Emu Proteus/1 | (easy fix) How to fix power issue with blinking display and unit turning on and off

This is the first video on this channel! Bring us the champagne...!!!
So I got a Emu Proteus/1 for free when I bought a Roland D20 but it doesn´t work. The display flashes as if the module is turning on and off all the time. I found an easy fix for this one. Perhaps it will help you in some way?
This film was made in february 2021 and it still works flawless. Feel free to comment and subsribe to the channel. I´ve got more videos planned.
I do not claim to be an expert, just curious and loving music, old synthesizers
and filmmaking.

nice to meet you martin! i used to have one of those, kind of hated it, did not live up to my expecations of legendary EMU sounds, but no denying their popularity at the time!

I kind of love it :) I use it extensively in my songs but then again I mainly head towards 80s synth pop.

Thanks! I'm having this issue right now. Would you be able to explain why this fixed it? I'd have assumed the trim pod would be set correctly from the factory. Why would it suddenly be at the wrong setting? What went wrong in the power supply to require this adjustment?

Sorry but I can’t explain it. Probably the capacitors getting older. I did this “fix” som years ago by now and it still works.

If you ever decide you want to replace those caps, just come over! They do LOOK fine to me tho, but any excuse to stick a soldering iron in an old synth! :-)

Great video, thanks. I see your P1 has the expansion daughterboard. Where can I get one, how much is it, and where exactly does it connect onto the mainboard (CN2 or CN3 maybe)?

It was already installed when I got my P1 and sound great :) Perhaps I’ll do a video demoing the sound of it. :)
