The E-mu Proteus family of synthesizers was developed and sold from 1989 for over a decade. They were hugely successful and used extensively in films, television productions and computer games. The basis of this success was a low price point, for the time, and the fact that many, if not all, of the waveforms came from the revered and extremely expensive E-mu Emulator III.
These units are still valid in current studio setups and these synthesizers provide their own unique sound that sits well. They have extensive editing capability and, despite the limited screen, are intuitive in their use with not too much menu diving.
This video focuses on the Proteus/2 and, specifically, the power supply, which is a common fail point in these units. The Power Supply can be easily replaced with a cheap, readily available and reliable alternative.
And, of course, the factory demo tune !
