I just found out today. You certainly remember how difficult it was to get the end right when you tried to restore the poor sound I supplied via my recording I supplied through Film-Tech so many years ago? Moreover some people argued that the end of the mix merged into the Broadway trailer mix, which I knew was wrong. Now that you heard the original in better quality, do you think you could restore completely the trailer based on my old recording ? Your best version so far was 2.1.5. Wow, it's actually very different from the reconstruction too! The loud WOOSH sounds more "magical" than "explosive", for lack of a better description, and the quasi-Deep Note at the end is completely different from the one in the current trailer despite the reconstruction version just kind of sampling what was in the modern mix. Does this mean TAT Enterprises will finally resurface too? ...Please? SOMEONE!?
I always thought that the silent ending of most of the reconstructed versions was lacking something. Glad to finally have that answered -- the "twinkle" sounds, once thought to have been added when it was re-recorded, originated with this version.
Excluding the Cimarron trailer this video on it's own is very interesting. Even more so with the original Cimarron, but I like studying this kind of stuff, especially British cinema-going experiences during the 80s and 70s.
and this was for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (visible on the censor board certificate at the end) at the Empire Leicester Square. It was in 70mm. The best sound I ever heard in a cinema. This is where I saw it in 1989 and was given a tour of the booth with the projectionist Ilker Sherif.
@@liofo1413 same . i met ilker and showed me more than tour , feb 14th 1992 , 4 hrs chatting in coffee room between showing first day , star trek 6 , 70mm . nice chap , and even gave me a few THX leaflets , still have . its possible maybe likely , with pinch of salt i own one of the first few THX sound systems crossover monitors 3417 , i can only think of few uk cinemas having the ones with early THX logo on the front . these were introduced 1987 . first THX was dbx 900 1983 . i own three THX sound systems . ilker i chatted about projection and my time year so with CIC/UCI cinemas tower park 1989/90 . nice Empire cup of coffee . that coffee room concrete floor vibrated with star trek 6 , 70mm THX . saw last crusade , twice , september 1989 , after seeing 70mm local cannon cinema bournemouth . the bell theatre services , JBL THX at Empire was night and day . so that is what i been missing on the soundtrack in regards to the low end .

Oh my god! this is it! This is the official lost audio we all wanted!! It was recorded through a micro-cassette, after it was recalled to damage speakers, but now we got it in better audio quality!!
LOL You guys are getting all worked up over this? The entire point of a sound logo trailer is for the sound QUALITY. That is why we haven't bothered posting any of the good sound logos until a few weeks ago when we were finally able to get the 35mm digital audio capture setup with 5.1 playback on youtube resolved. With all of the room reverberation and the camera microphone's inability to capture the low end on this video though, you're not even hearing half of this audio, yet everyone is still jizzing up a storm. Incredible! Thank you magicfly2001 for posting this though. We have been working for literally over a year working to get things setup from flood damage, and setting up a direct archival-grade 5.1 audio capture from 70mm magnetic SR was going to be one of the top 3 most time-consuming projects we had on our "to do" list...and yet all that effort was just going to be for this one trailer when we had the time. So good news, now everyone can stop being impatient and pestering us to capture it and obsess over this one instead! :)
dude, why are you acting like that? people are excited over this because it's the first proper source we've seen in years. at the moment it's less about getting the best possible audio quality and more about just seeing the trailer at all, which we now have thanks to this video
@@loganstuff9 Please read slowly and carefully so you don't misinterpret again. You are totally missing the entire point of QUALITY, so I will attempt to explain why the quality is so important one final time and why this video is not a "proper source", despite your claim that it is. The quality here is no better than the microcassette recording that has been around for years. That recording ALSO suffered from the same issue of room acoustics altering the way the higher frequencies sound, as well as the inability to capture the lower frequencies of the audio mix. This is entirely due to the tiny camera/microcassette microphone inside an auditorium trying to record "off the speakers". Even the uploader acknowledged and apologized in the description "sorry about the poor quality". What I am trying to educate you on is the fact that that you are simply NOT hearing the actual mix. Half of it is missing. This is a fact, not an opinion, and its not some sort of attack either. Just please take it at face value as the fact that it is. What is humorous is that somewhere on youtube awhile back I heard a microcassette-based "re-creation" that actually sounded closer to the real mix than this does. Please don't misinterpret what is being said here. We are THRILLED that this is here because the constant barrage from people who refused to listen after explaining dozens upon dozens of times was pushing us towards abandoning the entire plan of PROPERLY capturing it. We told everyone over and over that it would come in time to be patient, that there were technical barricades to do it properly, and that it was going to take time. There WERE a few people who were respectful and understood or at least had an idea of what all the process entailed, but for the most part people these days don't have any patience. Everyone just wants it now, now, now and trivializes the entire process as if it's as easy as putting a CD in a player. Then suddenly this appears and everyone thinks it has been "found". To that ridiculous notion we say GREAT!!! Now everyone can watch this instead and pretend that they are actually hearing the original mix! It is truly incredible that this video has finally satisfied everyone's need for this specific THX logo variation though. That makes this a win-win for everyone. Again, thank you to magicfly2001 whoever you are.

My question is, Was the trailer originally meant to be completely blue and black only with a soild black background instead of the giant red space-like area, Or was the camera just unable to capture red pixels?
It isn't completely lost but was recalled by select THX Certified Cinemas because it destroyed their speakers that did not have advanced equipment at the time of the original version's run. A couple of former theater projectionists like "FT Depot" have the original version of the Cimarron trailer in their collection. The 70mm version of the trailer has 6 audio tracks and "FT Depot" is one of those former projectionists that has it. Please don't pester that user to upload it so quickly.
@@OfficialOacus this was for most theaters, ones that did not have advanced equipment at the time. Empire Leicester Square and a few other theaters (primarily in California and Texas) had some advanced equipment that prevented speaker breaks at the time of this trailer’s debut (1988).
