are where the power of being on the defensive can shine. To be fair, the limit of 10 units to the aggressor helps a lot, and this may be something to address, but there is little I find more satisfyingly then managing to repel a major ground assault (I'll call out the Thrawn mod one last time as the ability for offensive and defensive forces to create buildings that produce unlimited troops is annoying, but the fact shields can't be upgraded to block missiles can make some ground battles a lot more challenging).
