well i downloaded the game yesterday, i was with george washington at the beginning and i had to attack a well fort defended by the french , i had 4 artillery units and like 14 rush units i failed because all the enemy army hided inside the fort i mean it was like 300 spartan vs 1000 persians. from the 14 units i had only 2 survived. then i got reinforcements and luckily the second time they sunrrenderd ( sorry for my english) . now i have like 7 artillery units and 10 "elite" troops .
Me and my friend have totally figured a way to take a fort with minimum: 3 cannon, five line and a general. for very, very little loss. usually about 5/1 odds. its doable and you dont have to lose much. works for pretty much any fortified city, and works better when the fort is bigger. lol this is on hard hard. keen for a vid of it?
What motherboard, PCU and GPU do you have? Im running a single core P4 3.0 Ghz PCU, 8500 GeForce overclocked GPU, and I can run Empire on high, but not with the size of units you have and not with the frame rate... thanks!
Whenever I have a mortar or rocket, I use it to press the 'trapped' enemy within his own fort. I also spread some light cavalry around the fort just in case the enemy artillery comes out and tries to massacre my undefended army. I blow up the wall using a single cannon to preserve ammo and then attack from all the sides. I also put my infantry on the walls firing inside from behind, to give the max effect of pressure. While defending, I use the mounted cannons combined with infantry fire.
@bud389 dont know what version you play but ive never seen defenders on the wall run away :/ i only ever manually fight siege battles if im defending because i can lose hardly any men compared to the comp wearas its the other way round attacking :)
given the forts position, the safe area the guns would have to be placed in to keep them safe would've been an inneffective angle, so 1 in 10 shots would hit. even if you did get the artillery in the perfect position, artillery is used for making holes in the walls, for troops to move through, they an't route an entire defensive force, you need to use infantry, or even better, cavalry to storm the gap.
@Preacherjonson Well, i believe sometimes they flee to the center and they instantly gain back all their morale, but if you hold the middle, they will flee when their numbers get down to around 20 - 40 men.
@Preacherjonson Well, actually, they do run away, unfortunately i believe they get some sort of morale buff though. I find siege battles relatively easy and fun most of the time, alls you do is focus a large part of your forces on one side and blast them with cannonballs from the front, while you have a select few elite units come from their flank wall, they'll be forced to focus on the larger army because bigger threat so elites can get up and rape them easily.
In my campaign i am now starting to deploy 4 motar batteries per army... and the result is bast the enemy apart while they march toward u... on the case of a seige battle hammer them so hard that they have to march out and then box in the enemy troops and have them blown apart by musket and cannon then chase down the survivors with cal. and i don't care what ya say its effective as hell!
I don't think so. Organ guns are like 6-8 musket-like (maybe more firepower) guns all attached to one fuse and pair of wheels. They had them in Age of Empires 3, but they were a special gun for only one nation. I feel like they wouldn't be very useful in this game, but they'd still be nice to see.
@TalonMercenary Not true, i've seen them several times change tactics after discovering where a hidden unit was, or sending a single unit to try and flank and then get surprised by a few hiding units.
@Preacherjonson Im not sure about very hard, because it gives AI bonuses, but i've seen units route and have had my own units route on me during sieges, attacking and defending.
I go for cannons cover corner of fort, blow hole in wall, just one, line melee troops across the breach and grenade the guys that attack the melee troops, killed 600 for 100 lost.
The tactic I use and has never put me down is to simply bomb the shit out of them with 6/8 mortar units. Then they will exit the fort and attack you. At this point you use your 24 pound artillery (3/4) units and let them have it (first round shot, then carcass shot) with infantry in a V shape so even before they hit you artillery they most likely are routing.
I mortar the fort then wait for the enemy to get tired of the shelling and come out after me. Then I just feed them lead until all the defenders are dead. This of course only works against the AI.
yo i just but the game 2day but every time i load the damm game it always says error report Empire.exe some1 plz help me i rell want to play this badass game
I like to pummel a hole in the wall with cannons then draw the enemy out with cavalry into my infantry set out side the hole creating a bottle neck for the enemy instead of for me
@bud389 ive just defended gibraltar from another spanish invasion and a unit of civilians held the walls until all of them had fallen, trust me they dont run xD
Siege battles are rather awful in ETW, although you can beat them, you have to sacrifice like 1/2 ur army to do so. Back in mtw2 n rome, it was so simple....
@Preacherjonson That's completel BS, yea, they might get in more kills because of the slow climbing, and lack of more numbers at once, but grenadiers can take out militia, unless you mass 3-4 units on that side to swarm them, in which case they would've lost even if they weren't on the walls.
Can somone give me the odds for winning the lottery Ill have to wait a year for my bros computer to be finished so i want to build my own or buy one that will play this game.Fucken laptop is a piece of shit.
