Yes!, the horrible lie of hearing in the 90s , " sticks & stones may break my nones but words may never hurt me " . Definitely encouraged invalidation. 😑

I am sure that there are hundreds of other words / phrases that we could replace for the sake of a more empowering language. One of them that comes to my mind is: "right?". E.g.: "Well, the rule says that you should only cross when the light becomes green, right?", or "We both can see it, that bottle is half full, right?". Surely intonation and body language play a big role in that "right". Sometimes what we are saying with that is "I am right!", "Don't argue. If you do I'll drop a five minutes Wikipedia speech over you, mwahaha". So I would suggest replacing "right?" by nothing. Like removing "just". Don't ask "right?" unless you are really expecting to get an opinion back, and if you do, then try to replace "right" by "I see that bottle half full, AND I am very interested to know how you see it". Way more respectful. THIS constant "right?" coming from one of my team members used to make me struggle a lot, before my burn-out. But then there is you Michael, helping us so much to improve relationships, ourselves and eventually the world around. Come on guys, thumbs up!
